It gets hot very quickly, but transferring is very easy. Just plug it into the USB. I heard that this HD dies out very quick, so I am always sure to click the power button on the HD when it gets hot. Most of the time, it is off ( I don't want to burn the HD out bc it has important information in it). It's a very good product for the price. But just be advised-- this is very important. YOU CANNOT TRANSFER A SINGLE FILE THAT IS >4 GIGS! I had to do this, and it took me several hours to figure out how to get a 4 gig file from one computer to the other. Most of you won't have this problem, but it is a warning. Also, for me, it is very easily compatibility with mac and PC. I use it for both, and there's no problem. Just plug it in. Also, nothing gets "deleted" or reset if you are wondering. All my files are there. |

| Bought this unit from Amazon July 23,2008. No problems yet. Have stuffed it into my laptop computer bag and hauled it through the gauntlet of Airport security and the tender ministrations of the baggage handlers twice since then. It still works fine. Not at all noisy or hot as some have reported. Am thinking of getting another Iomega like this one Iomega Select Desktop Hard Drive - Hard drive - 1 TB - external - 3.5" - Hi-Speed USB - buffer: 8 MB - black and reformatting as NTFS to store my DV video. However, as with ALL electromechanical devices, they eventually wear out or may develop issues. My reccomendation is to buy 2. One to use and one to backup onto daily that then gets turned off & stored safely. Dont depend upon 1 drive in constant use for critical backup. |

| ASIN: B000HI9O5W I BOUGHT THIS GREAT LITTLE EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE FROM AMAZON 14 MONTHS AGO AND IT'S RUN ERROR FREE EVER SINCE. I HAD TO MOVE INTO AN APARTMENT AND HAD TO SELL MY LARGE COLLECTION OF 3200 LPs SO THIS ITEM EASED THE PAIN QUITE A BIT. SO FAR, I'VE BEEN ABLE TO FIND AND STORE OVER A MONTH AND A HALF OF MY FAVORITE MUSIC PLUS A VOLUMINOUS PORTFOLIO OF PHOTOS AND HUNDREDS OF IMPORTANT FILES. BELIEVE IT OR NOT, I STILL HAVE 2/3 OF FREE SPACE LEFT. I'D RECOMMEND THIS IOMEGA PRODUCT TO ANYONE WHO'S CONTEMPLATING CREATING A BACKUP DISC. THIS IS JUST AS SAFE AND A HECK OF A LOT MORE FUN. |

AT FIRST: For a good 6 months, this thing was working just fine. I was quite pleased with it.
THEN: For absolutely no reason, my computer one day couldn't recognize it. I had been using it daily, so this was unusual. I brought it in to a local computer repair shop, to see if the connection was faulty. They took the back of it off, unfortunately, so the warranty was void. There were no problems with the connection, so they went on to try and recover the data. They called me the next day and told me that it was working just fine. The only problem was: it only needed to be reformatted. They asked if it had any data on it previously.
Yes, as a matter of fact, I did. A good 300 Gigs of media and work.
So they ran several data recovery programs, all of which failed. I was told that this data wipe was virtually impossible, so perhaps I received a faulty device. The guy suggested I take it to a lab to recover the data, but that would be costing as little as $1,000 dollars. This is not money I readily have. And even if I still had the warranty, I would be able to send it back to Iomega for a new one, but they DON'T do data recovery.
So here I am, without my data, searching for a new hard drive. I"m really upset about all of this, so I'm writing this as a warning to all of you: don't go through what I did. |

| I use this primarily for video, photo, and iTunes backups (scheduled weekly with Nero Back It UP), and have had zero problems with the unit. It does exactly what it is supposed to do. My only concern is that it sometimes gets a tad warm to the touch, but this has in no way affected its performance. Simply plug the USB cable into your computer, and voila, 500gb of storage at your fingertips! |
