"Just what I've been wanting!" | 2008-09-04 |

This is just what I've been wanting to convert my old LPs, 45s and Cassettes to CDs. I studied the reviews while waiting and downloaded all the documentation I could from Numark. As a result, I was able to see that most of the negative reviews seemed to be a result of not reading and following all the instructions clearly. A few were from faulty equipment which should be corrected by a return/new turntable. Those that complain about no sound? - Read the notes on Control Panel. Just reset your Playback default device!
The most common negative comment given has been the lack of a dust cover. To me, this is minor. I had some old burgundy velvet fabric that (when trimmed to a rectangle) was just about the right size. I just cover the entire turntable with this fabric when I'm not using it.
For me, everything boiled down to -
Pros: Does exactly what it says it does. I'm not a audiophile. I just wanted my old recording in a more easily used format.
Easy to use - I had no problem with Audacity. I did not use the CD. I downloaded the newest version prior to my turntable being delivered and just waited to install it. The assembly was simple and easily done.
Split larger recording - Splitting a longer recording (in my test case, 6 songs) into the separate tracks AND naming them was very very nice!
Stereo Input Jack - I did purchase the extra cable to be able to convert my cassettes and that adds to my enjoyment by being able to convert those to CDs as well. Of all the turntables I studied prior to purchase, this was the only one that that that feature.
Cons - All minor (non serious enough to cost a star):
No Dust Cover - Make your own with a piece of heavy cloth.
Audacity missing one "preference" - It's a minor pain to have to specify "monitor input" every time!
No clear information as to what setting the Phono/line switch on the back should be for use in USB mode. I left it in "Phono" (default) because the Line setting had warnings. I figured if it didn't work, it was easy to change.
Non-removable RCA cables - Since this is NAMED "USB", it's kind of silly that these cables are not removable!
Over all - I would give this 6 stars but 5 was as high as it went. I was very very happy with my first attempt. |

| This turntable works pretty well, I have a Mac so it was basically plug and play. I used to have to hook up a mixer and another turntable to get my vinyl xfered. The sound quality is great, nice and loud and clear. I didn't have any hum as some of the reviewers said. Every once and awhile i get a feedback type sound but unplugging it and re-plugging it fixes that. The only complaint is that it doesn't come with a cover. |

Super easy set up. Interesting Audacity software which comes with it. I love the line out/phono out option. I can just plug it in & enjoy my LP's without having to do any recording or anything. Having the 'gain' on the turntable is great - higher for just listening & lower for recording. Lots of control to get the best sound wherever. I'm quite happy with it & I'm sure it will be even better as I learn all the options with the software. |

| Makes it easy as pie to transfer vinyl to digital format. Software is easy to use. No matter what transfer mechanism one uses, dividing and naming track is the time consuming factor. I like this product. |

| This product works very well. The only issue I have is that you have to remember to lift the arm when the record is over. It does not have an auto lift, so you can't walk away from it for very long without risking needle damage. Also, the signal is very low and a preamp is needed. If you don't already have one, don't buy this product without buying something to power the signal. Otherwise, I am very happy with this investment. |

| I didn't have any trouble getting the turntable set up, and while the software instructions looked complicated the first time I read them, when I followed them a step at a time at my computer they were very straightforward. I'd say within an hour I had set it up and recorded two or three songs I'd never been able to find for download. However, the first few hours I used it the sound quality of my recordings was so bad that I decided that the turntable was only worth using if you absolutely could not find the song any other way. I accepted that I'd just have to continue to pay $.99 for songs I already owned in other formats. I was about ready to pack the turntable up and stick it in the closet when I decied to fiddle around with some of the settings that I got through the instructions. Instead of 16 bit, I changed settings to 32 bit floating, and I also made the arm a little heavier. Suddenly, everything works great, and I'm going through both old albums and old cassette tapes to add to my digital collection. |

| Very good product and does what I expected it to. It would be nice if the turntable included a dark, plastic cover so that I could place it over the turntable while the LP is playing, keeping the dust out. Also, I have a curious cat and the cover would be nice as he is attracted to the turntable. With a cover, I think he would be less interested. |
