Product Description
What does the American Dream mean today?
For Niko Bellic, fresh off the boat from Europe, it is the hope he can escape his past. For his cousin, Roman, it is the vision that together they can find fortune in Liberty City, gateway to the land of opportunity. As they slip into debt and are dragged into a criminal underworld by a series of shysters, thieves and sociopaths, they discover that the reality is very different from the dream in a city that worships money and status, and is heaven for those who have them and a living nightmare for those who don’t.

Beginning with the 1997 release of the original Grand Theft Auto, the GTA series has been one of the most prolific, controversial and down right entertaining franchises in video games history. This pedigree of success guarantees that the highly anticipated eleventh game in the series, Grand Theft Auto IV, will garner at least as much attention if not more.

The Plot
Grand Theft Auto IV is a brand new adventure in the GTA universe following the experiences of Nikolai "Niko" Bellic, a new immigrant from an undisclosed eastern European country whose troubled pa st and the persuasion of his cousin Roman have brought him to the fictional Liberty City. Unfortunately, Niko’s search for the American Dream and a much needed fresh start, hits an immediate snag when the rags to riches story Roman spun to pique Niko's interest is exposed as not only a complete fabrication, but a ploy to enlist Niko’s well-known skills as a tough guy against the ample list of enemies clamoring for Roman’s debt-ridden blood.

Because Roman is the only person Niko knows in Liberty City he begrudgingly accepts his role as Roman’s protector despite the deception. But as time goes on Niko comes into his own, and his experience on the wrong side of the tracks proves more valuable than he could have ever imagined as he fights for survival and later supremacy on the crime ridden streets of Liberty City.

Game Environments
Based on several of the boroughs of New York City and parts of New Jersey, Liberty City, familiar to players of previous games in the series, has been entirely redesigned for GTA IV. Players can expect visible detail down to the weeds growing in the cracks in the sidewalk, cars and buildings of visibly different ages and a much greater level if verticality in the buildings and bridges that they are able to explore as Niko moves through the city streets. In addition, pedestrians in GTA IV are much more realistic. No longer simply moving cardboard cutouts, these NPCs are intelligent, modern, human representations that laugh, cry, eat, drink, use cell phones and ATMs, and talking amongst themselves regardless of Niko’s interaction with them.

Gameplay
Historically GTA games have focused heavily on mission-based play, requiring successful completion of fixed tasks in order for players to progress through the game, but this has changed to a great extent in GTA IV. Players will experience an entirely new and exciting emphasis centered on the blending of on-mission and off-mission play, resulting not only in an increased sense of realism, but more interesting and unrestricted gameplay.

Features
Aside from the car jacking and a detailed city environment here are the new features for GTA IV:
  • Improved combat system - Now you can use cover and also a target lock system, which allows you to take out targets with greater ease and accuracy. Plus, you can engage in some hand-to-hand combat if you can't get your hands on a piece quick enough.
  • Cell phone - Not just for basic phone calls anymore. Use your in-game cell phone to receive missions via SMS, snap photos, and ZiT (tag) songs that can be downloaded exclusively on Amazon.com/mp3.
  • Free time - In between missions you can take advantage of "me" time. There are gentleman's clubs, comedy clubs, bowling alleys, and bars, which all house unique activities.
  • Take a break from the storyline - A variety of side missions allow you to help run a car service, "borrow" cop cars, assassinate targets, help solve problems for those on the street, or take to the air with stunt jumps that are scattered all over the city.
  • Control your own fate - Throughout the game choice moments will arrive causing you to make a decision that will affect relationships and money.

Multiplayer
Give Niko a rest and create your own multiplayer "hero." GTA has added multiplayer modes allowing you to take your creation out to play online in competitive, co-op, and free form modes. Competitive mode has you fighting against the cops, jacking cars, or racing to finish odd jobs. Co-op challenges you and your friends with various tasks including Hangman's NOOSE where you are responsible for escorting a wanted kingpin to a safe extraction point. Freeform lets you and 15 others lose on Liberty City. Use this mode to hit up the bar and play virtual darts versus each other or head out to the streets and set up your own drag races. If you can dream it, you can do it in Freeform mode.

ZiT: We'll Spot The Song For You
When playing Grand Theft Auto IV, if you hear a song that you are interested in buying as an MP3, all you have to do is dial ZiT-555-0100 on your in-game mobile phone and a text message will be sent to you with the name of the artist and the title of the track. The next time you log in at the Rockstar Games Social Club, you will find 30-second previews of all the songs you have ZiT'ed while playing the game. You can add them to your basket there and click to purchase at Amazon MP3, or you can find them all at www.amazon.com/gtamusic.

hello i have played past GTA games before and i liked them they were fun...... i know comunication is an important part of life and cellphones are great devices to comunicate with other people, having good friends in your life is priceless, this game has both of them that should make this gaming experience great..... but it doesn't it is very anoying that everytime i am trying to do something the cellphone starts to ring... and it is one of the friends inviting you to play bol or darts or some other time wasting minigame if you say no they won't be your friends or not as good friends and they won't do any favors to you, that's not fun or at least don't consider it fun, but i think they were trying to be realistic on that one and i guess it's fine, also all the past GTA games had color(brighter than in this one# again going for the realistic side, i'm not sure if i am the only one who likes to play videogames now and then to get out of the routine of going to work, school, frinds #i like my friends, not nikos friends# etc.. in the game i don't want to hang out with people i don't like or can't understand what they're saying#thick accents) or roaming through a sad looking city, i stopped playing after the first 20 mins. so great alternate-life-simulator i guess and maybe on GTA 5 they will include the tax forms for the federal income tax and a everyday job to make the game even more real.... just get any other GTA game
also the with the auto aim option the game is easier than typing "hello" why? because you can kill most of the enemies by presing 2 buttons (one to auto aim and the other to fire the gun) you don't even have to look at the tv..... but hey want some challenge? turn the auto aim off and it is from very hard to impossible to kill the enemies you would think that the bullet of a gun goes in a straight line say if you have an enemy in front of you at a considerable small distance you aim at him and shoot him you could think he will get killed or at least wounded but no or i don't know if he is wounded there is no indicator..... so that's it

This is gotta be the one must have game for playstation 3. It basically combines all my games together, driving, shooting, beating up cops, destroying the city... I regret not having this game earlier, would of saved the trouble buying other games and constantly changing disks.

