I have had this unit for about 3 years now. I am still very pleased with the picture quality.
"Good looking and works fine"

I bought the former model of this product two years ago. Because it has been working well and it has nice slim design, I bought another one for the another TV set. So far no problem.
I bought this thing as a gift for my mother, and now I'm thinking of buying one for myself. The thing played everything I put into it. DVDs from the UK, MP3's off my jump drive, even AVI files from a cd. I've been hard pressed to find a way to watch avi files without converting them and this is the answer. Definitely worth the money!
"Code for ALL REGIONS"

We really like our Philips DVP5960. It has a good image and we like being able to view files from a Flash Drive with the USB port.
If you live overseas and need to know how to set it up to view DVDs from all regions do the following:
1. Turn The Player On 2. Open Disk Tray 3. On The Remote Control Press Setup 4. Navigate to the Preferences Page Using the Right Arrow Key 5. On The Remote Control Press 138931 You will now see the Current Region Code Displayed 6. Use the Up / Down Arrow keys to Select the Region Required (1~6) or 0 (Zero) for Region Free. 7. On The Remote Control Press Setup
"Like the region free but this bugger is slowwwwww"
I've owned this for over a year and it is a tough little machine that gets the job done but it is sloooooww. Opening the tray, turning on (yawn), turning off (I"m asleep before it is)...I've never had a slower machine. Still, the region free for a price you have to love plus the fact it does do the job for less than the price of a nice dinner out on town the town makes it hard to complain. Sturdy little work horse, budget friendly and region free make it a solid buy - but be prepared to wait.
"Takes forever to turn on before it responds to anything"

This is my first review... and it's for an item I bought a year ago. I was immediately unsatisfied because of how slow to respond this unit is after you turn it on. After a year of regret I'm finally writing my review to express this.
It does look nice... But you have to wait 7 seconds for it to even turn on. Doesn't sound like long??--well imagine pushing the power button and counting to 7 before you can hit the eject button because it won't respond to anything. Believe it or not, this is a huge annoyance. Especially weird since the unit looks so hi-tech and nice.
