GoSale Description
Three years ago, Amazon set out to design and build an entirely new class of device - a convenient, portable reading device with the ability to wirelessly download books, blogs, magazines, and newspapers. The result is Amazon Kindle.

Amazon designed Kindle to provide an exceptional reading experience. Thanks to electronic paper, a revolutionary new display technology, reading Kindle's screen is as sharp and natural as reading ink on paper- and nothing like the strain and glare of a computer screen. Kindle is also easy on the fingertips. It never becomes hot and is designed for ambidextrous use so both "lefties" and "righties" can read comfortably at any angle for long periods of time.

Amazon wanted Kindle to be completely mobile and simple to use for everyone, so we made it wireless. No PC and no syncing needed. Using the same 3G network as advanced cell phones, we deliver your content using our own wireless delivery system, Amazon Whispernet. Unlike WiFi, you'll never need to locate a hotspot. There are no confusing service plans, yearly contracts, or monthly wireless bills - we take care of the hassles so you can just read.

With Whispernet, you can be anywhere, think of a book, and get it in one minute. Similarly, your content automatically comes to you, wherever you are. Newspaper subscriptions are delivered wirelessly each morning. Most magazines arrive before they hit newsstands. Haven't read the book for tomorrow night's book club? Get it in a minute. Finished your book in the airport? Download the sequel while you board the plane. Whether you're in the mood for something serious or hilarious, lighthearted or studious, Kindle delivers your spontaneous reading choices on demand.

And because we know you can't judge a book by its cover, Kindle lets you download and read the beginning of books for free. This way, you can try it out - if you like it, simply buy and download with 1-Click, right from your Kindle, and continue reading. Want to try a newspaper as well? All newspaper subscriptions start with a risk-free two-week trial.

Kindle's paperback size and expandable memory let you travel light with your library. With the freedom to download what you want, when you want, we hope you'll never again find yourself stuck without a great read.

We're very proud to introduce Amazon Kindle and we hope you like it as much as we do.

Price alone makes you stop and wonder - a lot of us can't afford $423 with tax for a book no matter how useful and worthwhile it would be.

I have a Sony Ebook and am wanting something that you don't need hook up for but the only way I can get one is if Santa really loves me or until prices drop.

If only you agree to buy so many books over a period of say 2 years the book becomes yours - I know many, many, many would buy at that rate.

I am an avid reader and buy literally dozens of books each year. A good portion of those books are purchased online thru Amazon. I noticed a few months ago that I was running out of storage space in my house, so rather than cut back on my reading, I decided to purchase a Kindle. It has turned out to be one of my best purchases ever! I love the ease of use and the flexibility that the Kindle gives me. Its' compact size and weight lets me carry it everywhere. The ability to download books at a moment's notice is fantastic! Whispernet is great! I have already read about 10 books on the Kindle and absolutely LOVE IT! The only 'real' books I will purchase now will be hardcover collectibles.

A couple of cons:
1) the cover provided with the Kindle did not work for me, I was very afraid of dropping my $350 toy. Another corner strap (such as on the M-Edge cover) would be useful. ALSO, and this is a biggie - ADD A HOLE ON THE BACK SO THAT THE SWITCHES ARE ACCESSIBLE. I ended up buying the M-Edge cover and making my own hole on the back with a boxcutter. Works great because I don't have to keep removing the cover to turn it on or off!
2) Amazon should get more small local papers online. My local paper is not available and I would subscribe to it if I could.

The Kindle had proven to be an excellent reading device with only a few minor glitches - nothing major - and is to be expected with a first generation device like this.

The thing that has impressed me most about it is the fact that it has made reading a fun, easier, more integral part of my everyday life again. Reason being, I have only ever purchased books by authors that I truly know and love. I never cared to spend money on books by unknown authors, mainly because I didn't want the books laying around cluttering up the house, or being detrimental to the environment due to all of the paper used to make them in the first place. Now, I can purchase Kindle books by authors I'm not familar with and try them out so to speak without ending up with a lot of books on the shelf that take up space, never get read, and end up being nothing more then a waste of paper.

We've recently gone to purchasing downloaded music only in order to help save us from having piles of CD's to lug around and store, as well as using up so much plastic for the materials to make them. And now, with the Kindle, we can download all the books we want and not only help our storage problem, but help the environment as well by saving on paper.

