The redesigned Windows Media Center in Windows Vista lets you enjoy your media throughout your home, even on your Xbox 360. Update Eligibility
You can upgrade from your current edition of Microsoft Windows XP or Windows 2000 (including Windows XP Professional, Windows XP Home, Windows XP Media Center, Windows XP Tablet PC, Windows XP Professional x64, Windows 2000) to a corresponding or better edition of Windows Vista by purchasing and installing this upgrade copy of Windows Vista. Depending on which edition of Windows you are running and the edition of Windows Vista you would like to install, you have two options for the installation process: You can upgrade in-place, which means you can install Windows Vista and retain your applications, files, and settings as they were in your previous edition of Windows or you can do a clean install. If you are currently using Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP Professional x64, you are eligible for an upgrade copy to a corresponding or better edition of Windows Vista, but a clean install is required. For versions of Windows earlier than Windows 2000, upgrade copies are not available. These earlier versions of Windows require you to install a full copy of Windows Vista.

Easier, Faster Access to Information
Vista Ultimate features Windows Aero, a new interface that delivers higher levels of efficiency for any business user. This easy-to-use interface makes it a snap to navigate through the operating system and from application to application. Most importantly, Windows Aero helps you juggle multiple tasks at once by providing a three-dimensional, real-time, animated view of all your open applications and documents. And for those businesses that do work in other countries, Vista Ultimate supports all worldwide interface languages.

Breakthrough Windows Vista Experience
Designed to help you feel confident in your ability to view, find, and organize information and to control your computing experience, all editions of Windows Vista introduce a breakthrough user experience. The visual sophistication of Windows Vista helps streamline your computing experience by refining common window elements so you can better focus on the content on the screen rather than on how to access it. The desktop experience is more informative, intuitive, and helpful. And new tools bring better clarity to the information on your computer, so you can see what your files contain without opening them, find applications and files instantly, navigate efficiently among open windows, and use wizards and dialog boxes more confidently.

Work From Home
Vista Ultimate includes all of the features that make it easy to remotely connect to business networks. This means that when you're working from home, you'll have advanced networking capabilities, such as the ability to join a domain, support for Group Policy, and access to features such as Remote Desktop. Vista Ultimate also includes Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption that provides improved levels of protection against theft for your important business data whether you are at home, on the road, or in the office.

More Entertainment Options
Vista Ultimate delivers all of the entertainment features available in Vista Home Premium, and includes everything you need to enjoy the latest in digital photography, music, movies, analog TV, or even HDTV. Ultimate also has helpful tools such as Windows Photo Gallery and Windows Movie Maker to ensure that you have everything you need to collect, manage, and edit your digital content. It also includes Windows Media Center for turning your PC into an all-in-one home entertainment center.

Versatile Operation
Vista Ultimate truly lives up to its name by delivering all of the features both business and home users want and need. It is the ideal solution for both a small-business owner who wants a single PC that he or she can use at the office, on the road, and at home, and for someone who wants a home PC that will be used primarily for entertainment purposes but that can also be used for business purposes such as connecting to a corporate network.

4 Star Rating  "Vista is Working Fine for Me"2008-03-21

I have XP running on a bootcamp partition on my MacBook and it is doing just fine. I spend most of my working time in Word, hardly ever using any of the other programs in the Office suite. However, I use the Adobe products Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator a whole bunch. Other than that I play solitaire, watch videos and, of course, use both Explorer and Firefox when I go online. That's about it for me, software wise, and XP handles it all without fail, without crashing and without giving me any headaches.

And I will miss it when I upgrade to Vista, however my machine can handle the upgrade, so I'm giving it a try.

Okay, I like the look and feel of Vista, however it's not as snappy as XP or even System X. I like the AERO bit, quite snazzy and one of the reasons my machine runs a bit slower, I suspect, however I'm loath to turn it off as it's so cool.

Word works fine and that's to be expected. My Adobe software runs well too. The browsers, no problem. I did have to upload a printer driver, but that only took a few minutes and I was good to go.

I've read a lot of reviews by people who are having problems with Vista and I'm getting the SP1 upgrade any day and I'll instal it, but I'm not experiencing the problems others appear to be having. Maybe because it's because I only use four or five programs on my Machine. I don't use iTunes or Windows Media as I still listen to my CDs the old fashioned way and only then if I don't have the phonograph record.

