"TV on your MAC"

I can't say enough good things about the Elgato 250 Plus. I'm using it with my analog cable and it works extremely well. The set up is quick and easy. The on screen TV guide is accurate and easy to use. I have a Mac so after I make a recording I drag the DV file into iMovie and easily edit out the commercials then burn it to a DVD. If I had to pick a nit I would like PIP (picture in a picture). This won't do it because you need a second tuner and it only has one.
"Does what it is supposed to do"

I bought this product to transfer analog video on TV (my baby's first ultrasound) to the computer to distribute to friends and family. I bought this version rather than the EyeTV Hybrid simply because I preferred the device to do the work, so I could multitask or watch TV while doing work and not worry about my mac slowing down or getting too hot. The products, both hardware and software, were easy to hook up to my computer after reading just a few lines of directions in the manual. It only took a few minutes to get my video player output showing up on my mac. The recording worked well with minimal loss in quality. There was a slight loss, but I do not think the loss was enough to warrant a poor review. Ultrasounds are a bit fuzzy anyway, and we were able to see pretty clearly everything we needed to on the video after the transfer. I also did some brief editing with the Eye TV software and it worked fine to cut out a piece of the video before the video player began to play. The interface was very easy to use and didn't require much experimenting to get it to work. I work a bit with iMovie and GarageBand for editing, and EyeTV's software was easy enough for simple cutting. It does not do any advanced editing. Overall, this does exactly what we hoped. It is allowing us to transfer analog videos to digital for distribution on-line. Excellent product. (It also came with Toast Basic, but I haven't used it.)
I bought this because el gato is Mac friendly and it seemed the perfect fit for my 24" AL iMac. The size is just right and the software now at v3 keeps getting better. Remote works well and is user friendly. Analog has been so-so because of Comcast and not the el gato tuner. Clear QAM is the real prize in this but you are at the mercy of the cable company which in my case is spotty. A better bet is to get a good indoor digital antenna which absolutely provides a top notch digital/HD signal for those times that your cable co. loses the QAM signal. I only wish el gato would make this with a cable card and then all of the encrypted non premium channels could be displayed. Since I have this on my desktop i don't want to have another cable box. The unit is pricy but then again el gato technical support is excellent and as I said earlier the software is top notch. The first unit I bought was defective and needed replacing and el gato staff were very helpful.
"Great product to complement your iMac"

Bought the Elgato EyeTV 250 Plus from J&R Music. Great service and great product. The design is sleek and looks great on your desk especially next to my iMac. The interface and picture quality is spectacular. I highly recommend this to anyone that wants to add a HDTV to your existing computer.
I want to recommend this I really do but I can't. The software is a pain to install. It gets really hot. I still can't seem to get more then a few minutes out of it before it cuts off and the Mac doesn't recognize it anymore. No I have not contacted tech support yet but why should I, it should be able to work out of the box. The company has other product I am sure are great but this one has let me down. I am still working with it but I don't feel confident about it.
I use this with a MacPro and Digital Cable. It performs as advertised, and the ability to record TV and automatically export to iPhone and Apple TV is worth the price alone. Use in conjunction with Titan TV remote scheduling, and you have in fact replicated Gen 3 TiVO, plus you can watch entire TV series on the iPhone or Apple TV without having to pay for the DVDs.
