"Adobe photoshop Elements works great with Vista!" | 2008-10-06 |

| I was always happy with Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 on my older XP system. However it did not work at all when I got a new PC with Vista. I purchased 6.0 and it works beautifully with Windows Vista. Plus I feel the features are nicer than v3.0. 3.0 always seemed a bit quirky but dozens of little annoyances seem to have disappeared with this version. I do a lot of photo editing and this program works sweet! |

"Photoshop Elements 6 somewhat of a disappointment" | 2008-09-30 |

| Photoshop Elements 6 turned out to be a disappointment as compared to Photoshop Elements 4 as far as the photo editing part is concerned. br /br /There are some improvements in how the tools are accessed but the basic color scheme for which no changes were found under preferences have fonts that are too small and a fairly dark background which makes it difficult to see the down arrows on the pull down boxes. Missing is also the Open file icon where it can easily be accessed. The File pull down menu has been shifted to the right. Compared to other Windows software that is a deviance that annoys. Adobe would have done a lot better by not making these changes for the worse. |

"Great software with a price tag that makes you smile" | 2008-09-21 |

For what you pay, this is absolutely a bargain software. It's not short of functions at all. You have the option to learn all the advanced techniques depends on what you need it for. Although the album creater function is not important to me, plenty of people will find that valueable. There are two things I don't like are: 1) It did not come with a manual (it's still a good deal). 2) It only supports 16-bit color depth in some features (global editing). You will need to do so first and then convert to 8-bit mode for local changes to ensure the best quality output. |

It may be a fine product, or it may not be. It was sent to my old address by Amazon - my error, they said. It was supposed to be forwarded by someone to my new address in Utah. I haven't received it yet. BE CAREFUL with the 1-step ordering - it's so easy because they keep your credit card # on file. I didn't even realize I had finished ordering it without changing the address, but I wanted to finish the order the next morning. I found out that next morning via email that I had ordered it, but it was on its way to my old address. Amazon representatives haven't helped. BE CAREFUL - I will buy Elements 7 since I have waited so long anyway, but not from Amazon. |

| We have a PCI Sprint card. Sprint customer service was completely useless while we installed the router (they even told us the card would not be able to work with the router- WRONG). Airlink was only slightly less useless. After a few hours of frustration, my husband restarted the computers, disconnected the router, took out the card- and then put everything back together and- ta-dah- it started working! It's a little bit slower than having the card inserted in the desk top directly, but overall, we're pretty satisfied so far! It's MUCH cheaper than the alternatives! |

I had an unnatural aversion to Photoshop in the past, as it seemed to be a bit "snobbish", as in if you don't use PS you are an idiot. Well, maybe.
For almost 18 months, I have been using the state-of-the art (hah!) Pentax software that came with my camera. Although it is very clunky, and had a very frustrating interface with too much white space, I used it because it was free and did just about all I needed (not much), except dust-spotting. For that, I used now defunct (?) Firehand.com Ember, which is still my primary jpg viewer, though it was destructive.
After having read (again) the mostly good reviews for Elements, I downloaded the trial version. In the 10 minutes I looked at it, it appeared to be very nice, and had the "spot healing feature" which is what sold me (beyond the ability to process Pentax RAW files).
Now, I can adjust and process RAW into an image I can further modify or manipulate, level the horizon by simply drawing the horizon line, and clean up the dust spots non-destructively. And, it is a bit faster overall process, which is handy when you have 1,000 shots to process. You can do them in a batch with the same tweaks, or individually fine tune an image.
I do not use tags, so the Organizer side of things is of no interest to me. For others, it may be handy to find all your "flower" shots. Yo might have trouble importing them from earlier versions, though.
There are also some built-in methods for sharing pix (email, albums, etc), none of which appeal to me except possibly making basic slide shows, which seems simple enough.
As nearly everyone else mentions, the "quick start guide" really is only the very basics. Although there is on-line help and some normal program help, most people will want to get a book to go with the software. There were about 10 at my local store. I ended up with '...for Dummies' which is OK but not great.
It is easy to 'undo' changes you make, so many people can learn by experimenting with the features. If you already have editing software skills, it should be fairly straightforward.
Oh, I got V2.0 bundled with my scanner few years back, and I have been using that only for scanning. So, I sort of upgraded that in the process as well. I did have to update the Camera RAW plug-in to recognize the K20D files, though.
There are only a few minor drawbacks, such as the screen color which apparently can not be changed, but overall, I am happy with it. I feel like I am at least in the 20th century (sorry Pentax).

| Upgraded from 3.0 so I could have a VISTA certified product. This program installed with no problems and works well. It has new features that seem to simplify my editing. I do not know what all the complaining about the gray screen is about. It is not a problem on a good monitor to read the text or see the icons. |

"Looking forward to PSE 7" | 2008-09-12 |

I've been a PSE user since version 2 and have to agree with a lot of other folks who are not happy.
While I have to admit that the new features are nice enough, I get program crashes far too often. I'm not using Vista either. I'm using XP which has proven reliable with every other piece of software I've used including PSE 5.
I really resent companies that make their customers the beta testers and Adobe has certainly done that here.
Instead of pre-ordering PSE 7 as I did with PSE 6, I will be waiting to see the reviews. |
