I received this as a birthday gift recently. I absolutely love it. My favorite features are the ability to change voices and the speed limit warning. As you are driving, the unit displays your current speed and will begin to flash red showing your current speed vs. the posted speed limit. So in addition to giving directions, you can also avoid getting a speeding ticket. It is also light, easy, and fun to use. The only negative thing that I find about this unit, is that it doesn't operate very long on the battery power.

i bought this for my grandmother, who can't find her way to her next door neighbor's house. it works very well if you know the address; it's easy to use, it reroutes if you miss a turn, etc. my one (big) gripe with this unit is the terrible point of interest database. major stores (lowes, home depot, bealls dept store, etc) were not in the database--while i might expect some local restaurants, etc, to be missing, you'd think big boxes would at least be in there. it's possible to download some of them if you search for them individually on the tomtom database, but this is a real pain for me, never mind my 82 year old gm. it would be nice to d/l all of the poi's at once, but this doesn't seem possible. other than that it works very well though. i'm not sure if other brands have better databases. the object was for my grandmother to be able to plug in "walmart", and have it direct her there. while it wouldn't be a big deal for me to go to google maps and get an address, this is too big of an extra step for some people.

A good unit for the money. If you want basic navigation with a few bells and whistles, this unit will do the job. I haven't made a wrong turn yet.

I just purchased the TomTom One portable GPS system. I have a very good internal sense of direction and I can read a map just fine but in New Jersey traffic, who can be bothered with that? I hate getting lost on busy roads and I often take long road trips to other states. This is a great device because it will talk you through your route, when to turn, it shows the names of the roads, etc. Another feature I love for road trips is when you get tired and need to stop you can push a button and the TomTom will show landmarks of all the local hotels and gas stations along your route. It will also show you local attractions and places of interest if you choose. I use it all the time, even at home. The funny thing is that we just built our home last year and because the development is so new it does not pick up on the GPS so when I turn down my road it just shows me driving into a dirt field! LOL. Other than that it is my most favorite new electronic device.

My 1st experience with gps took me to the Twin Cities to look at a used Jeep. I looked at the road atlas before I left my house in central Wisconsin and got an overall sense of which roads to take when I got into the Cities. I fully intended on bringing my atlas, but I forgot it. Oh well, I borrowed my dad's Tom Tom One. I knew how to get to the Twin Cities without a map anyway, and the TomTom had the address programed into it. TomTom got to the Twin cities flawlessly! I could have done that myself though. The problem was that the interchange for interstate/bypasses was being re-constructed in the city limits. The actual turn was opposite of what TomTom had in its maps. Things change, thats fine, it would not have been a problem had TomTom said "exit left I-490 North" instead of "exit left 500 yards" . It got me kind of lost, had I not looked at a map before leaving I would have been completely lost!! I ended up going with what I partially remembered from the atlas. I have since tried other gps units (Magellan Crossover) and found it far superior because it tells you the proper name of the street you are turning onto. Oh and the Canada map on the Crossover is much more complete. The road to my dads cabin is on does not exist accorind to TomTom. It may be better than nothing... sometimes. My dad has about the same opinion of the TomTom, in fact we borrowed it 4 months ago and he has not asked for it back! I purchased a Garmin gpsmaps 60csx after reading reviews here on Amazon. I liked the Magellan Crossover too when I used it, it was a hard purchasing decision. TomTom=DumDum

I Bought this for my niece's graduation present. She is on her way this Fall to go to Law school and is not to familiar with Tenn. She was thrilled with it, and learned to use it quickly. She told me several of her friends want one now.

this gps is on point. for every turn or intersection. i was amazed when the gps found local points of interest such as diners, schools, gas stations and etc. you dont expect a gps for this price to be as accurate as the 500 dollar ones. my only complaint is i could use a bigger one.

I live down South so here in SC the roads don't change much and so the TomTom seems much more accurate to us hicks than you sissyfied city folk. Ok I'm only kidding but the TomTom seems very accurate to me. I only use it on long trips (100 or more miles) and if I have to go somewhere downtown and I'm not familiar where the place is. I've learned to pretty much trust the TomTom but it always seems to falter at the last couple of buildings. But, it does get you where you want to go. The TomTom loves the interstate so it always guides you there even if you know a shorter route from experience. I gave it four stars because it works well for what you pay. I've had mine about 6 months. Bear

I have found the Tom Tom very useful when traveling locally and across states. It seems very up to date with the roads and various routes. The only down side is that sometimes in very built up areas, i.e major cities there is a slight delay finding a GPS signal due to the buildings. But apart from that I have had no problems with this item and have found it to be a great help when traveling.

I cannot say enough about Tom Tom One 3rd Edition. It PAID for itself. Recently, I got off track in Boston. With all the continuous construction there, it got me back to my destination. Plus, it was great to get me to all my points of interests in Florida. Many points of interests are preloaded into the Tom Tom system, which was a BIG plus. I would not go anywhere without Tom Tom. (In fact, my best friend just bought one, and she is using it on her trip to Utah.) This is a DEFINITE buy!

For 6 months I poured over all of the gps units available out there...garmin, magellan, navigon, etc. and ultimately decided to go with the TomTom as it seemed to have both the good price and the high quality of product I was searching for. I'm a frequent traveler for work and for pleasure and I thought this device would be a handy tool for navigating and finding nearby restaurants, gas stations, grocery stores, etc. I just bought the TomTom about 2 weeks ago and was able to figure out how to use it straight out of the box. It has been a very easy to use and surprisingly has more features than I originally anticipated. One feature I've especially liked are the itinerary planning. If I am going to say my hotel and then to a restaurant and then to a bar I can set all of those 3 points as an itinerary and it will navigate me to each one in that order without having to enter in each destination as I need to go to them. I've used it in large cities and in rural areas with excellent results. Occasionally it will give you a roundabout way to get somewhere, but you'll certainly get there. Overall, for the price this unit simply cannot be beat.