For me, it's a win win situation. And besides, this is where our society is heading in the long run - to an "All Digital" format on pretty much everything we use like this. Might as well get used to it now rather then later. :)

I received my Kindle as a gift for my anniversary. I commute everyday and it's so great not to have to carry around a bunch of heavy books. Everything I want to read is self contained.

We also just got back from an vacation in Vegas and while waiting at the airport for our flights and sitting for a long time on the plane it was very handy. No more taking books on vacation, all I need is my Kindle.

I am an avid reader. The Kindle has exceeded every expectation. The display is clear and easy to read. It keeps track of where I am in each book. The ability to jump to footnotes and back to the right place in the book is a plus. The Whispernet is fast and reliable and the book prices are on trget. My only complaint is that Amazon has mede this so easy that I am much more likely to buy books. Good job!

First off we 'love' our Kindle - and it's great to 'share' so my wife and I can both read separate books without trying to find where we each left off - the Kindle does it automatically. Second - we had a technical problem in month 8 and Amazon 'instantly' replaced the entire unit without question. Thanks!

I adore my new Kindle. It feels good in my hands and is very simple to use. They have also made it easy to make suggestions and have indicated they plan to continue upgrades.
Pro - 1.Easy to download 2.Easy to read (with instant change of font size)3. Easy to maneuver 4.Easy to notify the publisher you want it for Kindle so they can start to make more available.
Con - 1. Limited books to download but they are working on it. So far, it is the Bestsellers and Classics. I want a foreign language dictionary but one is not available yet. 2. Limited ways to organize your purchases.

5 Star Rating  "Kindle really surprised me"2008-09-15
- Reviewed By User: AM9F9KYPBKKWU
I researched for a month prior to purchasing my Kindle: I wanted to read both positive, negative, and mediocre reviews, from people who had obviously spent a lot of time with their Kindles, and had put a great deal of thought in to their review. Before I got mine, I had not actually seen a Kindle other than online.

The Kindle turned out to be far, far better than the reviews had led me to expect. I was surprised that it turned out to be a solid 5 star device: it is absolutely FABULOUS! I love it!

There are already plenty of reviews detailing the Kindle's pros and cons, so I won't duplicate them here.

Suffice it to say, the only con that I agree with is that there needs to be a lot more books published for it. The existing set that's available (174,023 as I write this) might seem like a large number, but in fact the content availability is still extremely weak. Fortunately, this will continue to improve with time, and hopefully in the not too distant future, will become an almost non-issue.

After hemming and hawing for over a year, I finally bought myself a Kindle. The reviews I had read were more positive than negative, and although I considered waiting for the "second generation" Kindle to hit the market, life is short. So, now I have it and I absolutely love it! The screen is terrific and I like the changeable font feature. The dictionary look-up feature is quick and easy to use, and the unit itself is very light in weight and small in size - truly portable. I travel all the time so it's terrific to have a dozen or so books awaiting my pleasure. My only suggestion for improvement would be to make the Kindle a little bit larger, or reduce the size of the page advancement bars so that there is more room to actually hold the unit without inadvertently hitting page forward or previous page. This is a small complaint, however, and I have learned to cope. I'm delighted I didn't wait any longer to purchase my Kindle. My only problem now is to curb my desire to buy 5 new books a week!Kindle: Amazon's Wireless Reading Device

4 Star Rating  "Fantastic device with a few rough edges"2008-09-15
- Reviewed By User: A1UYEE5XX9LKKQ
I've owned my Kindle for about 6 months now and I can honestly say I'd hate to be without it. It's so simple to use I'm betting my wife could even figure it out (just kidding you whackos). I have to laugh at the reviews that say it doesn't do this and it doesn't do that as if every electronic device must exploit every opportunity in order to reach its full potential. That's just plain wrong. Amazon got it right when they decided Kindle would be about reading, and only about reading.

It's not perfect and many of the comments about the physical design are on the mark. I use it every day and I still press the forward and previous buttons inadvertantly at times. I suppose no matter what they did this might happen, but with the current design it's BOUND to happen, so improvement is definately possible. I would have gone 5 stars but for this minor irritation.

I love the fact I can take as many books as I want on vacation with me and only have to pack my Kindle to do it. I've sent documents I need to review to my Kindle and saved the hassle of dragging my PC out for every little thing. I don't have to back up my Kindle because Amazon does that for me. When I want to buy a book I can do so quickly and easily from practically anywhere (although I do miss my trips to the book store.)

If you read a lot you should definately own a Kindle.
