|Many other reviewers have given details, so let us simply say that we loved ours until we replaced it with the latest model, the 120. No, it's not perfect: it can be smelly if poop is processed (latest model is better at avoiding this;) we consider the unscented SaniSolution a necessity; and the litter scatter is very annoying, but given the alternatives, we consider it a worthwhile investment that makes both human and feline members of our household very happy.

Background: I have 2 cats (1 male 1 female), and I have tried all kinds of litter, Auto scooping (could not handle the cats poop what a mess!), as for potty training well for the female cat this worked but the male cat no luck he hated sitting on the toilet, after 3 months of trying and cleaning his mess I settled on scooper able-flushable litter that was spending 40 a month on litter¡K and I hated scooping and what a stink daily cleaning and what a mess, they drink and pee a lot . (It was next to my bed room and I could smell... and wow I hated it.) Also I was afraid to have people upstairs to use the guest bathroom (it was called the cat bathroom by friends).
As for install: It was so easy! First off I hard plumbed the Genie to my sink with an additional 4 dollar part at the hardware store, and it took me a total of 30 min from start to finish doing all the assembly from un-boxing to plumbing, I did this due to the layout of the bathroom and wanted to keep the toilet for people. All the hoses are hidden in the sink cabinet and it looks like a mini kitty toilet (renamed form genie to kitty toilet by friends) in my guest bathroom now. So now it has 2 toilets (Kitty and Human) º
As for the cleaning, I run it on auto to get 240 cleaning, I was worried about how long till the cats use it, I was thinking I hope not a week¡K wow they used it the first time, no training no delay. They skipped the regular box and went to the genie.. Even the male cat, he had to make sure it was safe for his sister. A bonus is the cats think it entertainment they sit and watch it spin and clean. There is no smell, and no poop mess to clean. The granules do track, but so don¡¦t normal litter, and with the walls and the mat a normal part of the tuxedo, its not far I just shake it back in the kitty toilet. I got my guest bath room back! The Cats got Toilet and entertainment! I don¡¦t know why I waited... its Great!

|Before: 2 litter boxes (cats would not share) 1 Litter Robot and 1 traditional litter box; a lot of mess, odor, cleaning time
After: 1 Cat Genie 120 (cats share the Genie); no mess, no odor, minimal cleaning time
My cats were sharing the Litter Robot until they turned 1 yr. Suddenly they refused to share the Robot and I had to add a traditional box. The Litter Robot does what it claims but you still have to deal with the drawer of feces and each time it makes a cycle it throws litter dust ALL over the room. The litter dust creates a much bigger mess and takes a lot longer to clean that simply emptying the Robot's drawer. Then periodically, you have to empty the heavy dome of all litter, clean it out and replace it with fresh litter.
Even so, Litter Robot is better than a traditional litter box. My Robot broke after 5 yrs. I replaced it with the Genie. (good move!#
The Genie does what it claims. There is no litter to scoop or replace because there is no litter! You don't even have to clean the bowl as you do your own toilet. Cleaning time? sweep granules off the floor. The Genie 120 is an amazing feat of engineering. Kudos to those who designed it. When reading other reviews watch the date. The Genie 120 is much improved over the original Genie 60. When I first installed my Genie 120 #which was unbelievably easy) I was getting a beeping sound and stall when cleaning. Customer service sent me a new processer and a pre-paid return label. I just put my old processer in the box they sent and called Fed Ex for a pick-up-all at no cost to me. The new processer works flawlessly. My cats like watching the Genie as much as I do! AND MY CATS ARE SHARING THE GENIE because it is always sanitary! There are no lingering cat smells from the Genie at all. I took the plunge because Cat Genie offers a 90 day guarantee, which is plenty of time so see if your cat will accept the Genie. And, I'll "never touch cat litter again"! Thank you Cat Genie!!!

|I have 2 cats, a boy and a girl. and neither one uses the CatGenie as intended. The boy has CH which causes him to walk with a shaky, jerky gait. He uses a litter box with no problem other than flinging litter a lot. The girl had been de-clawed by a previous owner, and has temperamental litter box habits.
My problems have been:
Excessive activation under "Cat Activation Mode"
Problem peeing while in the cleaning cycle, due to above complaint
De-clawed cats may not tolerate the feel of the pellets on their paws
First, sound and smell: We live in a small New York apartment, so the CatGenie had to go outside our bathroom, i ran the water lines through the wall. When it goes off, it is loud enough to be annoying, about half way between air conditioner and vacuum cleaner in loudness. IT is loud enough to wake me up. Smells come in two varieties, feces/urine and the smell of the solution itself. The solution has a smell that can only be described as cloying. at first it's not bad, but over time it develops a sickly sweet familiarity to it. Sometimes when the cleaning cycle starts, you can get a strong odor of urine and or feces, usually when its run in the morning after sitting all night with urine in the bottom. Also, the pellets have no odor fighting capability at all, so when a cat defecates, you get the full smell until a cleaning cycle is run, which is a 10 minute wait in cat activation mode, and even longer in automatic mode.
The boy views the CG as his personal spa. When I put it in cat activation mode, he discovered that by entering without doing anything would result in a fresh warm place to lie in. At the end of the cleaning cycle, the pellets are warm from the dryer, and its almost as good as laying in the sunny spot. As a result, he would repeatedly enter the CG to trip cat activation. This repeated running not only wastes solution, but also results in non stop noise and the CG not being available for the other cat when she needed it, resulting in problem peeing, either on our bed or on a pillow. Also, since the cleaning solution leaves the granules sticky, they would cling to the boy, and be carried all over the house. Others have wrote about the tracking problem, I got the jumbo version.
Our girl has some behavioral problems stemming from being de-clawed, one of which is being temperamental about the litter box. One problem de-clawed cats have is that cat litter can be irritating to their paws, and apparently, the CatGenie's plastic pellet granules are not good for her. She did best on World's Best Cat Litter, which is made from corn husk, and is soft on the paws. As a result she was slow to adapt to it, and would find solutions to her problem outside the box.
So, if you have a cat that is un-fazed by litter box changes, has good box habits, is not a litter flinger, and you can put this in a part of your house so that noise and odor issues would be tolerable, like a large bathroom or laundry room, then this may work well for you. My CG has functioned exactly like it should, no clogs or jams, it's just that my situation was not compatible with the CatGenie.

