I'm sure I'll get a lot of people telling me my opinion's wrong, simply because I dislike a movie they apparently adore. In my personal opinion, I've never seen what all the fuss is about as to me, Scarface is the most boring, pointless and drawn out travesty I've ever had the misfortune of watching.
The story is based around Cuban (at least I think he's Cuban, it was so boring I drifted in and out) immigrant named Tony Montana. He comes into America and for some reason wants to be a successful drug dealer, so this leads to a man's arm being cut off by a chainsaw for some reason. Then there's a couple of hours of boring dialogue with the odd gunshot here and there, then Tony says "Say hello to my little friend" and kills a load of people. The End.
I am honestly the type of person who will watch a film and look for the good points, but I simply couldn't see any for this film. It was boring, drawn out and just plain ridiculous. A lot of the people I know personally who adore this film aren't very, let's say quick witted so I can only imagine that in order for them to watch this all the way through, they had to skip to the gory or violent parts.
Boring film that I would advise people to stay away from. |

| Directed by Brian De Palma and written by Oliver Stone, "Scarface" is a movie that will not be forgotten. A Cuban refugee named Tony Montana (Pacino) comes to America for the American Dream. Montana then becomes the "king" in the drug world as he ruthlessly runs his empire of crime in Miami, Florida. This gangster movie is very violent, and some scenes are unpleasant to watch. This movie has around 180+ F-words and is almost three hours long. This movie is entertaining and you will never get bored. You cheer for the Drug-lord, and in some scenes you find out that Montana isn't as evil as some other Crime Lords. This is a masterpiece and i recommend that you see this. You will not be disappointed. |

| After his renowned roles in the Godfather movies and Serpico, I can't believe Al Pacino agreed to star in this truly sub-par melodrama. I finally got around to watching the entirety of this "influential" "masterpiece" and was surprised at how bad it really was. That's not to say it's unwatchable. It's not boring and Al Pacino is entertaining as he overacts the hell out of a one-dimensional role. But it's no cinematic masterpiece either. All it is is mental cotton candy. In fact, this is basically a clone of those low quality Mexican gangster movies from the 70s that you see on Telemundo when you're flipping channels: posturing Latino criminals who shoot and kill, shoot and kill. This is supposed to be a classic? It should tell you something about its shallowness that its biggest fans remain 13 year old boys and crotch-grabbing hip-hop morons. If you don't feel like thinking and just want to indulge in some vicarious, over-the-top violence, then you'll enjoy Scarface, because that's all this movie offers. But please spare me the embarrassing accolades about it being anything more than a poorly-made and silly generic shoot-em-up. |

| Well, well, well what you thought that couldn't get any better just did. The greatest movie in the history of cinema has just been re-released with astonishing new features. Besides the great actings and excellent screenplay (developed by Oliver Stone) on this "Platinum Edition" you get the chance to watch "Scarface" in great sound and image. Serioulsy just to paint you a picture: if you have DTS at your home, you might wanna dogde the bullets of the shootings because they sound so real with the improved soundscore that looks like that Sosa's guys are after you and not Tony! In a few words a compulsory item that everyone who likes good movies must have at the shelves of the living-room. As Fat Joe says on his "Lean Back" song: "Tony Montana Forever"! The Best! The number one! |

| My review is based on the picture and sound quality, not the movie itself which I love. Scarface has been reviewed enough since its release and it is a great movie. That's why I am so dissapointed in this release of it twenty years later. If you own a 5.1 sound system like I do, you should wait for a blu-ray to come out cause this edition sounds really bad. The claim of DTS 5.1 is b.s. and even the Dolby Digital sounds bad. The picture quality is alot better and the music sounds alright. The extras are not anything great. Overall it's a mediocre release that is decent when played with a 2.0 system. It really deserves better considering how popular it is. |

Yeah, right, I don't believe it. Almost everyone has seen this movie. If for some strange reason you haven't, well there are 700 some odd reviews to read here that I'm sure go into great detail about the plot, so read theirs. I'm just here to tell you that Pacino's performance is one of the best committed to cinema ever. This film could have easily been just another drug and gangsters movie had it not been Pacino in the lead roll. His portrayal of Tony Montana is electrifying. The supporting actors are fantastic in their own right, but Pacino is the reason to watch this remake.
I saw this movie opening day in New York city back in 1983 and the entire theater cheered during key moments in the film. It was quite an experience then, and it's still an experience now. The Platinum Edition is the way to go. I don't give five stars lightly, as to me five stars means perfect. I think many reviewers on Amazon give out five stars like they're giving candy to Halloween trick or treaters. It is very rare a film I would give a five star review, but if any film is worthy of that rating it's Scarface. |
