I bought the "Legacy Series" disc to get a wide screen version, and it is a very fine upgrade from my older 4:3 aspect version.
I can't comment on the additional content of the second disc. I generally don't even watch that stuff. |

| This movie is excellent, with a stellar cast headed by Paul Newman and Robert Redford at their peak. You have to see this movie in order to fully appreciate it; no words or someone else's review can do it justice. As for the Amazon part of it, it came timely and in excellent condition. However, I had trouble with the checkout process and double ordered this movie. I gave the other to a friend but I do not enjoy being so confused and non-tech-savvy so that it makes me want to buy from another site that shows me what I have in my cart, how much the total price will be, etc. Amazon's DVDs, however, do come always in wrapped, new condition. What bothered me was my writing to the seller first to find out which was full or widescreen. I received no answer. When I happened to buy the DVD twice, I gave the fullscreen away, but that was quite tacky. An answer from the sellers would be recommended, even if the answer is no. |

| Owning only a vhs of this film, I was stunned to see 23 votes of 5 and a 4.0 overall rating. The dvd must have come in upside down and/or backwards.(Was Claude Rains' famous "I'm shocked, shocked to see gambling going on here" from 'Casablanca' inserted by mistake or as a gag)? Wow! For my money, this is one of my best movies, simply because it stands up so well over the years, and renders itself to multiple wiewings with ease. The Newman/Redford/ Shaw triangle is acting at its best, with a totally realistic cast supporting them. Director Hill's unique methods are noteworthy,if not groundbreaking, and Hamlisch's musical score has become little short of historic. If one is truly dissatisfied with the dvd, sell it, trade it, copy a version off of television. Just don't get too spoiled and miss some really good entertainment. |

| Forget about the aspect ratio, focus on the film and it's plot...The story is superb, the acting is first class, the customs and the beautiful music is unique!!!! The HD version is great with no "snowy" images when is shot in the dark (like Blu-ray).. I love this movie. If you are a true movie lover without prejudices, you will love it!! |

| Unfortunately, once you've seen the "twist" ending, the movie loses some luster, but the performances are first rate, and it's still a wonderful film all these years later. Great trivia regarding the casting- Luthor is played by James Earl Jones father, who was also a solid actor! |

| Perhaps I have gotten jaded in my old age. I really loved this movie when I first saw it. I bought to have in my library of classic movies. Redford and Newman were great and the rest of the cats I liked. It was amusing and fun, but either because of a lot of movies like this one since then or the fact I had seen it several times, the ending was more blase' than I had remembered. |

I just bought a DVD version of this film and was surprised how fresh it still feels. Without a doubt, this is the best con movie of all time.
Paul Newman and Robert Redford should have made more movies together. Their personalities seem to blend in a way that makes one plus one really add up to three. This is a clever story, with perfect pacing, and a great cast at the top of their game. Everyone should own this classic.
(My rating is for the movie. I bought the low cost DVD version and, at least my version, it had no special features and the definition was marginal. I'd give the DVD only three stars.)

For years I lamented the fact that there was no Widescreen DVD version of this movie available. Though released in 2005, I have only just now discovered this product (Xmas 2007). WOW!!
Seeing the movie for the first time in its natural aspect ratio was wonderful. You miss so much on cropped down "fit to your TV screen" versions. There is just so much going on around the scene that you loose the fine details that Director George Roy Hill injects into every shot.
The second disc contains bonus features that are absolutely wonderful. There is a featurette that includes interviews from several of the cast (in later years) which brings the full charm of this classic movie to light. I already knew I loved the story, but to listen to the cast talk about it, it becomes very clear that this was quite possibly - the perfect script ever written.
I am quite happy with this product and if you are a Sting fan - it should be in your collection. |
