| I got the Sony BDP300 for a steal at $199! It arrived from an online shop with a price tag at 199 but I had a gift certificate for $75 off as a Xmas gift. I paid just over $130 for it. Was holding out for a PS3 but there was only one game I wanted. This player arrived with the 3.90 firmware update.. I updated to 4.2 before I played my 1st BR disc. It took 2:47 to go from initial loading to copyright warning on Man on Fire BD to 1:03 on Phantom of the Opera. That is acceptable to me. My Samsung plasma has a max resolution of 720p/1080i which are pretty much the same. I watch it from 6ft away and the quality is insane. I cant comment on sound as I use the built in TV speakers. Image quality? Perfect! Very happy and the load times are manageable, esp for the price! |

| Super Blu Ray video reproduction. Good upconversion for standard DVD's. Via the Sony website I ordered the free firmware update disc and it arrived by mail only a few days later. No problems doing the update to 4.20. Yes, it is slower than a standard DVD player when loading discs. BIG DEAL! Also, this unit has a much more solid build and has far more features than the budget Magnavox/Sylvania (built by Funai) units now selling on the web. Another plus is that the warranty is 1 year parts AND labor, unlike many others which are only 90 days labor. So far I'm very happy with this SONY. |

"Great price, but lacks a lot." | 2008-09-22 |

| Excellent for the price, however this player lacks the new BD profiles, 1.1 and 2.0, which allow you to have picture-in-picture and web content. It also lacks DTS HD-MA (Master Audio) streaming and decoding, but it does support TrueHD.br /But if you don't care about the extras or HD audio, this is a great price for a basic Blu-ray player. I suggest, however, that if you want something with a bit more, keep looking. |

"My Sony Blu-Ray model BDP-S300 is a piece of junk" | 2008-09-22 |

| The player was purchased in February 2008. now, 8 months later, it displays "No Disc" and refuses to accept any kind of disc, including a new firmware disc. Think long and hard about buying one of these things. Sony support has been of no help whatsoever. |

"Just do the firmware update!!!!" | 2008-09-12 |

| This dvd player is just like every other one on the market. When you first use it you must do the updates!!!! This solved all of the problems and even improved loading speed. I played Pearl Harbor Blu-Ray (Incredible) and it only took 20 seconds to load!!!! If you have ever seen it then you know it is a good 3 hour movie. I think the best feature is the audio DRC which set to max created one the most explosive audio experiences I have ever seen. Also, with the audio set the dobly digital and dts to on, and not linear pcm, big difference. As for the video set the resolution to auto and 24p to on. This is the only way it works, do not manually set the resolution. I have used it a few times and I am satsified. More then anything $229 for a Sony Blu-Ray, New!!! You have to be crazy miss this deal. |
