This sharpener sharpens even the dullest knives I've NEVER been able to sharpen. My 20 odd year old Chefs Choice sharpener gave up the ghost so I went with the same brand since it will most likely out last ME! Great product. I will say that the 'steel' or middle part of the sharpener most likely won't be used much as I use my hand steel before using any knives. To have it just sit on a counter taking up space won't happen. That's why I chose 4 instead of 5 stars.

As recommended by the American Test Kitchen, this knife sharpener is terrific. If you do decide to purchase, read the instructions...you won't like it if you don't. I never have dull knives anymore. I love, love, love it. It is the only piece of equipment I leave out on my counter. Well worth the investment.

I've many types, hand and electric. This sharpener really works. It is simple, compact, quiet and produces incredibly sharp knife edges. Great Design.

This item produces a very sharp edge in a short amount of time making it a great time saver in a busy kitchen. The angle of the edge is the only thing keeping me from rating this 5 stars. The angle is very steep, unlike the angle produced by hand sharpening on a wet stone akin to the Oregon stone. Unfortunately, there is no way to adjust this as the guides are preset. This takes a little getting used to but the fact that you can go from completely dull to razor sharp in a few minutes more than makes up for it. Unless you have endless hours of free time to hand sharpen a blade, this is an excellent piece of equipment.

I have high quality knives which I have had professionally sharpened over the years. But after having read a good review of the M130 in Cook's Illustrated, I decided to give it a try for the sake of convenience. I started on some old knives that I haven't bothered to maintain, and it did an excellent job. I then moved on to my better knives and the results were surprising. I think the edge is every bit as good as the best I've gotten from a professional sharpening service, and even better than the factory edge. I also love the steel function, which does a better job and with less effort than I am able to get using my regular steel. Best part is the ease of use. I was not able to get the edge I wanted on my Henckels cleaver due to the thickness of the blade, but I did improve the edge over the factory. Excellent machine.