The service I got from Amazon was great. I have an iMac, and the only reason I ordered Vista, is because there are still a few vendors out there that don't make their product for Mac, so Windows is a necessary Evil. I put Windows on my Mac hard drive just to run those few programs. Once the vendors make their product for Mac, then bye bye Windows.

Since micro soft support is an absolute joke, I'm left with only the option of telling the truth to the world. Hopefully you will tell everyone you know, as well. Micro soft (junk) vista is nasty. It is Very slow, it is very unstable, takes forever to boot up, takes for ever to load programs, and should be considered a Down-grade not an up-grade. DON"T WASTE YOUR MONEY. I had to install it 4 different times to get it to work. And my machine is pretty new with 4 gigs of ram, and dual Athlon CPUs. So don't waste your time or money. I'd give it zero stars if I could. And I am seriously considering taking microjunk to Small Claims Court.

As I keep hearing, Windows Vista Ultimate is a work in progress. Windows XP Professional is much cleaner and faster. I suppose if you have completely updated the maximum computer components (RAM & Video Card) it obviously should run much more smoothly. I have never had so many glitches and general "bugginess" in any previous Microsoft product. I recommend buying Vista if you "really" think you need it along with waiting until the first service pack release.

Vista is the ultimate rip-off. Does anyone disagree at this point? Who really wants to purchase Vista or Vista compatible products? The one positive effect for the consumer is that its helped drive down hardware prices. Don't laugh, but I think the failure of Vista may be one of the factors bringing on the recession. I mean, we can no longer fool ourselves into believing that we're making progress when computing is getting slower. Right? That "boy-genius" better get a brand new bag - and fast.

This product requires installing into a new notebook computer. The install went as planned and as expected. The delivery from Amazon was prompt. I especially liked being able to track it so that I could be home the day/hour it arrived.

I bought a brand new laptop with XP Pro on it. It had an AMD 64 X2 (dual core), 2 gigs a memory, a 120 GB harddrive and an ATI video card. I formatted the drive and did a fresh install of Vista. The laptop took over 5 minutes just to start up (versus under 2 for the XP Pro), and everything I did was s-l-o-w. MSWord was so slow I would type faster than it could put it on the screen, and I only type at 40-some words a minute on a good day, with lots of coffee, and the wind at my back. Opening Photoshop CS3... forget it: it crawled its way through every painful little thing I would ask it to do. Photoshop was constantly asking for more system memory. Opened Dreamweaver and PS together... no can do for I get the 'not enough memory' error. I tweaked the Photoshop memory allocation according to blogs and forums, but nothing worked.

So, I re-formatted the drive and installed XP Pro (no change in factory hardware or settings.) In XP, Office ran fine and so did Adobe's CS3. In fact, I could finally open more than three programs, something I could not do while Vista was running. Truth be told, when running XP I can have (and often do have) Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Firefox (with numerous tabs), and an FTP program open all at the same time, each tasked with open files and the standard 20-step undo selections.

I ran a little memory gauge with both programs (XP and Vista) and saw that Vista was using 1.1 GB of my 2 GB of memory just sitting idle! What for?! My XP Pro, without any tweaks, uses less than 500MB (.5 GB).

Vista just left a bad taste in my mouth and will remain on the shelf until I can no longer get support for XP. Then it is on to Linux/Mac.

I tried to upgrade from XP to Vista. I have a very powerful PC - 3GB and dual core processor and sufficient graphic card - but Vista only does about 90% of what it should be doing. Two major problems are after installing vista I can not deinstall firewalls and virus scanners that don't work under vista but that keep screwing up my system. Second big thing, I have two computer screens and the second screen is turned by 90 degrees. Vista does not like that at all. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DON'T INSTALL VISTA. IT IS NOT WORTH THE NIGTHMARE.

Be careful before you install this "anytime" upgrade. I installed it on a new Dell that came with Vista Home Premium on it and first of all, besides wiping out all my data files which it said it wouldn't do (I did have backups but still), wiping out drivers such as for the computer's speakers that it came with, it turns out that Dell will not help with ANYTHING because they say that I have voided the one year warranty by upgrading the OS from one version of Vista to another. It's probably in the fine print somewhere but it still seems that a more visible warning should have appeared courtesy of Microsoft OR Dell.
