Garmin nĂ¼vi 200W 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator Nuvi 200w craftsmanship is cheap compare to other higher Nuvi models. Touch screen sensitivity is frustrating, have to press hard enough to work. Worst thing is the dealer sent me a used model, a small paint scratch is noticeable on the seams and stain underneath the LCD display appeared after few weeks. |

"Overall good unit with some glitches" | 2009-05-31 |

Bought unit a week ago but have already returned it because the speaker was defective. Can compare unit to garmin c320 which I have had for a few years. Pros: Satellite tracking is much much faster (the old unit would sometimes take a couple of minutes, this unit seems to have the location by the time the system has started up); processor is also much faster (finds names in a fraction of the time and maps are drawn faster). Cons: Apart from the broken speaker, the unit doesn't seem to have an updated data base - even roads or stores that have been around for a few years are not to be found... Also, while the c320 had no difficulties finding our house, the 200w locates our house some 100 meters away from where it is (and our location has been around for about 50 years; it's not a new development)! Also, the unit gets the direction of travel wrong quite often, particularly when starting from a parking lot. Even in this one week I have gone the opposite direction three or four times! The power cable attachment is a bit problematic, too. In contrast to the old c320 you have to take out the cable each time. I also don't like the new graphics so much. The c320's graphics were super straightforward, the graphics in the 200w seem a bit more like in a videogame. Overall: Apart from the speaker I think this unit is quite useful but the database is remarkably outdated. Given the price point (I got it for $139) you can't really complain too much, though. |

I bought the Nuvi 200W as a basic automobile GPS, and it is. The mapping and directions work as well as any, and I have no complaints there. But Garmin and their support are terrible. The unit came with a "free upgrade" to a newer map, but the new map CAN'T BE INSTALLED, because the unit has too little memory (um, so why don't they have a map that can be installed?) I was able to install a subset map, but not one that covers both the Northeast and Northwest, the two areas I need. Garmin's written response was that I bought a low-end unit; true enough, but if they sell it, I expect them to support it.
Other annoyances include a EULA that you have to click or wait for every single time you turn on the unit. Very slow satellite syncing. Unchangable "abcde" keyboard, instead of "qwerty". Astonishingly slow USB updates (as in an HOUR to install a map).
All-in-all, I'm sorry that I bought a Garmin. |

| My husband and I are on the road a lot with our business and this has been such a time saver. We have only had it since December, but it has saved us so much time and confusion in getting to our destinations. It does not say the street names (only telling you right or left when you need to turn, etc.), but we did not find this to be a problem at all. No more MapQuest for us. :) |

"Won't hold entire USA" | 2009-02-09 |

I got the Nuvi 200W about a year ago and it has been perfect until now. It began showing a message that the 2008 map was outdated and should be updated to 2009. So I bought and downloaded the $70 2009 update. Upon installation, a menu said there was not enough room for the entire USA, and offered to install the East or the West half. I searched the FAQ and found the recommendation to make room on the 200W by deleting all the languages except English. I did that and it made no difference. Now I can't use the 200W from coast to coast.
Why sell the 200W if it won't hold the entire 2009 USA? Why sell the 2009 update without the warning that the USA won't all fit on the 200W? |

"Great GPS and cheap! Love teh widescreen!" | 2009-02-09 |

As I said below my Pioneer AVIC-N2 died on me, so I took this opportunity to upgrade because I wasn't really a hundred precent happy with the unit. For the GPS portion of my system I began researching mobile GPS devices. Long story short it looked to me that Garmin is doing the best job in this area. Only problem is that Garmin seems to make about 60 different units, all of which are very close in their feature set. I knew I wanted the Nuvi product line, and really wanted the wide screen so I would have the most screen real estate for viewing maps. I decided to go with the 200W (since I will only be using it in the US) and of course it had the widescreen.
On a side note, MINI sells a NUVI that is branded for MINI which gives you a MINI splash screen, as well as changing the little car icon into a MINI on screen. Doesn't change the way the unit works at all, but come on! it's just cool. So I went ahead and got the vehicle .SRF files and there is a link to them below so you can load MINI's into your non MINI branded unit if you have one. It is a very easy process, feel free to send me an email if you need help with it. Garmin Nuvi SRF (MINI)
As far as the Nuvi 200w goes, it is an amazing device! On to the pro's and cons.
PRO'S + Great tactile touch screen + Very accurate maps + Works with Mac OS X + 4-5 hours of continuous battery life + Ability to change the vehicle icons + Good overall size + Charges over standard USB cable
CONS - Honestly, I have yet to find a true con yet... - Would like longer battery life, but battery life is never enough is it? |

| The Garmin Nuvi 200 is even better with the 4.3 widescreen. This is the third portable Garmin I've owned, and all have been great, with the newest one even better, with out of the box usability, quick 1 minute setup, and good customization options. (Route choice/languages/hwy vs. tollways, etc) Battery life is very good at about 3.5 hours with a freshly charged one, and unlimited with 12v power of course. This model works great with a friction mount (a $35 option) Forget the suction cups...they fade and warp after about 6 months and auto thieves are always looking for those tell-tale suction cup marks to break in. The Garmins come with a nice security feature that looks out the functions at power off. You input a code on power on and use it normally then. But if stolen, the thief has a useless gadget! You don't have to use the security feature but I highly recommend it. About the only flaw with the Garmin is the long satellite lock on time. Sometimes it gets the satellites in 15-30 seconds, but it can just as easily take 2-3 minutes sometimes! It does have a very strong lock on once it gets the satellites though...I've never lost a signal on the road with it. |
