"It's small, cheap, and plenty for small apartment users." | 2009-10-06 |

So I moved to a much smaller apartment with thin as hell walls. I had to ditch my uber home theater gear in favor of more room and neighbor friendly products. I had already snagged the Polk sats for a smoking deal locally, but needed some subtle bottom fill. Enter the Polk 10".
Like most I read the reviews of the cheaper model and the pricier ones. Having experience and knowing how to interpret online reviews I went with this one. It's exactly as I expected, maybe a tad larger than I hoped, but that's it.
I set it up and let my Yamaha do it's auto calibrate. I did this with the sub set to 50% volume (using LFE input too). When it was done I gave it a listen. For the volumes I can use safely play in my place, movies and music sounded great. Plenty of low end grunt for both.
For everyday use I set the sub level down to 25% to truly achieve a non floor vibrating subtle low end fill. No complaints yet and it's not any louder than any of my neighbors jam gear. Again, no vibration into the floor and when walking all over the apartment as well as outside I wasn't hearing any of the long standing waves pummeling the air.
Quite happy with this budget, low power bachelor life subwoofer. |

"A great sub at a great price" | 2009-08-28 |

| This is a great sub. Great with both movies (BOOM!) and music (tight). But you have to dial it in! Take some time, read your receiver and speaker manuals, do your homework. It has to be adjusted for your system. Also give it a week or so to break in - many have reported this sub becomes bassier and more responsive with a little time. I paired this with a set of Polk TSi300 towers and couldn't be happier with the result. Looks awesome too - very well designed. |

"Solid Performer" | 2009-05-28 |

Pro: I did a lot of research and read dozens of reviews before selecting this smart, little subwoofer, comparing it to the slightly smaller PSW 111, the PSW 125, Klipsch, and Velodyne's entry to mid-level speakers. My theatre room is 12 x 25 x 8, and after listening to it side by side at our local BestBuy, I felt this sub had terrific sound and clarity. I was right! It easily pulls off the tough job of working as a home theatre sub and music performer - clear, punchy bass lines and bone rattling low end sound effects; helicopters sound real life and you can feel the explosions! I did, however, have to spend about 10 hours worth of playing time breaking it in before getting the best sound out of it. At first it sounded a little muddy in the very lows. Playing with room placement and crossover settings helped a great deal; I have a solid performer enhancing my home theatre system. Given I found this sub for $165 on sale makes it one of the finds for the year in my book.
Con: Two things - 1) It would have been great to have the led light mounted on the front of the speaker rather than on the back. 2)R.C. (remote control!) Though it is probably considered an entry level sub, having the ability to manipulate adjustments, which are located on the back of the unit, would make working out settings a whole lot easier. Small thing, yes, but having to reach behind the unit, straining to see the knobs in order to make adjustments is a pain, especially given the sub's weight. And having the led light on the front is cosmetic but really looks cool.
Those two things aside, if you have at least a moderately large size room, you can't really go wrong with the Polk 110. |

"Good value sub" | 2009-04-20 |

This is not the best sub ever made. There are better subs out there. That said, I don't know if I've ever heard a better sounding 10" sub costing only $200.
Note: This thing seemed dead for the first few hours I owned it. I was contemplating sending it back but decided to see if perhaps it wasn't just an issue getting used to a new sub. I'm glad I didn't return it because it came alive soon thereafter. I am not one to advocate breaking in electronics equipment, but give the PSW110 some seasoning time. |
