I purchased this unit for personal use. I have used it to trouble shoot problems on a 1993 Lincoln Towncar: It worked perfectly and correctly diagnosed the problem - EGR. I corrected the problem and cleared the code. light has not returned. I had a little difficulty with 2 1995 Chevy Caprice's (Both OBD1)-one 4.3L and 5.7L the Tech support number was helpful and I was able to get it to pull up the SES Codes. (earlier year and different engine VIN code) TEch said it would not read an LT1 but I got it to pull codes. [EGR on one and driver's side O2 Sensor on the other - (Both correct diagnosis). I have also used to to read and clear codes on a 1996 Impala SS (Air Pump), and 2003 Silverado (EVAP System). So far I am very happy with this units functionality and ease of use. It offered the broadest coverage and functionality of any unit in this price range. AMAZON.COM also had the best deal I could find anywhere = (Approx 1/2 of list$) |

"misleading specs" | 2008-08-08 |

| Nice code scanner but nothing special. Missing some key data like ISC steps and fuel tank pressure. I bought this unit based on the specs stating it had bi-directional communications, which can only be found on very expensive professional scanners and is needed to complete the tests in the shop manual. The only thing it does is request initiation of an EVAP bay test. On my car it returns an error stating that my car does not support this test yet my factory shop manual clearly states that it does. So I still have a recurring check engine light that I have no other option than to spend hundreds if not thousands at the dealer. We purchase these devices as tools to be able to do our own repairs. This has been a very disappointing experience and I encourage all consumers to study very carefully what you need in such a device and thoroughly vet the specs before making a purchase. I will try to be complete about the capabilities of all the scanners I am about to sell on ebay. |

"Excellent OBD tool, but for knowledge people." | 2008-08-02 |

Excellent OBD tool, but for knowledge people.
This device wont fix your car, just gonna tell you "what happened" not "why?", and the "why" is what you need to fix it.
This is a OBDII tool with (some) OBDI support, if you think in this like a complete OBDII + OBDI system, it wont reach even 1 start.
The first think you should know and this is why I call this a good device for knowledge people, is that OBDI is really a mess, it wont give you as much information as OBDII even, with a much better device than this.
Another think you should know is that OBDII started from 1996 but some 1995 cars have OBDII too, and its probably the device wont work, maybe a little variation in the protocol.
The cable is really painful, if they don't want to change the design, include for free a USB adapter. The update doesn't show much more information, and there's not updates so often. |

"Works like a champ, no problems whatsoever" | 2008-06-14 |

I bought this for use with several cars: 1994 Lincoln Mark VIII, 2002 Chevy Astro Van, 2007 Honda Civic, 1988 Ford Mustang, 2003 Toyota Avalon, and a 1997 Mitsubishi Montero. That represents a good mix of OBD I and OBD II cars.
I found the OBD I functions to be a VAST improvement over the single-make only units I had before. Since I stink at counting beeps and flashes, a lot of user error is eliminated. It is also nice that the OBD I adapters use a long cord, since some of my cars have the connector mounted under the hood, which makes some tests and troubleshooting difficult.
OBD II functions are just as cool as you would expect, but I have yet to use the recording function, but I imagine its cool. I know my buddy has an Actron that locks up from time to time, this one has not locked up on me yet. The all-at-once screen and backlighing features are fantastic.
The software is very nice. It is simple and easy to use. I use an old Gateway Pentium III laptop running Windows 98SE with 288Megs of RAM, and it works like a champ. I did not see any information at all on what the minimum requirements are, but most of you will be running something newer/more powerful than my machine. The laptop is so old that it has a real serial port on the back of it, so no USB adapter was needed. Those who need a USB-to-Serial cable might want to consider getting an old used laptop instead, since the one I use was less than $30 on an auction site.
Others are having problems upgrading their software and firmware, but I had no such issues. Once I had the software installed I was able to update the software to version 1.33, restart, then update the firmware to 1.02. The software install took a few minutes, but the firmware update took over 15 minutes.
I am also impressed with the packaging of the unit. It comes in a cardboard box with a built-in handle and colorful slipcover, and inside the box are two nylon zippered carry cases, both of which can be zippered together so you keep all the parts together. The build quality of all of the parts is top notch, and the MASSIVE (tri-lingual) manual is easy to read. I am disappointed that no paper manual is included for the software.
Overall I am very happy with this unit, and am looking forward to using all of the extra features that I haven't gotten to yet.

I bought this with the intention of using it on a 95 Camaro LT1 engine. OBDI Advertising said it would work. Does not support that application. Then on my 94 Chrysler LHS. OBDI Not supported. 91 Plymouth Acclaim. Not supported. I'm sure it works well with OBDII applications which I will use soon but do not expect it to work with OBDI cars. |

Got this unit yesterday. Worked on both my OBD1 vehicles (Toyota and Ford) just fine. I was impressed with the extra tests for the OBD1 ford EEC.
Just beware those that buy this product, check the compatability with your vehicles before purchase, and update the software on the code reader.
Purchase a usb to serial plug also |
