I love this litter box - and so do Bones & Fluffy! It's always clean for them to use.
I thought the cats would stay away from something that moved at all - but they're fine with it! I would definitely suggest this!
Only complaint is that the area for the poop is very small and with two cats on a high fiber diet (who poop like it's nobody's business), it fills up quickly and I end up scooping the poop out before the first week is through. Product suggests that the litter should be changed about every 2-3 weeks for a 2 cat house. But, scooping poop once a week beats DAILY in my books! |

"The best I can find so far" | 2009-11-13 |

I have two of these boxes and am now buying a third for the basement (and also have one at our weekend cottage too), so they really are the best that I have found to date. I have two cats now (adopted a 5-month old recently) and a 2 1/2 year old cat. Both now use the boxes with no problems (other than the new little one waits the 20 minutes to watch it work -- like an interesting toy for her). With the new fuzzy addition to the family, I do have to change the whole box every week minimum ... ideally every 5 days. The older cat will use it no matter how much it smells (such a good kitty!), but the young one will not -- she would prefer to go on the flippin' carpet if I don't keep ahead of it. But I have learned this, and although very expensive with the cost of the refills, it really does help not to have unsightly kitty excrement in the litter box and the odor in the air (and poop on the floor).
Helpful hint: One thing I ADD to the litter is a kitty litter deodorizer, and mix it into the crystals. Not much, just a bit, but that helps a lot. I've used all types (private label pet store; Arm&Hammer; Tidy Cat etc), and they all work very well with this unit because they are powders and won't overfill the thing and mess up the mechanics of the box.
I have had cats all my life, and cared for them all my life, and I can say that this will save you scooping daily rather than every week -- and for that luxury, I will just keep getting these automatic boxes and refills till something better comes along, or till I can afford to hire a "kitty-litter-cleaner" person. And a chef. And a laundry doer. And a yards-keeper. And a chauffeur. Etc.
Take care and have a great time with your wonderful kitty cat! |

"Purr-fect for our 3 cats!" | 2009-11-10 |

I cannot believe how wonderful this is. We have 3 cats, and it seems like I spent my life cleaning litter boxes and sweeping up non-tracking (ha!) clumping litter. Our young cat (9 months) took right to it. With our two 15 year olds I had to go through a transition to wean them off the clumping litter. I did this by buying crystal litter and adding it gradually to the clumping, until the litter transitioned to mostly crystals. It took about a week of this and now they use the Scoopfree along with the little one. However, I've always had two little boxes so I have just ordered a second one. I also ordered hoods since the older ones are use to hoods.
When the second one arrives, it will be a significant turning point in my life! No more clumping litter in my world - no more smell - no more tracked litter - no more flying litter from scratching - and no more stinky bags of used litter. Hooray!! I feel like Cinderella!
If it wasn't so expensive to maintain, it would be absolutely perfect. However, I read the reviews on the reusable tray and I have ordered that for the second box. If it works out, I will get another for the first. You can keep costs down a little by this method, so here is hoping.
I rated 4 stars instead of 5, only due to the cost of ownership.

"Don't Buy This Money Pit!" | 2009-11-06 |

Hate it! Cats hate it! It did not work properly from day one. Refills are costly, they leak, and are impossible to get into the trashbag without a big hassel.
From the very first day that I brought this Money Pit into my home, I've had nothing but problems with it. I have two average size male cats and they will use any kind of litter box so they weren't daunted by the new box but the first time that they used it it leaked from the "handy" litter cartridge. Oh, I must have done something wrong! I cleaned up the floor, got another cartridge and installed it after making sure that I was inserting properly. Again, it leaked.
Here's the horror of the leaking. It hides underneath and you can't tell it's leaking until you go to change the cartridge, so you have a pool of pee waiting for you.
I spent as much, if not more time dealing with system as I did with a regular cat box.
Good luck to who ever buys this. If you think you've found the panacea to the cat box issue, you will be dissapointed.

"Great and a few tips" | 2009-10-10 |

I live in an apartment with few good places for a litterbox. I finally tucked this thing away in a medium sized hall closet and installed a cat flap for access. I don't like scooping to begin with and my 2 indoor cats mean that this would be a frequent chore. Since the litter box is in a hard to reach area, for me, scooping is even more of a pain. Additionally, one cat doesn't cover their leavings, so this box is an absolute godsend. They give you an ultra long cord to hook it up, so I didn't even need an extension cord. The motor seems powerful and I haven't any trouble with jamming.
The couple tips I would give are these: Get the Forever Litter Tray (also sold on Amazon) if you are cheap like me. It doesn't add much inconvenience, and it will save you a lot of money. You can get crystal litter at a wholesale club or Walmart. The other tip would be to add a little baking soda in the waste area to help absorb the odors a bit (not that the waste area doesn't close well, but in a secluded area the odor can build up a bit more, the small amount of baking soda takes care of this. It might be a bit pricey, but you shouldn't need to buy too many, as it seems to be quite durable. I highly recommend this self-cleaning litterbox! |

"sloped waste cover causing some problems" | 2009-10-10 |

So far this is working great for one of my cats. I love the hood (I can't believe littermaid hasn't stepped up to complete with it). I read comments about the litter trays leaking, so I just put a doggy potty pad underneath as a just in case. Another positive is that it is much quieter then the littermaid. I didn't even hear it at night, whereas I used to wake up when the littermaid went off.
The problem I am having is that my other cat does not turn around in the litter. So she is stepping in and going and the urine is hitting the angled waste cover, which slopes away from the litter. Not a good situation. If only it was sloped the other direction it would just flow back in. Not sure how to encourage her to turn around, so this may be a dealbreaker.
