"SKYPE calls usually can't use touch-tone to respond to automated answering systems" | 2009-10-05 |

| This is a great land-line phone. As a Skype phone its not bad but certainly not perfect. When using SKYPE the phone is often incapable of producing touch-tone (DTMF) after the caller has answered. This makes keying in an account number or selecting an option impossible. Beyond this difficulty the phone is good. |

| I bought this skype phone two years ago for $100. Yes, $100. On Sept 29, 2009, it is now listed at $399. How is that even possible? I was just curious about the cost of adding an additional handset and saw price. I knew I didn't spend that much two years ago, but was amazed to see in my order history that I got it for $100. I have only used the phone sporadically, but it seems to function well enough (sound quality, stable connections...). Still, I can't fathom spending more than $100 for it. No way. |

I've been using the product for about a year, but it's in need of constant attention. I got this phone to call the next town over, because it's considered long distance. The in state long distance charges are crazy here, so I turned to skype out for a cheaper option.
Positives: The phone is easy to set up, and pretty much usable out of the box. I like how the batteries are just rechargeable AAAs, and are easily obtained from your local box store. I've saved a lot of money calling in state... When it works that is. The phone does have an attractive look and feel to it.
Negativities: This phone is always losing it's connection, and has to be reset. It always seems when I don't really need to make a call I have no issues, but when I have to make an important call it's gone down. If I don't have time to fiddle with it I end up using my home land-line, and eating the crazy in state charges. The call quality is always low. My iPod Touch 2G has better call quality then this phone does. It's not to uncommon for you to drop a call using this phone. Lastly, this phone is very susceptible to area noise. It picks up all background sound, and can make some conversations hard to understand. Rarely, does the touch tone work. I mean when you're asked to press 1. You can press 1 all day long, and it will not work. I can not do business on the phone that will require me to use the number pad during the call. This goes for land-line, or skype out.
I give this product only two stars out of five, because when it has done it's job. It's just not done it very well. I don't recommend this product for purchase. |

This was our ideal solution at the time. I am Scottish, my wife is Lebanese and we both live in California. Love Skype, persuaded so many family members to get on it, but it was a pain to leave the computer on all the time in case we got a call.
Loved the product for a few months. I should have known something was wrong when around 6 months after buying one phone and a base station, I looked for a second handset and saw Philips had discontinued this model and the only second handsets available were second hand, and at high prices.
I shouldn't have really, but I bought a second hand handset on Amazon. This lasted around 3 months then just died, it won't power up any more, no matter what batteries we put in it.
The original handset died after it was around 16 months old. We can hear the person on the other end when we get a skype in call, but they can't hear us.
Very frustrating. I've posted to the Skype forums, as frustratingly enough, there seems to be no new product like this on the market, and I certainly don't want to buy another second hand as my conjecture is that there was a fundamental flaw in these phones that somehow missed Philips's quality control. I'll update this post if I get any joy out of the Skype forums on if there is any new product like this around.
So please don't waste your money on these.

I'm going to make this a short review of the problems this phone has. I give it 3 stars and thats being generous.
These are the problems I notice with the phone after having used it for a year.
1) It lags going through the menus. 2) Often you will have to reset the box because the phone goes into not available/no service mode. after unplugging/plugging back in power cord about 5 mins later the phone is able to be used again. sometimes you will have to do this 5-10 times in a row to get it to work again, this makes me want to smash it to pieces and mail it back to skype with a link to the customer reviews on amazon! maybe then they will do something about the many problems this phone has. 3) People have told me numerous times when they call it says "the user is unavailable" only to have to call back up to four times before it will go to Voicemail. 4) When trying to make a call, it will say connecting and then all of a sudden go back to the main screen. Usually on the 2nd attempt to dial out it works fine. 5)Even though you have a number saved in the phone book, when that person calls it displays the number and not their name as it should. Also the last 2-3 numbers scroll because the phone cannot even display the 1+area code+number. 6) There are other problems with the phone menu as well, some bugs in the software which Skype needs to work on fixing asap
Generally the phone works good about 90% of the time i would say.
The design of the phone of Great, Its very sleek and nice looking.
The BEST FEATURE i like about this skype phone is that there is a setting that allows only people in your phone book to call you...NO TELEMARKETERS WILL BE ABLE TO CALL YOU EVER AGAIN!
Another thing I can't figure out is how the price of this phone is going up...I paid $180 for it a year ago, and that was with shipping i think.
If i could go back in time and buy it again, I wouldn't unless it was priced at $100. This phone has too many problems to be selling for over $200!!
