| I was sad to see some customers have apparently had problems with this printer. I have to say my experience has been just the opposite. I don't have one bad thing to say...It arrived three days after I ordered it ( Free Shipping Too!!!) It was easy to set up, and the first image I printed was of my son on the beach and it knocked my socks off. The second image I printed was from a Canon Raw file from a Canon XTi SLR. It was a church interior and the printer did a fantastic job rendering the wood tones. It has totally exceeded my expectations, although I can't speak to the volume of ink used as I have printed only about a dozen images. br /br /I would also mention that although this can be used as an all purpose printer, I use it only for photography. I use an old HP for documents and my thinking is that I would rather save the inks for photos. That might have something to do with the ink usage but I'm no expert.br /br /I DO know about photo quality however, and I whole heartedly recommend this printer. My experience has been great. |

| I bought this printer about a year ago. It has been no end of trouble. On the rare occasion it has worked it has produced acceptable prints, but often with banding and lines. Its function is appalling. It is fussy, spends minutes and minutes and minutes gyrating and whirring and doing nothing only to end with an error message. It uses vast amounts of ink which is expensive and most of the ink is consumed in the cleaning process and the whirring that it does. I really recommend that you do not buy this printer. You will spend time with service agents, tearing your hair out, screaming at the thing saying, 'why is it doing that,' when in the end it does nothing. The paper jams, and the mechanics operate inconsistently. Avoid this printer at all costs. |

I have been through several printers within the last month and I have to say that by far this is the best printer. At first I was a little hesitant to purchase it because it was definitely an investment, but I am glad I did. The pictures come out so clear and so fast. The ink doesn't take forever to dry like other printers and it printed so clear and crisp. I usually print from photoshop and was having such a hard time getting colors to match, but this printer worked perfectly. I have used cardstock and it has printed wonderfully. I am truly impressed!
Also I ordered this from Amazon last Wednesday and received it within 1 business day.....Amazon Prime ROCKS! |

"An incredible printer missing a few key features" | 2008-08-15 |

To begin, this is truly a professional grade printer which I have used for just over a year. I produce prints of my artwork sometimes at the rate of three or four hundred 8x10's a week, and at other times it sits idle for a week or two at a time. The color quality with genuine canon inks is incredible - in my experience requiring little to no calibration with a properly set up, quality monitor. While printing, it's quick and quiet, even without its special Quiet Mode enabled, and I have actually turned down its printing speed at times, to allow for more drying time between prints. I do try to run at least a few prints a week, but even when it was left alone for nearly three weeks, there was no issue with the print head clogging. This may not be a good printer for someone who intends to use it only a few times a year, as it does use large amounts of ink in its cleaning cycles. If you, however, need to print very high quality, medium-large format pictures (whether photos or art) at reasonably high volume, this printer is definitely a good choice.
Now for the bad - what seems to be lacking more than the printer itself is the software it comes with - most irritating is its lack of support for 11x14" paper, a standard print and photo size readily available on my previous printer, an Epson Stylus Photo 1280. Its batch printing program, Easy-PhotoPrint, also limits paper type selection based on paper size - perhaps useful if printing only with Canon's paper, but in my experience it handles other brands just as well. The CD/DVD printing option available on European models would have been nice to have as well, though so far I've had no call for it. Points that others have brought up about its size are more or less accurate - it is a behemoth. Instead of sitting next to my computer, it has the top of a shelving unit all to itself, and will overwhelm most desktop space. It also requires space behind and in front for those big 13x19" prints you'll be producing.
All in all, the good points of this printer far outweigh the bad, but for a very select number of people. If you're printing only letter sized, there are other printers in Canon's line that do the job just as well. If you frequently need to print larger than 13x19" (it also has no banner printing feature), you'd be better with an actual large format printer. If you are an independent artist, artist group, or small photography studio, however, I would definitely recommend this printer. |

