Pros: flexibly sized arm cuff, short use-to-reading time, doesn't overpump the cuff, large number read-out, easy memory function, comes with a case, can be hooked up to a DC 6V 600mA AC charger
Cons: no "off" switch, no charger included
I'm impressed at how easy it is to use this unit. The monitor comes in a soft, thin black leather case (6" x 4" x 4") and runs on 4 AA batteries. I was disappointed that there is no wall charger included, but there is a port for a DC 6V charger to be hooked up to the little unit. I have left mine completely on batteries and used it every day 1-2x for 50 days now, and the batteries are still fine. There is a low-battery signal that will blink on the unit if the batteries are low, and my low-battery still has not turned on. So, it's not an energy-sucking machine that adds tons of batteries costs, but you could purchase a DC 6V charger to save the batteries completely. There is also no "off" button, so at times the unit starts up on its own in the case if you bump it or set it down wrong. No big deal -- it just immediately shuts off, but it is annoying.
It takes about 30 seconds to measure my BP from the time I take the unit out of the case and hook it up, press start, and get a reading (very large number output with simple [one-touch] memory and recall functions). It produces a low buzzing noise as it pumps up the arm cuff, but this isn't even loud enough to startle my cats. Also, the arm cuff fits small to large arms. I had a 9.1" arm when I started using the unit, so I was concerned about the cuff being too large. But, the arm band fit fine (can probably fit a bit smaller than 9" arms). Nonetheless, it can also fit much larger arms (package states up to 16"+ and it realistically looks like the band could do just that). |

Before you buy one of these monitors, which are well made and easy to use, check with your doctor. Mine GAVE me one of these monitors that she had received from the "Benicar" drug rep.
If you can't get one free, they are still worth the price Amazon is selling them for. |

| I didn't feel any pain. I was a little short of breath and was exercising to get past it when I got this monitor. I learned that my resting heart rate was over 130 and my heartbeat irregular. As advised I sought the doctor who pushed me into a wheelchair and rolled to me directly to the hospital. The unit is a lifesaver. |

I found this product to be inferior to my previous one. I was quite surprised that it did not include a plug in re-charging feature. Battery life is much too short for such a product. I wanted to return it immediately and the on-line information said that this product was "unreturnable." I had to go out and buy another and "lost" all the money I'd send for this product.

The machine arrived in excellent condition and on time. I have used it 15 or 20 times and it has functioned well. I appreciate the larger cuff because it does not cause pain in my arm while inflated. It has been evaluated by a Physician's Assistant who specializes in blood pressure testing and she gave it an excellent rating as to accuracy. |

| I have been very satisfied with the monitor. It is easy to use and seems to be quite accurate. I was disappointed to find when I opened the box that there were no instructions included. A quick phone call had them on the way. I was able to use it without the instructions but could not set the time, etc. All-in-all it is a quite satisfactory device. |

"Has One Serious Flaw" | 2007-02-24 |

The flaw is that although it advertises irregular heartbeat detection, and it does do that, **it does NOT record it into memory**. If one needs to manually write down which events have irregular heartbeats then what is the use of the memory function?
Irregular heartbeats are a health concern for me and the main reason I chose this monitor over others, such as Omron. When I discovered that it doesn't keep a record in memory of irregular heartbeats I almost sent it back. I can't conceive of a reason that something detected and displayed can not be stored into memory along with the other information like time, date, BP and Pulse rate. What were they thinking?
I was also disappointed that it did not come with the owner's manual or quick start quide. I was also going to return it for that issue, except that I found them online and copied the PDF file. Very sloppy packaging!
Another minor aggravation is that the clock cannot be reset without having to remove the batteries. That triggers the clock reset functions, and is the only way it can be triggered. That should be corrected.
Copying down the information stored in memory is also a bit of a pain, as each record is only displayed for a short time, and if one is not finished copying the record, say # 22 in bank 1, then you must press the memory key another 22 times to get it back onscreen. If you overshoot, you have to start all over again. There should be an easier way.
Otherwise I found the instrument to be accurate and useful. |

"Maybe mine was just a lemon..." | 2007-02-14 |

| Both my wife and I have high blood pressure, which our doctor would like us to track at home. After checking out many brands and styles of automatic monitors, and based on the reviews here, I didn't hesitate to buy the Mark of Fitness, Inc monitor (Prevention edition). When I received it, there were two problems: First, there was no owner's manual inside. Since I kept getting an "err 2" message, I had no way of checking what that meant. (Amazon.com suggested I look online for a pdf version somewhere. Unfortunately, the Mark of Fitness' web site didn't have online manuals.) The second and more important problem with this product was that it was clearly very inaccurate. When I finally was able to get some readings, they were: 112/64, 106/60, 96/61, 106/62, 109/64, and 115/62. Oh, how I wish some of those WERE my readings! Maybe it was just my misfortune to get that one in 500 lemons with no owner's manual and who knows what else wrong with it, but unfortunately, I won't take a chance on trying another one. It's going back today. |

| The Prevention Bood Pressure Monitor was highly recommended and I have found that is correct. It is easy to use and very accurate, more so than wrist models. I took it to my doctor's office and it's reading compared favorably with the reading the doctor received with his manual method. The memory feature is very helpful in comparing present reading to previous ones. It is very easy to operate and the results are easy to read. I highly recommend it! |