Get the game, you can't go wrong. I have been playing it for the past week, and it is just so god damn awesome. For less than thirty bucks this is really really cheap... I would honestly pay $150 for this as the only game I will need for ps3.

*I do not recommend this game for minors however. Stuff happens in the game can really affect how you think in real life. Unless you are sure that your kid can control him/herself and know what's right or wrong, i wouldn't give them gta4 for xmas. It is rated M for mature for a reason. For me however, all the bad things i day dream about i get to do it in this game, which is freaking awesome!!

I have never been a fan of the GTA series. I was always partial to the Driver franchise. I always liked Driver because it had better graphics. Then GTA 4 came out and based on a lot of good reviews and bought it. All those reviews were right. The graphics were actually very well done to my surprise. The game play was simple and easy to pick up. The realism of this game surprised me the most. You actually have to break to take turns unlike in most other free roam games where you just turn and somehow the car makes it. The story is pretty well done with some interesting choices involved. The game actually has two endings based on your decision.

Presentation- The game does capture New York City very well. There are a lot of people walking around including hookers. The music is based on a radio system where you can change to different stations to hear the music you like. The one complaint I have is that the game is a little dark even during midday. 4/5

Graphics- The graphics look pretty good. The cars show a lot of damage and the people themselves look pretty lifelike. Some of the people could have been modeled a little better, but this world is huge and it is a small complaint. There are also some weird glitches in car damage, but not overly distracting. 4.5/5

Story- The story is pretty well done. It develops nicely over the length of the campaign. Some of the side missions are a little to far fetched, but the core missions are well developed. There is a lot of variety, the use of cut scenes help, and the ability to choose between different actions helps to lead the story in different directions. 4.5/5

Game play- The realistic car steering is a nice touch that adds to the realism. The only main gripe I have is that you have to tap X to run. Why couldn't they just make it hold the X button instead of tap it? There are a lot of cars to choose from, but the cover system could've been done better. I rarely used it. The auto aim is nice, but can be turned off if desired. It would have been nice if there was more customization, but I'm sure they'll add it into GTA V. The online free roam is a nice touch and has added to the replay value of this title. 4.3/5

Lasting Appeal- This game takes about 30-40 hours to beat. It is an engrossing journey that you must finish. There is a lot of time spent free roaming the city as well. This city is massive and full of secrets. The online adds some fun for you and your buddies to enjoy. 5/5

The Verdict- This game was a surprise to me as someone who was not a fan of its predecessors. I have devoted many hours to this game and I still love running away from the cops and doing jumps with some buddies online. This game does have its drawbacks, but overall it's a great free roam adventure. 4.5/5

Opening Statement...

I know a lot of people don't like this game for the crudeness involved in it. But I think it is a great game with an endless amount of fun. I first purchased this game back when it first came out and played it until I beat it which is a job in itself. I thought the storyline was very cleaver and well thought of.

Graphis...

I think the graphics in this came are amazing in a big scale. I mean when you walk around looking at all the people you very rarely have people in the same area that look the same, I think the buildings the water everything from big to small is amazing. They all look real and have a good glare of realism to them as well. Overall I give the graphics 5/5

Gameplay...

The game play is pretty good. I mean there are endless posabilitis to what you can do with your character. All ranging from the single player to the muliplayer you can do an awful lot with this game, the gameplay is pretty straight forward not moving much from the older games so that is a good thing for people of the franchise. I rate this catagory 5/5

Audio/Sound...

I think this is a little lacking, The sounds of the guns sometimes don't fire, and sometimes i hear things that just don't make sense I mean I just can't put it together. Other then that the sounds of crashes and driving are all very good. I think they did a pretty good job with the whole game overall. I rate this catagory 4/5

Final Thought...

I think this game is a great one to have becase it deals with a lot of diffrent things you can do from single to muliplayer like I stated before. The graphics and audio are good as well. You can sit dowe and play this game for hours on end if you so well pelase to. There are many things ranging one what you can do. There are many weapons as well. This is a good game to have to play by yourself or to play with friends. I rate the game overall as a 4.5 out of 5.

Go out and grab it!

- Reviewed By User: ASJW6OJ6ALLMX
It's a good game generally speaking. However, for those who are glad to see the large forest/field areas gone... I truly miss them. There are few places in GTA4 where you can really open up and jump off cliffs into rivers, or just basically do crazy stuff out in the woods. I think there is one or two places you can even find trees in GTA4. San Andreas was so much fun... so many different areas... city, urban, rural, it was like 4 different games in one. The jetpacks, jet fighters, helicopters, tanks and many other vehicles made this game not only fun but DAMN fun. Oh yeah, and lets not forget about skydiving into military bases to steal jet fighters. When I played GTA4, I felt like I was a bad guy for being a bad guy. I want to feel good about being bad.

The graphics, of course is phenomnal which makes it even more of a shame that a lot of the out of this world stuff are missing.

I bought it, played it, and beat it... so did I like it, yes. Could I have loved it... yes... did I? No.
