I bought this thing intending to take my family's slides and put them onto DVD's for preservation and ease of handling. I copied 200 slides onto a memory card and copied the memory card onto a DVD with no problems and great speed. When I looked at the DVD, I found that none of the images were in order. I began looking for a way to correct this, and found none. I therefore contacted SONY and explained the situation. I told them that it's sort of silly to make a DVD of a vacation, for example, and then find all the images out of order.
Sony's answer via live chat was that this is what the unit is designed to do and there is no way to change it. Unfortunately, I've had this thing too long to ship it back.
It copys minidv tapes with no problems, as far as I can tell, but it really stinks for still images if you care at all about having them in order. I would recommend this to no one.

I was looking for a product to download my videos from my camcorder without having to use up space on my computer. I saw this product and was not sure at first but decided to purchase it and am so glad I did. It is extremely easy to use and the quality of the DVD is outstanding. I am very happy with my purchase and am sure you would be also. I have not used it yet to download pictures from my camera card but am sure it will be as easy as the video. The purchase price at Amazon.com was the best around. Very happy with this purchase.

Very easy to use...essentially, 'plug and play'
Burns DVD while you are recording, so you can 'finalize' the disc and hand it to the end user.

its a great product. works well. records in real time thats alittle bit of a downer. for the price a great deal. no problems
This is a nice unit and it works fine for copying over Firewire and USB for SD video. If also copies AVCHD (hi-def) video/audio via USB, but there is a big limitation. It will not copy AVCHD to dual-layer disks. Big problem because AVCHD takes up lots of space (a 120 G hard drive holds about 15 h of it), so you can see that a single layer DVD holds not a lot. If the proportions hold up, that means about 30 minutes for a single layer DVD. A dual layer would hold 2X that...much better!
Funny part is that Sony lets you record from the other inputs to dual layer disks, but the only way to record AVCHD is through the USB input. So the format that REALLY needs the dual layer disk, cannot use it.
