| I already have 10 xbox 360 games and I luv the Elite console. I put a Turbo cooler fan on the back and I let the fan run for five minutes even after I turn the console off. This should extend the life of my Xbox 360 Elite. There's an abundance of cutting edge technology games being released in these next three or four months, so this was definately the right time to go Xbox 360. |

"Great console, nearly infinite entertainment at this point" | 2008-09-14 |

Games, games, games.
The Xbox 360 has the broadest selection of games and the most highly-rated, or AAA, titles. A quick look at Metacritic will point any core gamer in the right direction. Achievements are supported in every game and really add some fun/cohesion to the gaming experience. Many great titles are also heavily discounted at this point, and the Platinum Hits collection is certainly worth a look.
Xbox Live Arcade has an equivalent "Arcade Hits" program with great games at a low price. Puzzle Quest at $10 is worth a particular mention. The XBLA version is not only the best version of the game, but it is also the cheapest, as Puzzle Quest on the other platforms runs $20-$30. Even with the XBLA-exclusive expansion pack added-on, it will be under $20.
Casual gamers are worth a mention in regards to this console. From what I have observed, the 360 is very friendly to casual gamers as well. Puzzle games (such as the aforementioned Puzzle Quest), board games, and card games are all readily available on Xbox Live Arcade. They are cheap, fun, and great for casual gamers. Retail titles such as Viva Pinata and Banjo Kazooie are huge games that many people enjoy. The upcoming Xbox Live Primetime looks to be a boon for game show fans with the allurement of weekly shows and real-world prizes.
Media is another topic to examine. I personally consider this console a gaming machine first and foremost. It can be enjoyed to the fullest without ever watching a movie or TV show. However, media is certainly an added bonus and I have no doubt that many people use the 360 heavily for media purposes. There is a huge selection of movies, music videos, and TV shows on the Marketplace. The Netflix integration will provide thousands upon thousands of movies/TV shows available for watching any time, for free (with Netflix subscription of course - $8.95 per month), with no commercials.
Lastly, I will give a quick mention to the RRoD. I don't like having to mention it because the whole thing has been so overblown that it seems like I'll just be talking to a brick wall anyways. The RRoD has been a wonderful target for games journalists (to garner website hits) and especially rival console devotees ("fanboys"). The latter in particular love to perpetuate the RRoD to no end, posting comments about being on their "sixth" Xbox 360, or claiming that they know many people, all of which have had multiple failures. The actual situation is no where near as bleak as one might suppose from all the attention given to it. With the new chipsets there is only a very slim chance of experiencing a failure, and this would most likely be after at least a year. In such a case, let the 3 year warranty handle that and pay $0 for a smooth repair in which a prepaid box is shipped out to collect it. Also, perhaps 2 months after this review date, any consoles purchased will be the next chipset (Jasper), which will take the chance of RRoD down from maybe 3% to 0.001%.
In short: Buy the console, it is worth every penny, and won't be regretted. |

Got this and LOVE it.
The best and largest games selection of any current game system. Plenty of great cheaper games are also available.
No worries about hardware problems since the new Falcon design has replaced the older models.
I also love that I will be able to watch Netflix on my 360 starting this fall. That will be a great addition to the Xbox Video Marketplace that I already use to Buy and Rent TV/Movies right on my TV.
I love this machine. |

"Great console for gaming" | 2008-09-02 |

First off, let me say that I own both a Xbox 360 Elite and an 80gb PS3. I enjoy both consoles and am no way bias towards either.
The Xbox 360 Elite is a console specifically for gaming. I would not consider it a true multimedia device because it lacks so many things that the PS3 has. For example a true "HD video format" (such as Blu-ray). It lacks wireless connectivity to the internet without a $100 dollar attachment. And, it is truly hindered by Microsoft's lack of want for any third party peripherals.
For gaming, you can't get any better than this machine. It still has the best exclusives and has many more games than the PS3 in general. However, the PS3 is closing the gap and is starting to have some spectacular exclusives as well. With that being said, I still enjoy games better on my Xbox for a few reasons...
Xbox live: This is so much better than any online play system in any of the PS3's games. Yes, you do have to pay for Xbox live. But, buy for a year and it doesn't cost more than $40. Demos come out sooner on the Xbox, online matchmaking is simply better (more users, easier to find games, easier to play with friends, etc.)
Controller: This controller just feels better in my hands. I don't have particularly large or small hands. I'm pretty average for a 19 year old male. But, the controller contours to my hands and just fits. The weight is also just right. It doesn't feel like a feather, nor does it feel like an overly heavy, obtrusive brick. The D-pad is not as good as the PS3's however, Microsoft just came out with a new controller which does fix this problem. So my recommendation is to get the new controller.
Achievements: This is so small but something that the PS3 has yet to implement completely. Every game on the Xbox has what is referred to as "achievement points." What these are is little objectives in the various games that essential give you points. And, while they truly do nothing for you or add any special experience to the game, they do add re-playability to many games that I would have otherwise just let sit around.
With all of this being said, you really can't go wrong with either console. A few big things to pay attention to when deciding to choose one are:
-Exclusive game titles -What you plan on doing with the console (gaming, watching movies [Blu-ray?], online gaming, etc) -Cost |

| The XBox has proven to be everything I hoped it would be. I bought it for my 13-year-old grandson as a surprise. He absolutely loved it!!! I have never seen him love a gift so much. He played it and played it. He never wanted to go home. Now, he wants to take it home with him. I am contemplating letting him take the XBox home but then I won't have it here with me. |

| Even with all of the system failures since launch. The Xbox 360 is the best console for the money. The addition of HDMI and 120GB hard drive is just icing on the cake. I have had a couple older models brake on me, but that is just the risk you run as an early adopter of high end electronics. Customer service has been great and I have spent no money out of pocket on repairs. The Elite is a great purchase for any gamer that takes it seriously. Microsoft continues to have the best game selection and with Xbox Live they have the most complete online presence. For the record I own the other consoles as well. |

The Xbox 360 Elite was the second unit I purchased and despite a service return to Microsoft, I did receive a new unit and had no problems at the time of this review. The 120 GB hard drive and 30 feet wireless control use are plenty... the InterCooler unit was extra but I was encouraged to buy one. Every 360 game I purchased I was able to play and many of the original Xbox titles play well (Halo and Halo 2 are wonderful). I give 2 thumbs up for the `Elite. |
