| I bought this Garmin for my husband's birthday. He works as an inspector for the county, traveling on many back roads. He said it has helped him a lot. However it does take him at times on dirt roads when the next road would be paved. br /I found it very helpful to read these reviews as I was very conscious that we had an up to date map. I followed the prompts and was very pleased that the Garmin we recieved had a 2009 map. br / |

| I love this GPS - it is easy to use and with the traffic in LA surrounding areas this is a NECESSITY!! I bought it from an Independent Seller Brand new instead of one of the Official Logo got a GREAT deal, very happy. I recommend that if you buy look all the way to the bottom of that screen, past the Logo Sellers select an Independent Seller based on their RATING and PRICE!!!! |

| The Garmin nuvi 200 I purchased was refurbished. It works great and is super easy to use. Overall, it's an outstanding value for the money and I highly recommend it. The one downside is that the routing it gives you may not always be optimal, especially for long trips. However, this is a very basic model so this is just a small gripe. The way I use it is to go to Google Maps first and get my routing where I can see the big picture. During the first part of the trip I use Garmin's View Map as a orientation check; as I get closer to my destination I use the Go To feature which give me exact turn by turn directions. By using it this way, I am able to avoid odd routing. The other night I had to drop some kids off after a game in an unfamiliar neighborhood. It was dark and raining, and the streets were poorly lit and poorly marked. My Garmin worked like a charm and got me where I needed to go. |

| This is a really great value. I travel often to see my family and this just takes the stress out of the equation. It is so user friendly that it is a snap to use. The only other suggestion I would have is to order a wall plug charger at the same time that you order the nuvi. It's the perfect size for sticking in your carry on bag if you are flying. I am very well pleased with this purchase. |

"Nice little GPS" | 2008-09-14 |

This does help with finding new places, although maps/mapquest are still good to have. We found having the address helped, as looking up a restaurant meant sifting through lots of little ones and two defunct ones were at the same location as a new restaurant that didn't come up; the address got us there though. I also wondered at how some of the entries were put in, cryptic entries, initials, etc. that had me wondering if the unit had been returned or reconditioned, but I couldn't erase them so I guess not.
We got ours at Office Depot for a special price of $129 plus tax. We had no trouble getting the 2009 downloads for free online after registration, although we had to have the right cable to connect to the laptop (thanks to Dad, who'd salted away a useful phone cord). Trying to get a free mailed upgrade from a customer service rep might be subject to their individual knowledge.
It does not come with a case but we found the black slipin with pink inside at Walmart, great and I think they have it here for less, or the all-black version. We also bought a dashboard holder for $45 (also cheaper here I think) because we live in CA and they don't let you put it on the windshield. Easily transferable to our other vehicles using the holder.
I like it, but it can lead you astray and also take your attention from the road. It will recalculate if you go off course. We practiced using it some places we go to see what it would do (like taking us on three right turns instead of left to the Posey tube in Alameda) so we pretty much know what to expect. I'd recommend doing that to see how good it is. We were pleasantly surprised to have it navigate a new complicated interchange in Milpitas where mere humans often can't figure out which exit to take / lane to stay in. In the boonies it might be more interesting, but there you should have a map and a clue. And supplies.
We now put it in the mode where we see the next turn on the left side of the screen, but can read the next three on the right side - in big enough print to see & far enough in advance - otherwise we were told to turn left when we were stuck in the straight lane, we must have missed the small memo at the top which is hard to see while looking where you are going.
Overall good, but I like maps for exploring or trip travel, or detours - which it will do, but I'd like to see on a map. This little guy will keep you pointed in the right direction on a trip and come up with food, gas stations, etc. along the way, which is pretty cool. Also very handy when you know where the hotel is, but you're coming from a completely different direction.
Be sure you do not leave it in the car, or leave the holder, cord or suction cup/mark on the window visible; it's a target for thieves. |

| Although I am usually not directionally challenged I got this just to make finding new addresses easier. The set-up is so simple it is hardly a "set-up". Took it to look at colleges in LA. Never got lost and never felt nervous being in a strange (unfamiliar - lol) land. |

If you're not looking to spend a lot of money on a GPS unit and you just want the basics this will perform well for you. My first trip with this unit was a 550 mile drive from the Carolinas to Pennsylvania. I jumped in the car in the morning plugged in the address and away I went. It calculated the route within a reasonable amount of time and only lost the satellite signal when going through tunnels. There was one point in the trip when the unit went crazy "recalculating" over and over. Apparently, this unit ships with some out-of-date maps. Overall though, it's a solid buy for the money providing basic GPS functionality. |

| This, the most basic of Garmin GPS units, quickly navigates me to my destination. I don't miss turns, I don't get lost, I don't get frustrated. I bought this unit for $150 and it's some of the best money I've ever spent. Buy this unit if .... you've got another brand and it's hard to use, you don't need Bluetooth enabled speakerphone (noisy), you don't need the unit to speak street names (talks too much), you don't need maps that aren't included (Europe, Canada, Mexico, etc..), or you don't need live traffic updates (a subscription service). |
