I've been using the Scala 500 for YEARS! Here's why: After my first one broke, I decided to try several others. I bought a Motorola low-end one, and a Jabra high-end one, and a new Scala 500. I then paired each with my phone. I first paired the Scala - then I called home and left a message while parked at the side of the road. I then paired each of the others and did the same thing. Then I went driving with the air conditioner on, re-pairing the three and leaving new messages, identifying each at the start of my messages. In each case, the Scala 500 easily - not even close - sounded the clearest and most natural. In the case of the "parked" message, if I didn't know the message was left from a headset, I would have thought it was a land line, it was that clear. My call recipients often express surprise that we're talking from my headset, as they would not know unless I told them.
Needless to say, I returned the other two (far more expensive - the Motorola was $89 and the Jabra was $119) sets and kept the Scala 500 - the $27.99 price I got on that one was the best bargain EVER. So don't spend tons of money on other, perhaps sleeker or more stylish models if what you really want is to be able to clearly hear your party, and allow them to clearly hear you. The Scala 500 beat all competitors - no hands! |

I looked at all the bluetooth devices before making this purchase. My wife and I have different needs, so I had to take a lot into consideration. I use mine a lot and my wife uses hers just when she's driving. Also, I have big ears and my wife has little ears. My wife wears glasses and I have hearing damage so I had to consider those factors too. I wasn't too concerned about price because most of the devices are around $50.
After considering all the factors I went with a Plantronics 510 for myself and the Scala 500 for my wife. Both were excellent choices. The Scala 500 is light and small and has a neat little gadget for hooking it to your glasses. It's easy to install and use. The PLT 510 is completely different. It's bulk sits around your ear, so the weight goes around your ear instead of out to the side so it is comfortable to wear for long periods of time and does not have that floppy feel. The Scala has more of a floppy feel to it because the weight is beside your ear, but my wife doesn't mind that since she only wears it when driving. When the glasses-attachment is used it doesn't flop around at all; it holds firmly to the glasses. But like I said, I have big ears so that is probably why it flops around when I wear it. That little ear-loop is made for a small ear I guess. The shape of the PLT is better for me.
The PLT 510 has an ear bud that goes in your ear which is great for me since I am half deaf and needed something that was plenty loud. The volume goes way up on the thing so I can hear just fine even when I'm driving. The Scala 500 sits outside your ear and doesn't quite get as loud as the PLT. I'm sure it is loud enough for people who don't have hearing damage. My wife can hear just fine with it.
Battery life and charging time is about the same with both. I can talk for hours before it starts to run down, and charging time is less than an hour.
I'm glad I did the research before making the purchase. I got the right bluetooth for each of us. I recommend both, but do the research and make sure you know what you need first. |

| I purchased the Scala 500 Bluetooth Headset after looking at other recommendations. I've never owned one before so I'm not familiar with other designs. This headset does really well in windy situations and is very easy to use. It stays active for a long time, is easy to setup, smallish, and functional. Not too many features to confuse a novice and not too little to be ineffectual. I would definitely recommend this product. |

| I got this headset to replace a Plantronics Explorer 330 Easy-To-Use Bluetooth® Headset for all Bluetooth Enabled Phones that I washed(which was fantastic btw). Over all the functioning is fine. The wind control does not really work but the sound is generally clear and the battery life is good. However, the earpiece is very uncomfortable it is loose and feels like it is going to fall off. Its ok for short-term use but not something you can really wear for any length of time for example when you are not actually on the phone. I am currently looking into other options because I do not use this headset. It is more convenient to not use a headset at all than to use this one. |

I got this headset about 6 months ago. It worked fairly well for the first four months, although the volume control was somewhat erratic -- nothing that I couldn't live with. However, in the past two months the bluetooth connection drops out unpredictably even though the phone is no more than three feet away at all times. I know that it's not the phone (LG enV) since the connection between it and my Motorola stereo headset never drops.
Aside from that (which is a deal breaker in my book: if I had known that this would happen, I never would have bought this headset), the earpiece is fairly flimsy. I haven't broken it, but I've come close several times. I also noticed that the price on this headset has gone way up since I bought it at $29.99. Why? -- I couldn't tell you. But it's not worth it -- for $43, you can do a whole lot better. |

Had this unit for a few weeks now - previously had 2 Motorola units. It connects readily with my "Q" (much better than the Motorolas did). Construction is a little cheap & cheerful but it is lightweight and sits comfortably on the ear. Lanyard & hoslter great ideas if you are inclined to lose/misplace things (fate of my last motorola bluetooth). Wind guard technology seems to work also.
Negatives - call button stands out and is easily pressed accidentally. Max volume just about OK would appreciate more range. Callers say sounds a little hollow/tinny in use. The 'silicon cap' referred to instructions is not supplied you have to ask them for this (they sent me one on request).
Overall rating good for the price and value for money. |

I still haven't found what I'm looking for. Specifically, I am looking for a bluetooth headset that works well. This is my third headset. Out of the box it looked great. Fits well on the ears. Easy to use. Great price. Holds long charge. Then the complaints started. While I can hear fine, the people on the other end of the conversation cannot. I might just use this solely for online PS3 gaming, IF they can hear me as well. The other two BT headsets I have used are the Motorola 500 and 850. The 500 is a cheap but efficient headset. It works fine, but the sound quality is not in the same ballpark as the 850. My 850 was great, but I have problems connecting the charger. So, I am still looking for the right BT. Any suggestions? |
