I have been having the sidekick since the orginal B&W, then got the CSK, then SK2, the finally the SK3, I am only writting my review now, but I have had the sidekick 3 since June 30th. I needed my time to think about a good review, I also just recently got a job at the t-mobile corporate. As a GSM Tech. Now being a tech the SK3 isn't the greatest phone, they actually supplied me with a phone with 2 way on it. But when I get out of work the sidekick works perfectly. Like I said I had it since the OSK, and that thing did what I wanted but just didn't cut it, then I got the CSK and that thing with color was exactly the same, then sidekick 2 came out and that was great it had everything besides bluetooth for what I used it for. and Now SK3, I just love it.
OS: Still the same old classic thing. Easy to use.
MP3 Player: The thing isn't an iPod type thing, but if your into just music then it works, I don't really use thing feature but I still like it. They should make dedicated buttons on the outside for the hardcore music fans, maybe be able to re-program the outside buttons.
1.3 MP camera: The camera is not the greatest but it is a HUGE step from the SK2, I have used it during the day, and during the night and during the day it isn't bad, it takes pictures well in Daylight, but during the night time or in low light you have to change the thing to night-mode which makes the pictures a little distorted. But its all good I guess.
Ringtones: They don't have the "Danger Girl" or "Circuit Breaker" I think its just t-MO and danger trying to make money, but think about it, if you owned Danger or tMO you would like a way to make extra money, plus I don't mind spending a few bucks for the ones that I really liked on the OSK CSK SK2.
SPEAKER: SAME OLD THING, people quit complaining.
Web browsing: The web browsing was obviously faster than the other models. I liked it because sites with scripts in the earlier versions were not allowed. I just wish tMo would step it up and get out some 3G areas, and would like them to create a UMTS capable SK.
Signal: I am impressed with the ammount of time that they put into this and didn't get much out of it. I am happy with it though in my area. I just wish they would kick it up a notch, I have three phones, and my other phones get about 5 bars in my house, and my SK gets three. :( but no complaints.
Design: Sexier than Tila Nguyen, Kaila Yu, and Francine Dee put together. (well I guess not, but its close ;))
Battery Life: Just fine for me, I get up at 6 in the morning at work by 7 would a 8 1/2 hour day, drive home at night and may i mention I talk for about 3 hours of that 8 1/2 hour day on my sidekick VIA bluetooth, and when I get home I don't charge it til I get to sleep it has 58% so I guess thats not so bad. 10 stars there.
FuTURE: I probally should not disclose this information but I overheard some reps saying that the SK3 on August 11th will be sending OTA for Next Generation basically meaning that you will be able to download Java games to the SD card, and be able to take video clips the size of the SD card. Plus they are also improving the battery life and getting rid of that whole 320% battery life deal, and hopfully (this one is my wish) they will do some work on the RadioFIRM ware.
Thanks for your guys time!!

I am the biggest Sidekick fan. I owned the SDK2 right when they came out. It's not your corporate device, which is part of the reason why I like it, and neither is the new SDK3. HOWEVER, I was sorely dissapointed in the new SDK3 for the following reasons:
-The device just looks cheap now. The keyboard and reposition of the 'corner keys' are pretty much toy plastic material. -The bubble keys on the keyboard actually make it hard to see the letters and other characters. -The scroll ball is hard to get use to. -NONE of your previously purchased GAMES/APPS/RING TONES transfer over to your new sidekick. You would have to RE-PURCHASE THEM ALL if you want them. Trust me, this was very frustrating after I confirmed with T-Mobile support. -The catalog selection is about 20% of what was available for the Sidekick 2. I guess becuase of the OS update. So, even if you wanted to re-purchase your stuff again, it most likely is not available yet for the new platform. - The new removable battery did away with the AWESOME single speaker from the SDK2. Now, the only noise making speaker is located in the earpiece or left controller. The SDK3 is no where near as loud as the SDK2...this is very dissapointing because it's hard to hear my calls now. - The volume buttons, camera trigger button, etc...are somewhat sunken in and hard to press.
Ok, now some positives that are not necessaryly in the specs... - The device is thinner. Fits more comfortably in your hand. - The phone calls are alot clearer. - Web does seem faster. - MP3 player is definately cool! - Camera is ALOT better. - Upgradable mem stick is very nice. Works also as a thumb drive...I used it to transfer some docs from work to home...on my phone!
Coming from a Sidekick lover, if my SDK2 hadn't stopped working properly, I would have never bought the new SDK3 - that's the truth of the matter. SDK3 is now forcesibly growing on me.
Hope this review helps!!!! |
