| If you remember when Madden 2001 was released for the PS2, the game was still much better on the the PS1 simply because it was on the console for several years and the bugs were worked out and the gameplay was smooth. Seems that history has repeated itself in making the shift to the PS3. I purchased this recently used for about $13 and played it. I also played the PS2 version quite a bit and the gameplay and overall quality of the product is much better on the PS2 version. I quickly cut my losses and sold the PS3 version for about $8. At this point, I'm playing Madden 08 for the PS2 on my HDTV. Hey, it's just more fun that way. At least until they improve the quality of the PS3 version to a comparable level. |

| I got this game the day it came out and I had to wait about 3 months to get a ps3 to play it and I got the 60GB. The first thing you are going to notice when you play the game is the shift from ps2 to ps3! Like the gameplay is slower than the lightning fast ps2 version and also the controls are different, like R2 is to sprint instead of X, but you'll get use to it. Also, the menus are hard to navigate and they sometimes freeze, like you'll be trying to view a teams roster and it won't let you go back to the menus. Second, the graphics are so cool but some of the players faces don't look like themselves and reggie bush's face, oh my gosh!, but he's fast with the cool highlight stick, also there are no referees or the chain people on the field and there is no net behind the field goal post and when you kick the ball and it is good it goes through like there is a net, now that is weird! But I recommend this game if you don't have this year's madden on a another platform or your new to video games and you like pro football. Well its just another year for us madden fans, but we are definitely hoping that madden 08 is going to way better. |

"I Expected So Much More" | 2007-03-30 |

I have been playing Madden forever, and have gotten every single new version since 2001. Every year got progressively better, and while I didn't like some features when they were new (i.e. - the quarterback vision thing) I learned to deal with them and use them.
I expected this release to blow my socks off. I was expecting to get confused as to if I was watching a game or playing one. I was horribly let down.
The graphics are okay. I expected more honestly, a lot more, but I won't give EA too much crap for a game on a new system. A little, but not too much. I fully expect '08 will graphically excel and own all.
Graphically, in terms of how things are laid out and viewed, the game blows. Depending on your team's colors, time of day, weather, and field, the score/game clock/play clock can be next to impossible to decipher. Play calling is an exercise in frustration. Playing a human opponent in the same room, allows him/her to see the plays you are picking, there is no triangle, circle, square selection. You have to highlight your play and hope they fell asleep waiting. So now you go to the line, and they know you are doing a half-back dive. Damn you EA you think as you see their line backers creep up. Sure you could audible, but that is almost worse than just going for it and seeing what happens.
And no Madden? I mean c'mon. Its called "Madden" for the love of God. Sure his comments are obvious, his voice annoying... but we love him nonetheless.
Overall I get the impression that EA tried way too hard to make this Madden different, so as to herald the PS3's release, but in the effort they ruined the best thing they had going.
So to conclude I have a short wish list for EA. 1) Improve the play calling function 2) Improve the graphics (I paid a lot of money for my PS3 and I wanna see what it can do!) 3) Change the user display, go old school 4) Bring back Madden
Final word: you are much better off playing the '06 PS2 disc and waiting one more year. |

| I bought this game and the graphics just jumped out at me. They are really good. The game play is different. It is fun to play but the defensive is like swiss cheese. Also it sometimes seems like the players are just skating instead of running it seems like. The new interface is somewhat confusing at first. I hope the next Madden is better. Or if you did not know there is going to be a new 2K football game. So maybe hopefully they will give madden football what it needs. A kick in the butt! |

all the way to the bank! Ever since EA Sports bought the exclusive rights to the NFL License, Madden NFL hasn't changed much except for the usual roster updates, slightly more polished graphics, etc. I wish that Sega Sports could still make NFL games because the NFL 2K series was the best football sim around. I would even rather play an old NFL Gameday (Sony CEA) rather than this overrated pile. Back in 1997, Madden NFL 98 lost in sales to NFL Gameday 98 because it was inferior. The next year EA Sports improved and went back to being the #1 selling NFL game. Then in 1999, Sega Sports released the breakthrough NFL 2K which destroyed Madden NFL 2000 gameplay and graphics wise. EA Sports hasn't made a Madden NFL as good as NFL 2K EVER, although they have always out sold Sega Sports NFL 2K because of better name recognition/marketing. I hope that Electronic Arts exclusive NFL License ends soon in the next few years because Madden needs competition like NFL 2K and NFL Gameday to stay fresh! Anyway about this game: EA Sports must have lost all inspiration for making a new Madden NFL game every year, because this game simply feels stale. The graphics are clean and smooth for the most part, but the gameplay feels really slow and the controls are stiff and unintuitive. Controls are the worst for kicking field goals/punt/kick offs. If you absolutely need to play a new football game then I guess you should buy this lame piece since Madden NFL is the only game in town these days... :( |

If you're looking for a game to play head-to-head or don't care about Franchise mode, the game will be fine for you. The graphics are great and the gameplay is good for head-to-head mode, but everything else about the game is really, really bad.
1) In Franchise mode, CPU teams sign Hall of Fame players to their team -- in a recent game against the Vikings, YA Tittle was the QB and Chuck Bednarik was on defense! This makes franchise mode almost unplayable.
2) There is no way to edit player ratings
3) There are no formation-specific substitutions
4) The announcer is a generic radio voice -- no Madden!! (which may be a positive for some people)
It looks like this game was rushed to market and is nowhere near a completed product. I'm back to playing Madden for the PS2 on my PS3. |