| I waited for 5 months to buy this printer after I was told at Comp USA that this was the state of the art printer. WRONG. This printer drinks ink and costs hundreds to keep running. I had a paper feed problem which no one at Canon either understood of cared to involve themselves with. So my $99 Epson does most of my printing. I have also found it difficult to calibrate with my Mac so a lot of ink is wasted getting the color right. Too much money for too little. |

| Great photos, inks are in seperate tanks, very good b/w photos, easy to use. reliable...so far. The only thing I would like to see is a system that synchronizes what you see on the monitor with the pics this printer produces. Monitor to printer calibration systems are more costly than the printer itself. Rumor has it that if you wait a year or two, this technology will be incorporated into the next generation of printers. We shall see. |

"Great Printer with a little flaw" | 2008-05-28 |

I've used this printer for 3 months now and had some great results. There are always some pro and cons with everything out there now a days. The pros with this is that you can print images larger than an 8X10. The machine is capable of printing on cds with the right program and a cd disk holder that doesn't come with the American version. The European model does include this extra feature. I bought the extra cd holder on Ebay and it came with the extra program needed to get this machine to print on cd. The images looks sharp and clean with the right photo papers. The printer can print using two different feed on top and in the front which is nice. The printer is pretty straight forward since it is only design to print without having all the extra stuff that confuses you with those multi printers. As for the Con the printer will only print good on Canon photo papers. I've tried several others like HP and Ilford and the prints came out bad. The only other paper that I tried that looked good after printing was Staples Photo Supreme Satin. The Magenta and the pink runs out the quickest so make sure you buy extra inks. Other than those, this printer is a pretty good printer. |

| This thing is amazing! The print quality is exceptional... so much so that you can't tell it was printed on an inkjet and not a real photo developer. The drivers for both the mac and PC give you every option to control every little thing about the printer and print output it's great. The included software makes it really easy to print your photos too. |

For a long while I have looked for a good photo printer. Well, I finally found it in the Pixma Pro9000. I've had Hp printers prior to this one. They performed okay but the color was never of good quality. Trying to get Hp support is like trying to find "a needle in a hay stack." After discovering that Hp's solution to VISTA support was to "upgrade your product," I sure did. I made sure I didn't buy a Hp again. Canon support is excellent. I contacted them prior to purchase about OS support and drivers. Their response was fast and complete. This printer has performed excellent with vivid colorfully prints with excellent quality and its fast. I love the front loading of paper. This printer produces professional quality prints without effort. The operation is smooth and competent. I have used various papers, Ilford, Hp, Kodak and Royal Brites; various sizes from 4X6, 8x10, 8.5x11 and 13x19: various finishes--High Gloss, simi-gloss and matt art paper. The output is seamless and consistent and prints are breathtaking. If you want control of your photo work with professional quality, this is the printer for you. I did examine other manufactures but settled on this one. The printer is large but you must expect it to print 13x19.

We used to own a Hewlett Packard photo inkejet printer (the exact model number escapes me, but it was a 3 ink cartridge printer), which was good for what we were using it for at the time. However, when it died on us all of a sudden and it could not be repaired, I started researching printers. It came down to this one or the Epson 1800. Most of the reviews I read at that time said the Epson print head clogs easily and wastes a lot of ink. With the price of ink cartridges at around $100 for a full set I didn't want to be buying them all the time, so I chose this printer. Now I don't know whether what they said about the Epson is true or not. Some people swear by Canon, some swear by Epson. All I can tell you is that the quality of the 81/2 x 11 pictures that I print on this printer are so far and above in quality from what I used to get on my HP that, for me, that I am extremely happy with my decision. Its much bigger than my old HP (it takes up almost the whole top of the cabinet!) but its relatively quiet, smooth, and fast. If I remember correctly, at the time I bought this printer, it was about $100 cheaper than the Epson. If you're serious about printing excellent quality photos, you can't go wrong with this printer.
