Editorial Review
With 80GB or 160GB of storage, iPod classic gives your music and video room to move. It also has plenty of energy (up to 40 hours of audio playback), good looks (a sleek, all-metal design), and a great personality (a brand-new interface with Cover Flow). In other words, iPod classic makes an ideal companion.

Cover Flow
If a picture says a thousand words, think of what all the album art in your collection might say. With Cover Flow on iPod classic, you can flip through your music to find the album you want to hear. Use the Click Wheel to browse music by album cover, then select an album to flip it over and see the track list.

TV Shows
There's always something good on iPod classic. Browse thousands of episodes of your favorite TV shows on the iTunes Store, buy them for just $1.99 each, then sync them to iPod classic. Watch last night's episodes this morning, or buy a whole TV series and play a pocket-size marathon.

Podcasts
The iTunes Store features thousands of free video and audio podcasts, including indie favorites and offerings from such big names as ABC News, Comedy Central, ESPN, PBS, NPR, and many more. Browse and subscribe to podcasts, then sync them to your iPod classic. You can even play video podcasts on TV using an optional Apple component or composite AV cable.

Audiobooks
The digital shelves of the iTunes Store are stocked with thousands of audiobooks--including exclusives like the entire Harry Potter series--so you can catch up on your reading wherever iPod classic takes you. iPod classic recognizes where you left off and bookmarks your place. You can even adjust the reading speed to suit you.

Games
Put hours of fun at your fingertips. iPod classic comes with three games--Vortex, iQuiz, and Klondike--and you can download more from the iTunes Store for $4.99 each. All iPod games are designed specifically for the iPod interface. And all of them look great on the 2.5-inch color display.

Lets face it - the iPod is the most accessorized product on the market. With gadgets galore - that is half the fun of having one - more so then the Creative Zen Vision I had. It has a great sound and is easy to carry around on the go. I don't personally like having to eject it through iTunes to remove it - but it really isn't a terribly long process. iTunes is great for purchasing music - the Genius sidebar that actually makes mixes for you based on what music you have is also great. In some cases, it isn't quite work like my brain is wired to expect it to (and I dare not call it "worse" or "better" then Windows Media player - I am just very familiar and like many things about it better). I also don't like how difficult it seems to move your music around from computer to computer (My Creative product, I could pull music off and on easily no matter if I was at my home or work computer) - iTunes seemily makes this difficult (though I understand the necessity of that for my purchased items). I still love the product and will likely stick with iPods for the rest of my purchasing life.

There have been a million reviews so I'll keep this short.br /br /It does everything the old version does, but it locks up every once in a while and will occasionally corrupt songs if iTunes has locked up during a synch. br /br /The most annoying thing would definitely have to be that trying to load this thing up with all your songs will take about 20 hours at minimum. I have over 200gb of songs and trying to load the 148gb that's available has taken me three days and 7 hours now and I'm only up to about 60 some odd Gig. Not sure if it's because it's searching for album art or using that new Genius feature, but it's SLOW.br /br /Other than that it does everything the old one did, and looks sharper. Of course we all know Apple would rather have it look cool and be gimmicky than cheap and functional. then again that's why people buy products like Iphones.

5 Star Rating  "Best Thing Since The CD Invention...The iPod is Revolutionary!"2008-09-19
- Reviewed By User: A103H2JKAP9UGK
All I can say is that I found my music collection again and then some...it even sounds better than what I remember. I don't know why others are having so many problems but I have 80+GB of mp3's and it's still growing. I'm guessing I'll have around 100GB of mp3's by the time I'm done organizing them. I have the majority of these on this iPod and do not have the problems others are stating here. Hummmm...Oh well, don't know. Mine works just fine and SOUNDS GREAT! The headphones are the BEST I've ever had! I don't know whether the iPod is re-sampling my music or whether it's the headphones, but this thing sounds pretty damn good! I can even make out lyrics that I never understood before...loving it! It puts my car stereo to shame. br /br /This is the first iPod I ever owned and just love it! It offers a lot and has all the features you need for a music lover; shuffle, podcasts, games, photos, to the nice bright and clear display. You know, the 3 features I like the most are the pause, shuffle, and touch handle wheel. If you pause a track it will stay paused FOREVER!!!...man, this is probably the BEST feature for sure...about time someone did that! I was so sick of CD's and other mp3 players starting my music over. Not here. If you pause a tune, turn it off, come back a week later to listen it's in the exact same place to the minute and second of where it left off.br /br /I'm from the tape, vinyl, and CD generation and it finally feels good to have my collection, family collection, friends collection, downloads, and everything all in one place. I'm re-discovering my music collection again! All those tapes, CDs, records, and albums sat in my boxes and other places for too many years collecting dust and now it's all in one "great sounding" compact place. That's revolutionary!br /br /Another reason I probably don't have any problems is because I JUST DON'T USE iTunes...I use other software to sync and load my mp3s, podcasts, and everything to my iPod. Give it a try if you have iTunes issues. I don't like iTunes myself...it's to clunky and annoying. It's very limited too. br /br /NO COMPLAINTS HERE...absolutely perfect product!!!!! It could be a little cheaper though, but I can't complain on that either because the price dropped $50 bucks since I bought it and Amazon was really good at refunding the price difference (which they do not do anymore - why did they get rid of the "Price Refund Guarantee"? Maybe they were losing too much money!?). But I have to compliment Amazon on this! Bring that back!br /br /I'd give this product 10 stars if I could and also give Amazon 10 stars for customer service which was very courteous, friendly, quick, and VERY REFRESHING for once in this day and age of crappy customer service...(those companies know who they are).br /br /I'll tell ya, if you are unsatisfied after getting one of these...go listen to an 8 track or tape system for awhile and you will never complain again! Or you will just have to do it like the "good ole' days" and listen to the whole album from beginning to end (not including flipping the tape over or fast forwarding to the one you want to hear again or listen to next...it was easier to just listen straight through); and would just get use to it. You're obviously spoiled. This machine is a real treat for those of us that listened to tapes, vinyl, and CDs for years! Cheers!

