"BEST PHONE ON THE PLANET!" | 2008-04-28 |

| the nokia n95 8gb is by far the best phone on the planet right now. sure in a year or so something else will come out and beat it but for now, this is the best. why do i say that? because this phone is more concerned with productivity rather than "neat" gadgets inside. i can get my work done, be entertained and draw stares all at the same time, with this phone. the phone is sexy, it has power and features out the wazoo. the camera itself made me sell my canon elph off. i use the camera and video all the time. the wifi is awesome on this giant screen, the gps i've actually used a million times to find my way around washington d.c. its excellent. the gps has hotspots so you can find nearby airports, malls, restaurants, movie theatres, etc. i have to go to work now so i don't have time to write all this good stuff. but you get the drift, you won't be disappointed. |

So I've been eyeing this phone for well over 4 months now. I've researched it until I was blue in the face. My first impression of the phone was "Wow...it's a little bit chunky." My second impression of the phone after it arrived on my doorstep was "Wow...it's not as chunky as I remember. It's...it's rather sexy." Alright, to be fair. I'm sure that by now you've read all the specs and have them memorized. The camera rocks. I'm still toying with the settings of the pictures themselves when I try to upload them online through iphoto. The quality of the pictures are very good. Video is great. I need to use both camera and video camera frequently so this phone worked out perfectly. As far as the other functionality. I keep finding little quirks that irk me and other quirks that make this phone endearing. At first I thought the music player buttons useless as the music interface is easier to operate through the d-pad. However, if you are not in the main music player application and your focus is on the main screen, then you can still skip songs and such through those buttons. Very handy indeed.
The applications that come with are quite handy. The fact that you can read both pdfs and word docs is uber handy when I don't want to print stuff up or haul my laptop around. Setting songs as ringtones or pictures as wallpapers is very easy and intuitive.
The calendar application works very well and I depend on it heavily. The address book and calendar sync amazingly well with my macbook. I have yet to try to sync it with my pc as my desktop's been down for a little bit but I will follow up on this review once I do. A lot of phone sync software is biased towards Windows, however, don't fret cuz Nokia's got a file transfer program that works rather well with iTunes and iPhoto. In order to sync your phone with your iCal and address book it's even easier because you just need to set up your phone and macbook to talk to each other via bluetooth and after that just run the iSync program and you're GTG (good to go).
Now for some more stuff that specs won't tell you. The black looks hot. The speakers kick some serious butt. The top is a shiny black surface but it seems that the very very top of the phone near the second camera, there's a little bit of wear from me taking it in and out of my pocket at such a high frequency...especially when I'm wearing jeans. My sim card plopped right in and worked from the get go. Despite its thickness, it fits comfortably in my pockets...even with jeans.
Your friends will mistakenly assume this phone is touch screen. Warn them before showing them. This will drive you mad because the world has been brainwashed.

I have had several Nokia phones 6600,6620 and N75 all were good but the N95 8G has it all and works well from differnt conection opptions, Maps and Media. The N75 I often hit buttons and activated functions just takeing it out of the case. The N95 8G all keys are lock until you unlock it or slide it open. I won't need a new phone with new opptions for years. If it could cook .......?

Love it, love it, love it. Beats the iPhone hands down as far as versatility and power. If you are a text junkie...maybe it's not your thing due to the lack of an incorporated keyboard. But the memory, speed, internet accessibilty and wealth of applications makes it the ultimate pimp phone. My only drawbacks were being worried about dropping it or breaking it due to the price tag. The camera is exceptional except for the lag from pressing the shutter button to the time it snaps the photo. Slight pause there.
And it does go through a fully charged battery like a crackhead goes through 10 bucks.
But still, very satisfied. Love it. |

I've used the n95 8gb for about one month and haven't yet managed to take advantage of all of its features. One reason for this is that the device can really do a lot but in addition, I find that it is difficult to get support and information about how to set up and use functions connected with WLAN, and the Internet and such functions connected with third party providers such as Internet or Skype calling.
The phone has performed satisfactorily and I'm basically satisfied but I'm a bit puzzled by the absence of a few simple items which I took for granted. For example: 1)There is no timer anywhere in the alarm clock function. 2)The time a message arrives is not noted together with the message, one must make a few additional clicks to get this information. Other details I miss compared to my 3 year old former phone: 1)The time is not legibly displayed nor is it apparent if there are unread messages waiting by glancing at the display, you have to open it up to see anything. 2)The photo format connected with a contact is uselessly small. 3)It seems not to be possible to delete all read and/or sent messages with one click 4)The software for exchanging data with a PC particularly regarding synchronizing music files is a little problematic. Bottom line: Buy the phone if you really need some its features that your present phone doesn't have. |
