"Another Homerun for Apple" | 2008-06-03 |

In the late part of 1999, I considered and built what I thought was the best, fastest PC I had ever seen. I spent nearly $1300 for the components and then took my time putting it all together. It was my goal, you see, to make a PC that could capture, edit and burn DVD footage. It failed miserably and I made the move to Apple.
I proudly owned and operated a desktop PowerMac G4 and was amazed and how quickly it rendered and burned a DVD (Only about 10 hours for 2 hour DVD). LOL....I know what you are thinking, but at LEAST this machine COULD do the job.
Fast forward 7 years and the ol' girl was getting to show her age. Not to mention the fact that a whole new slew of iMacs were hitting the streets, so I bought one. The white iMac (MA589LL/A) once again blew my mind! Sleek design, all the bells and whistles anyone could want and it cost about 1/2 what I paid for the G4...my trusty little friend.
A year later I still love the machine-and I am now upgrading the RAM to 3GB. This computer is flawless, FAST and reliable-three words you will NEVER hear about a PC! Way to Go, Steve Jobs...I plan to remain an Apple user for many years to come. |

| I have had the G5 before this, but this one is just great. I have everything cordless, it's just neat, simple. A few times I've had to call about the cordless mouse loosing connection, and you have to change the batteries on the keyboard and mouse after every few months, but other than that how can you not love it. I've never gotten a virus with my Mac. It's worth the few extra dollars you spend compared to IBM's. I can't say enough good things about it. Easy to use etc.... |

"Mighty pretty, but --- and I never thought I'd say this but - I miss my Dell" | 2008-02-05 |

I composed a long, thoughtful review detailing exactly what irritates the hell out of me about my 20" Intel Core 2 duo iMac, when Safari, in which I composed it, unexpectedly crashed (something which isn't supposed to happen if you believe the hype). It's the second time Safari has crashed this evening, and iTunes has been crashing every time the weedy superdrive has trouble reading a disk - which is far more often and any other optical drive I have ever encountered - all week.
The iMac is pretty, but there is a large element of substance over style. I don't like OSX. Windows XP is nicer, more intuitive, more flexible and more powerful. Having owned this iMac for a year, my next purchase - shortly - will be a Dell computer equipped with Vista. This one will be relegated to recording music and making pretty pictures - I'll do the hard yards on an interface I like and can trust.
And did I mention iTunes? Boy I hate iTunes.

| We have four at home, not counting two iPods, and we don't have to forget that anyhow Windows is necessary, so I also have had a PC till the moment I've got the Mac Core Due and could work with both systems: Mac & PC in the same Apple Tree. To have more space and less big things and cords on my desk is great, and even better when you place a beautiful and decorative white Apple on it which works so good having the things you need from Windows, but with the "easy to drive" from Mac, not counting it's better colors and sound, specially for me who work recording and playing music and video profesionaly, and Mac always did it far better with sound, video and graphics. |

"Maybe I Got a Bad Apple..." | 2007-08-04 |

I've been a PC user for years and got fed up with the constant problems, so I made the jump to the iMac. After 4 weeks, I awoke to what some call The White Screen of Death and called Apple support. After an hour of button-pushing to no avail, the tech told me I would need to take the computer to an authorized service center. The nearest was 50 miles away. They couldn't really explain what happened, but they reformatted my hard drive, erased my data and billed me $77, even though I purchased a 3 year warranty, since "it wasn't a hardware problem." 3 weeks later, the hard drive has crashed again. Maybe it's bad luck or a bad Apple, but don't expect a panacea. If you live in a major metropolitan area, it might not be too much of a hassle, but make sure to back everything up. The visual design of this machine is truly beautiful. I just wish the computer would work.
I'm writing this review on an HP Pavilion laptop that I've have for 7 months without problem. |

| As a long time (15+yr) unix/linux admin and Windows(3.0->Current) user I decided to splurge a little and try a Mac. First impressions - It just works as promised. From box to usable inside of 10 minutes easy. The interface is fantastic, and the screen clarity and brightness are beautiful. I love the keyboard, on the other hand the mouse default settings made it sluggish - increased the response and it is much better. I like Os-X, coming from a *nix background. I like the ease of software installation. Macs are expensive but you do get what you pay for. This is a nice machine that is fun and very powerful. |

I was planning to buy a new computer and was evaluating both Vista and Mac... Ended up deciding to go with a Mac and I'm incredibly happy with it.
Everything works smoothly, it recognizes all my USB devices (cameras, external HD, printer, (of course) iPod). I also use it for work, and I found all the applications that I needed -- VNC, VPN, xterm, Adium ("global messenger"), programming tools (Eclipse, Ruby, Jdeveloper), etc....
Not to mention the fact the 20" screen is huge!!!
Some of my buddies made the other choice -- Vista -- and I hear many complaints from them :) |
