| I just want to preface this review by saying that I am a casual photographer. I just purchased a Nikon D40 and was looking for a lens for this camera. I like to read the bad customer reviews for any product I buy because I want to see what the downside of a product is. I was reading a lot of reviews that spoke of focus creep, and image bending / distortion, etc, so I almost didn't purchase this lens. I instead purchased the 55-200MM lens. The first time I used the 55-200MM lens I was taking pictures at a 50th anniversary party, and while the picture quality was great, I found myself switching lens to get close up pictures (pictures of subjects closer than 10 feet away). I missed a lot of photo opportunities because I had to switch lenses. That's when I decided to purchase this lens. br /br /Having used this lens for about a month now, I have to say that I love it! It takes amazing pictures and it is extremely versatile. Gone are the days of carry multiple lenses and switching them out. The only down side of this product is its weight. It is much heavier than the 55-200MM, but it is a small price to pay considering you don't have to carry multiple lenses and miss photo opportunities.br / |

| If you are like most of us that love photography, you're always looking for the "perfect lens". My camera bag was loaded with various lenses (five prior to this writing) so I would always be ready to capture some interesting shot. I outgrew two camera bags after starting with a very simple LowePro bag and got to the point that I didn't take my camera with me because it was cumbersome. Nikon 18mm-200mm VR lens to the rescue! I knew about this lens because my son had been using it since it first came out and I saw the MANY great photos he took...all with only this one lens. I finally realized that although a wee bit expensive, this one lens would free me of having to carry the big bulky bag, but at the same time would provide coverage for almost any shot I could imagine! I bought this lens from Amazon a few weeks ago and found it to be a perfect lens...VERY sharp, excellent color renditions due to the quality of the coatings and glass, light weight, fast focusing, and gives me the ability to take shots I would've missed before with the excellent VR function! I highly recommend this lens to anyone, amateur or pro (my son is pro photographer, by the way) as it truly is a "one-lens" solution where you don't feel like you've had to sacrifice anything to get this much flexibility! |

| Camera package didn't come with as much wide angle as I'd like so I thought this lens would make a good addition. I was right. It's easy to use and for my purposes delivers quality images. My main use is for landscape photography and this lens offers both a good zoom range and a nice wide angle all in one package. There are times when changing lens is not always possible (think balloon ride), this lens covers alot of ground. I normally drag along a digital and film camera so less lens to carry will be benefical to camera bag! br /Excellent Nikon product as always. |

"Great lens to keep it on your Camera all the time" | 2008-10-02 |

| It's been a month since I bought this lens and everything about this lens is true. It's a great everyday lens. Everything about this lens is great, not good but great. Not spectacular but great. It focus quick and accurate. Color is vibrant and tad too contrast but that can be adjust in camera body. br /Everything needs to be adjusted to your personal taste no matter which lens you buy. You also need to sacrifice something to gain something in return. If anyone who think they can have everything in both world must let others know cause they can make fortune. Only thing this lens lacks is f stop. Yes 5.6 is too dark and it might search focusing when it's very dark but can you imagine if Nikon make this lens a 2.8 fixed? how much would it cost and how big and heavy would it be? I don't think Nikon built this lens for the pros but there are many pros using this lens and very happy about it. I was using 18-135 before I got this and they are world of apart. I'm having fun with lens and only thing I will need a single prime lens. Maybe 50mm of 35mm. I'm leaning toward 35mm. |

| The 18-200 VR is an excellent travel lens, is extremely versatile, and good quality overall, but it is not the only lens you will ever need for most people.br /br /It has its flaws, most notably for me are the distortion at 18 mm (which is correctable) and the lens isn't the best as you approach 200 mm, but it still is good enough for most cases. I also noticed it tends to overexpose a hair near 18mm, but exposure comp takes care of that easily, then again this could also be my camera or the shooting situations. I haven't done enough comparisons for this.br /br /The strength are the flexibility and the VR. VR is great and makes hand held shooting with lower shutter speeds great. Think lower light shots hand held at 18mm and 200mm hand held without camera shake.br /br /Traveling this is the lens I use 80% of the time now. For more specific situations I still dig into my lens bag more, particularly for my 12-24 or 50mm 1.8. |

"For a do-it-all lens, it's SIMPLY THE BEST" | 2008-09-24 |

| A lot of reviewers are saying this lens isn't sharp. They must be insane. How sharp CAN a lens be when it zooms from 18mm all the way up to 200mm? Maybe it's not quite as sharp as an f2.8 lens costing twice the money, but otherwise, it's mighty sharp. It's sharper than any other super-zoom out there. It's designed to be used as one all-around great lens instead of lugging around three or four incredibly sharp lenses. All zoom lenses are soft or distorted SOMEWHERE in their focal range/aperture. This lens is actually just as sharp or sharper than most lenses, and it focuses to 20 inches!!! That alone makes this lens an amazing performer. Maybe it's not as sharp as a real macro, but with what other lens can you take a considerably sharp ladybug at 200mm and then zoom out and shoot the entire landscape at 18mm? If it's not sharp enough, then why are so many pros using it all the time, and not even bothering with their other lenses?br /br /I have a Nikon D200 and this lens. Everywhere I go, this camera/lens comes with me. Because of this amazing lens, I've been able to hike to the tops of waterfalls and through rainforests without a camera bag. I have worked professionally, but I'm not a pro. I don't need to spend a fortune on lenses for just a tiny bit more sharpness. I can always sharpen in Photoshop if necessary. But even a pro would have to admit that for a do-it-all lens, NOTHING is better than the Nikon 18-200mm. |

The lens still works as well as the day I bought it. The only time I swap lens is when I need a little more length( i use my 70-300 vr) or extreme low light without flash. This lens is supewr for sports, portraits, and landscapes. It has never let me down. The colors and sharpness are consistently A+. I would advise anyone with a nikon dslr to purchase this lens. | I bought this lens to replace a 18-250 lens from another manufacture. I tested it for resolution at the center and edges from the widest f stop through f22. It was better than expected based on dpreview test of this lens so I decied to keep the lens. The lens I replaced (although sharper) could not be trusted to focus properly. The Nikon is always right on. I have shot at 1/5th second and at 200mm with great results using the VR. A great lens. |
