We have a 6 year old blue heeler and we were never able to conquer her inevitable shedding. In the spring, she would shed tuffs of fur and this fall, I think she was going through a complete change of coat. We just received our furminator and for the first time, my husband said: "this is what she needs". mostly, he never agrees with anything I buy, but this time I was pleasantly surprised. We used the brush immediately and it worked wonders. The clumps of fur that came out was amazing and I just kept thinking that those clumps will not be in my house! Now, it's up to us to maintain the weekly brushings and keep the fur clumps out of the house!

The FURminator is one of the best investments we've ever made for grooming our pets. I purchased this after using it at an animal shelter I volunteer for. I was impressed with the FURminator when I used it and the shelter staff raved about it. We purchased the FURminator for dogs, as we have a couple of Shih Tzus who need daily brushing to prevent matting. They have the dense, wiry, thick coats that can get matted close to the skin, and this product works like a champ to keep their coats smooth and tangle-free when used on a daily basis. We also have several short hair cats, and the cat FURminator works very well for their grooming needs. It works quickly and efficiently to pull out the excess fur and stimulate the coat and the skin underneath. All our pets enjoy it when we brush them with the FURminator. As to the quality of the product, the FURminator appears to be well-constructed and durable, and is easy to hold and use.

The Furminator is probably the greatest tool ever made. We have 4 labs and the hair can be unmanageable. This tool lets us take off so much dead hair, we can fill a garbage bag in one day. The more hair we take off when grooming, the less we have to sweep up later. I would recommend this tool to anyone who has a pet. The large size is adequate for even the biggest dogs. A+!

I bought one of these shortly after adopting an old dog from the pound. Keller (the poor old girl) was a mess. Heartworms, broken tail, mostly deaf, partly blind, and sad. Her coat was a mess. I doubt she'd ever really been brushed before, actually. When we got her, she had tufts of undercoat sticking out (you could lightly pull them and get a wad of fur) and her fur was just dull and felt wrong. My husband and I were also having allergen issues with her, something we've never had with any of our dogs before. Even after a bath and brushing with a shedding tool, her coat was a mess. On a friend's advice, I bought the medium FURminator.
The first night I used it, I got most of a plastic grocery bag of fur off of her. (This was in January, so I quit when I got to the point where I couldn't take the static electricity any more. I was plastered with dog hair - not the brush's fault!) I brushed her every other night for about week. Her coat improved drastically. It took about two more months (and two more baths), but my husband and I no longer get rashes after petting her. Our vet said she looked like a different dog! (Keller ignored us and our other dog for the first couple of months we had her. She turned 15 in April and now behaves like a normal dog - she plays, barks, and lets us love on her.)
I have a beagle mix, too, with shorter hair. Tippy doesn't have the major undercoat that Keller has, but I use the FURminator on her as well. The hard part is keeping her from rolling over because she wants me to use it on her tummy. Tippy's got spots on her back legs that shed a lot and it works wonders there.
I only wish I'd had this product when we had our Labrador! I could spend a week brushing her with a regular dog brush and not get half the fur off that I could in 10 minutes with the FURminator.
It's probably not the best for a dog with a single coat (like smooth coat terriers), but I highly recommend this to anyone who has a dog with a double coat.
