I needed an air compressor to fill up the tires on my motorcycle and on my car. Ask yourself what you need it for.
I can tell you that for my needs I could do just as well with a $15 12v air compressor (the ones that plug into the cigarette lighter of your car). I purchased one of those after returning this Black and Decker item. And I can take a tire from 15 psi to 35 psi in under 5 minutes with the $15 12v air compressor.
So for this item which costs over 50 dollars for me it was major overkill. That being said the one that Amazon sent me was also defective and refused to power on after I finished one tire.
But regardless of that I can tell you that for most home consumers this thing is overkill and it really is loud as hell. I mean obnoxiously loud. I mean loud enough to anger your neighbors loud. Its TOO LOUD! |

| Head and shoulders above the first generation air pumps. Lightweight and not noisey at all. Dual voltage input power switchability is a real asset. Pumps pretty quickly it seems. Guage not very accurate. I interpolated a setting of 28 psi and it came out 24.5 by the digital air gauge. So never trust the built-in gauge - always double check with a good digital pressure gauge. Auto shut-off is a real boon. |

"My wife appreciates owning it more than I do..." | 2008-10-04 |

Does a good job. It's a bit noisy, has a short power cord, and imprecise dial to set the pressure you want, but it's easy to use, and always at hand.
My wife was so excited about not having to rely on gas stations, and remembering to do it before you get the tires hot, that she filled up the tires on her car herself. |

"Great for High PSI Van tires too!" | 2008-09-13 |

This automatic air pump had three jobs to make me happy: First, it had to inflate my wife's toyota's tires (32 psi). This tool makes it flawless, fast and easy. Also, it needed to inflate our mountain bike tires (50 psi). This device makes it outrageously easy and fast. Finally, it needed to fill the tires to both my vans (80 psi). This apparatus does the trick nicely. For all applications I need it for, the auto turn off makes the chore mindless and accurate. While it is fast for car and bicycle tires, it is a little more time consuming for my van tires which are big. Hence, the auto turn off comes to the rescue again. I just let it do its thing while I do my own thing. Just so you get an idea; bikes that are about 10-20 lbs low it takes about a minute per tire; cars that are 5-10 pounds low, I figure it takes about 2-3 minutes per tire and for van tires that are about 10-20 lbs too low it takes easily 5 minutes per tire and often more than that. Still, it does it, and this little dance I do with the air station sure beats going to the gas station, hoping the pump with the faulty built in gauge is working and taped up properly and sweating to beat the all too short timer that all too often cuts me off either a few pounds before I am finished or a whole tire too soon...phooey! This air station is a little loud, so make sure you don't use it too late at night or too early in the morning. It hums along and soon one gets used to the noise. Hope that helps, Michael |

"Good so far" | 2008-09-11 |

I've only used it once so far. I have three vehicles and check the tires in all of them at least once a month and my cheapie motorized air pump gave up a few weeks ago so looked around, saw the write-up on this one and sent for it. I've always had good luck with B&D products.
I hooked it up to house power and was pleasantly surprised how fast it pumped up the car tires. People talked about the excessive noise but it was a lot quieter than the one I had. I really like the auto shut off but the dial where you set it is very small so I try and set it for a pound or two above what I'm trying to reach as it's easier to let a little air out than hook the unit back up for 1 or 2 more pounds.
The only two very small gripes I have is that the house power cord is very short and the location of the AC-DC/ON-OFF power switch is in an inconvenient place.
So far so good. |

A great little product. It works well and is very easy to use. I don't agree with the reviews that complain about the short power cord. B&D knows you're probably going to use an extension cord unless they provide a power cord that is 25' long. Just not practicable. And not cost effective.
I found the gauge to be fairly accurate, but agree with others that you should check he pressure with a separate gauge.
I like his unit a lot. |

| So far so good. The dial in psi switch is off about 5psi according to my tire gauge. Otherwise, it works off both sources so I am satisfied. I just hope it stays in one piece. Right now, no reason to think it won't. |

Air Station
I bought this because I can't be exposed to sun light so I need to check and fill my car tires indoors. This is to be a garage tool. I filled 5 car tires from 25 to 35 pounds. I set the gage for 35 and plugged it in a wall socket and it filled all tires then shut off. I didn't check the DC function because I will only use this in my garage. It works as advertised. I am recommending this Black & Decker Air Station and I am giving it 4 stars.

The Black and Decker Air Station works great. My objective was to have a small easy to use pump to keep my bike and car tires inflated. The dual power source (120/12v) was a prime criteria for me. This allows me to inflate my bike tires in my garage without needing the car and also to have a pump I can keep in the car for emergency use. There are several pumps with this option but the feature that sold me was the automatic shut off on the pump. This works great, I can just set the pressure I want and not have to read the gauge while I am filling the tires. The pump is well designed, light weight and easy to use. The only dissapointment is the 120v cord is very short and I need to use an extension cord when using the house outlet. |