I was very angry to see that after a week I purchased this, the price dropped like $60, well, it happens, on the other hand I'm happy that I bought it before they stopped making them in apple, and make the 120gb instead(what the hell?, I hate these guys, don't understand why they do that, 160 was fine).

I tried transferring my music with itunes, but it was a mess, no cover art, it doesn't recognize folder.jpg as the cover, so in my opinion, it's a crappy program, it takes soooo much ram and for nothing, crashes all the time, well, I could go on forever telling you how much I hate this software.

Instead I used Winamp, and it worked perfectly, now I've got 130 gb of completely organized music, all with cover art, it took a bit longer than itunes, but it's definitely worth it

Long live winamp, f**k itunes and mac.

3 Star Rating  "A tremendous but greatly overpriced external FAT32 hard drive masquerading as an MP3 player."2008-09-16
- Reviewed By eyguy
Since this is a self powered USB drive, it is a superb but expensive choice to store important data if it becomes abruptly disconnected from a MAC or PC while reading, writing or transferring data the chances of mechanical failure are significantly less than if you were performing the same operation with an IDE disk in an unpowered USB adapter. Of course the abrupt disconnection doesn't eliminate the possible logical corruption or data loss.

The FAT32 file system is a drawback since it chokes on 4GB+ file sizes and larger files are more common since the FAT32 file system was invented by the "geniuses" at Microsoft (1996) when large media files and the applications capable of creating them were rare.

Repartioning the FAT32 file system into a smaller section and trying to create an extended or new NTFS partition is a great way to waste a weekend and should only be attempted after you've backed up or verified a replica of your song files since they'll be lost.

We wasted a weekend trying Partition Magic, GPart'd, Ghost disk utility trying to resize, or recreate the file system to accomodate an extra NTFS partition on this thing and we became highly skilled in restoring the OS repeatedly.

There is an older posting from a MAC guru on how to accomplish this using pdisk and MAC OS version of dd but this process seemed to require a MAC since pdisk isn't easily obtainable from the web.

------------------------------

There are 800+ reviews at the time of this writing and my two cents are this is an annoying MP3 / M4P music player because the iTunes software rewrites the titles to your MP3 and even the native iTunes MP4 files to a random four letter .mp3 or .mp4 filename buried inside a \iPod_Control\Music\F?? directory name.

This is annoying if you want to transfer your authorized or non-commercial MP3 files to another system from your iPod using traditional file explorer methods.

iTunes itself has an "export" feature that is unreliable and will sporadically error and do so inconsistently to make it difficult to troubleshoot.

OR, you can just waste 50% of your iPod disk space by using the normal iTunes song import method to load the iPod, then copy the files directly to the removable USB mounted file system in their native file name format.

Since song data is really stored in ID3 tags, you'll keep your song data whether or not you just bite the bullet and copy over all those nasty renamed four letter mp3 files.

GREAT TIP:: Copy the F?? directories to your Windows Media Player 10 or later version equipped PC, and use wmplayer.exe library rename features to rename the actual file names based on the ID3 tags and the RIP music settings and you can transfer / import your song files from your iPod w/o having to jack with iTunes.

DISCLAIMER: I dislike Microsoft even more than Apple and for different reasons, just because Microsoft is junk doesn't make Apple quality. I don't advocate or discourage Zunes since I don't own one or have used one. If given a chance to do either with a Zune, I'm sure I can find plenty of reasons to dislike it.
