RSMedia works just as advertised. Walking is a bit difficult and the software will not work on Vista Operating systems. Other than that it works perfect.

I bought this robot for my nine year old. My fourteen year old helped me get the robot ready for christmas. He was so into the robot he wanted to know why he didn't get one too.
"A lot of fun and a great value if you can wait for the sale price"

Excellent value if you wait for the sale price (a mere fraction of the original 2006 price). You can program this robot to do various tasks including "guard duty", "roaming" and recognizing primary colors and taking a picture right out of the box. But the real fun starts when you learn how to hack into its embedded Linux and discover how to create your own programs in Java, C, and shell script.
Takes VGA pictures and records audio (mp3) and video (mpeg4). Has audio, ifrared, and touch sensors plus USB port and SD card slot for more personalities and extended programming. Adding new personalities - available for download at several robosapien enthusiast websites - made him a lot more interesting esp the cylon version. If you track down the RS Media SDK maybe you can learn to develop your own Jave code.
It is worth noting that you can use the included AC adapter while exchanging data with the robot over USB. But when he's walking around he eats batteries - 6 "D" cells and 4 "AA" plus another 3 "AA" for the remote control. You can buy cases of batteries wholesale if you look around.
IMO this is not for little children or for the rank beginner (unless you just want a big overpriced remote control toy). I sincerely doubt this robot would survive rough play by your average 8 year old. Regardless of the manufacturer 's 8+ age suggestion I feel this item is aimed squarely at the Linux hacker or hobby robot enthusiast market age 12 and up.
Well not much to add previous posters have listed all the great features. But the robot has an embedded Linux kernel and is Java powered! Now there isn't many Sun Java development kits for the RS Media floating around but they are out there, and there has been a promise of more to be released. In any case its nice to know that its there, and there has been some great hacking going on at getting to the Linux at robocommunity.com. One other thing not stressed here is the impressive sound(thanks to onboard subwoofer) this thing puts out. The PC editing software is also rather nice but still needs some tweaking. In any case its a robot that has some growth potential and usefulness(MP3's pictures, videos etc). It also has the luxury of conforming to whatever personality you create, so for these reasons it shouldnt end up as another toy robot that gets put on the shelf.

Product is fine though only drawback I had was the USB 1.1 connector cable for hooking to the computer. I found it easier to use the SD 1GB Memory Card, once the robot had setup the directory on the card, in my USB SD card reader to send data to and from the memory card rather than using the provided USB cable which was slow and unreliable. I have loaded and played with several new 'personalities' for my RS Media ranging from a Battlestar Gallactica Cylon to Bugs Bunny with hilarious and fun results.
