My son received this as a gift. Like to other reviews we had issues. The lock fell off and my children ended up using it as a dog house, a $40- dog house! I e-mailed the company and they were horrified that this happened and within 2 weeks my children had a new mailbox to play with (and they have been playing non-stop with it). The new mailbox is different. The doors are different. The lock is held on with screws instead of glue and the other door has 3 circles of velcro and a small hole to put one finger inside to open the door. There is no more magnet. They have made great changes in this product so I give the old version of the mailbox 2 stars, the company 5 stars and the new mailbox style 5 stars!

.. it's toast. Both doors have broken off and can no longer even be fixed anymore. The mail is horribly dinged up, just from banging against each other in the mailbox. The stamps don't tend to stay on well after a couple months of intermitten use and sadly it's now sitting in our closet since the door splintered when coming off and can't be glued again.

THis was a terrific idea. THe kids loved it. The door held my magnets would open when they dropped the mail in, this frustrated the kids. The piece that held the lock in place came off (the glue didn't hold). We repaired it with s screw. It was an easy fix but you shouldn't have to fix a new toy.

The overall "idea" of this toy is great. It's both educational and fun, especially for the child who enjoys imaginative play. I was upset, however, that the toy had a significant size chip in it when my daughter received it. So, it's a great toy, but definitely not the most durable.

This is a wonderful, educational toy. Once again, Melissa and Doug has produced a well-made toy to last for years to come. The mailbox, letters and stamps are made of wood for durability. The stamps stay attached to the "mail" with velcro and are interchangable. There are three different size slots for the mail, so children have to figure out which "letter" fits into the right slot. It could be a little tricky for the little ones, but with the two big swing doors on either side, your child will continue to play with it instead of giving up out of frustration. It also comes with a key to lock one of the two doors. My three year-old loves playing "mailman" with this toy and I highly recommend it. The bonus is that the toy comes pre-assembled so you can start to play right away!

I purchased this for my daughter's 3rd birthday. I think that the idea of this toy is great, very educational, however, this toy is not very well made. The little door that opens with the key, fell off the first day, the little piece that holds the dowel that the door is attached to is very thin. If it was better constructed it would be a great toy!!!

My son absolutely loved this mailbox, but not two hours after he started playing with it the locking front door broke off. The door is held on by a very small dowel, but it wasn't the easily replaceable dowel that broke. It was the mailbox itself that broke--the wood where the dowel sits is very thin. He's three, and is relatively gentle with his toys. There were a few other problems with the toy too. For instance, there are three slots on the top for the different size envelopes that come with the mailbox. Unfortunately, if you use all the slots the mail will pile up in a zig-zag fashion. This means you can only get a two or three pieces of mail into the mailbox at one time unless you're really lucky, as the case may be. In addition, the rear door of the mailbox isn't secured. Any envelopes put in the slot over this door tend to knock the door open when they're dropped in. We've had a lot of Melissa & Doug toys and he's loved most of them. The idea here was fantastic, but it just needs to be re-designed. Until they do I can't recommend it for anyone.

This mailbox is not as nicely constructed as most of the Melissa and DOug Toys are. The first day we had this toy, the door broke off. This was with pretty gentle play. The door is just held on with a wooden dowel and it broke very easily. We were really disapointed in the qulaity of this toy. The idea is interesting but, the execution poor.
