This is the defining season of The Office. After a slow start in season 1, the crew and writers did an amazing job with the character development and the set up of future relationships among the crew. If you were disappointed by season1, fear not, this season redeems the show.
For me Seasons 2 and 3 of "The Office" are the pinnacle of the series. They come after the sparse initial season based more obviously upon the British series, and before the seasons more concerned with big plot arcs than the smaller scale, zany character situations that give the show its flavor. Season 2 has a sense of freshness that makes its character situations appealing. It presents times when the Dwight-and-Jim angle wasn't yet a much-repeated theme, when Michael's antics seemed less familiar and therefore more outrageous, and when Jim and Pam's romantic tension hadn't yet begun to wear out its welcome. To be fair there is some good stuff in the later seasons too. But if one were to distill the show into a single group of episodes, one might pick Season 2 as the representative collection. For the heart and soul of "The Office", start here.
My family and I just finished watching the last episode of Season 2 last night and are hoping the USPS delivers Season 3 today so we don't have to wait!
While we all enjoyed Season 1, everything really comes together in this second season. Everyone (regardless of how small or large the part) has really honed in on what their character is about and, in particular, the character of Michael Scott (played by Steve Carrell) has developed well. It is to the point that I see him as a whole person rather than just an obnoxious boss. Dwight continues to be Dwight and is absolutely hilarious. Jim and Pam keep you guessing and they couldn't have found better actors to play those two characters.
This is definitely a comedy that appeals more to the intellect versus relying on slapstick or crude humor at every opportunity.
Great jokes, great casting, wonderful series!
"I sprout mung beans on a damp paper towel in my desk... very nutritious but they smell like death"
Sorry people. The first season is just not that great. They tried to copy the british Office too much and the jokes didn't translate well. The second season more than makes up for it. Steve Carrel plays Michael Scott like an effiminate ,needy 9 year with ADD on a constant sugar high. Creed's bizarre one - liners and Kelly's ditziness really adds to the cast of characters.Adding Jan,michael's boss from corporate , as his love interest, was very wise. I love Jan, she is very good at her job and always seems to know what to do in her corporate life, but she seems to not have any friends other than Michael. They are both lonely, needy people.I think she sees Michael is kind of the kid she never got to have.
Favorite episode is Halloween When dwight spends a huge portion of his paycheck on a star wars costume and no one knows who he is.
Also like the one where Dwight is dressed up in a deputy sherrif's uniform and is interrogating kevin about the joint in the parking lot.
The commentary's and fake Public awareness spoofs is hilarious, especially the one about the Jelly beans.
