Editorial Review
The Alphabet Train Station packs a slew of activities for preschoolers, usually found in a combination of toys, into one fun-filled set. Toddlers learn their alphabet by moving the train around or pressing letters on the track to hear the letter and object spoken. Letters light up on the display panel for additional reinforcement. When kids get tired of that, they can place one of the 18 plastic animals in the Smart Parts spot to discover which animal they are and the sound they make. Still looking for more Preschoolers can attempt some composing on the five-key piano or work on telling time by turning the hands on the station clock. As a last resort, kids can ignore all the electronic bells and whistles and just have some good old-fashioned creative play with the animals, the train track, and the seven role-play pieces. As with many Vtech toys, the Alphabet Train Station makes a lot of repetitive sounds that kids love but can get on parents' nerves. Thankfully, there is a volume control for quieter play. The toy comes with three short-term "AA" batteries for immediate play out of the box and an automatic shut-off feature kicks in if the station is left untouched for a few minutes. --Cristina Vaamonde

4 Star Rating  "Trey's Train Set"

I bought this train set for my one year old as part of his Christmas. Although Trey enjoys this his three year old daughter really loves this toy. We have been using this every night to help her learn to identify the letters on the track. There are alot of things that can be played with on the track, we really like this toy and would recommend it especially for siblings as there is plenty for eveyone to play with.

We purchased this toy for my for Christmas last year. He was 1 1/2 at the time. I agree with other reviewers in that we too were initially disappointed that the train does not go around the tracks. Also, since the track does not come apart from the station, it was impossible for him to put the animals on the stand without leaning on letters and setting those off. However, he plays with this toy every day, and now that he's 2 1/2, he can reach the animal stand fine, and enjoys playing the game where he's asked to find the letter that makes each sound, etc. If you're looking for a train, this is not the toy to buy. If you're looking for just a fun learning toy, this one is great. He still loves it!

I found this toy on clearance after Christmas 07' and put it away for this year. After reading the reviews, I was really worried and decided to put it together and try it out before Christmas morning. This is going to be his big Santa gift. I liked the fact that it was ready to go straight out of the box. He loved the music, all the animals and the signs that it comes with. My only problem is like many others is the design flaw. He has to sit on the tracks to play with it and it only comes with one train car. He has no problem with that though. This toy will probably not hold his attention in the long run, but was worth the clearance price. If you looking for a real good train set, I would steer clear. If you little one likes music, animals, and pressing buttons this would be a good starter set. It does come with a storage bag to put the 25 animals and different signs.

my nephew loved this thing with the movement and talking but at 18 months he hasn't gotten the hang of the educational side yet. here's hoping he grows into it.

I purchased this for my two grandchildren. One age 13months and One age 2.
Neither one of them found this toy interesting or fun. The train has to be moved by hand and I guess mine are two young to find that fun. My youngest plays more with the animals alone than with the train set. The set is very sturdy which Iam glad and easy to take down and put away. They just don't seem interested in this toy too much.