|- Extremely loud and disruptive cleaning cycle that lasts 1/2 hour
(Cat is still scared of Cat Genie after 2 months)
- Pellets get kicked out of shallow bowl and tracked through the house
*The company is aware of the design flaw. Cat Genie's solution is to have customers BUY additional products to make it work as advertised~WTF!?
- Pellets do not encapsulate fecal matter like traditional litter~stinky
- If scooper device misses bits of waste, they end up being soaked in water and heated for 25 minutes
(The smell permeates the entire home)
- Worst customer service EVER
I bought this and had questions regarding the unit straight away. The splitter for the water flow was not the correct size and the hoses were not long enough. I tried calling Cat Genie customer service and was on hold forever so I decided to email my questions and concerns. All of the Cat Genie commercials state that they are so sure you will love their product that you have a 60 day guarantee. I waited and waited for the email response and never got it.
I ended up having to have someone install it after purchasing additional hardware. When I finally started using it, I was horrified and repulsed. It is so loud and the daily cleaning cycle takes 30 minutes. Unfortunately my cat drops a bomb late at night so I am sure my neighbors (apartment building) hate it as well. Because the litter is plastic, it does not adequately cover the dookie bombs so it will stink up the place until you run the cycle. If the scooping mechanism does not do its job properly the machine ends up literally "polishing turds". It is so repulsive. It mixes water with pieces of solid waste and if that's not gross enough, it heats them during the dry cycle. The smell is unbearable-I honestly was gagging and thought I was going to lose my dinner.
I decided that I must return this and tried customer service again. I was hung up on by one rep (for no reason whatsoever) and was treated horribly by another. He said that I would have to return the unit to Amazon. I tried explaining that the 30 day return had passed because I was waiting for a response from Cat Genie and after not hearing back had to get someone out to buy the necessary parts and install it. He said that was too bad and that they would not honor the 60 day money back satisfaction guarantee since it was from Amazon. He was so rude and belittling.
I wish I would have saved my money and just got another Litter Maid.

|I've had my CatGeni around 3 years and I LOVED IT, at first. It worked when I first
got it, but it wasn't long before the trouble started. It didn't take long for my
cats to start using it. It's really loud, so when I first heard it I thought that
there was no way they would ever use it. I put the CatGeni in my bathroom next to
the litter box and then all I had to do was not change the litter and it took less
than a week for them to start using it. I started having problems with my CatGeni
probably after a few weeks, it's hard to say for sure since it was so long ago.
The hair and poo would stop up the hopper and that is a REALLY NASTY, not to
mention, time consuming job to fix that problem. Then hair and poo would get stuck
in the hose. Of course when the beeping goes off to let you know there's a
problem you don't know which problem it is, there are so many! Oh Yeah, back to the hair in
the hose, the first few customer care helped me with this problem, they had me take
the unit apart and take the hose off of my toilet and put in my bathtub and run water
in the hose in hopes that the water would push the hair/poo ball back into the unit.
We also tried water from the unit through the hose to the tub. Luckily, at some point
I talked to someone at customer care, when I had a hair/poo ball in my hose, that told
me to just shake and bang/slam the hose around (while the hose is "still in my toilet").
That trick has saved me a lot of "Nasty Time".
I have also had the arm that attaches to the scoop "go out". This problem is detected
whenever your scoop is supposed to shake the beads out, it makes this unbelievably
deafening banging noise!
I could live with most of the problems I have had, beads all over my house, units
irreversible broken (I've had probably 6 or more), ect.. The problems I just couldn't
live with were the clogged hopper and the clogged hose!
The true flaw with the CatGeni is that the hole in the hopper and the hose are too
small!! If you have more than one cat and they poo and later you flush, it won't go through.
The poo is hard and, of couse, is full of hair and the hopper and the hose are too
small! ALSO, the notch that holds the hose at the bottom of the base is too small.
I just recently found this out since the notch cause a cut in my hose. I thought the cats
were peeing outside the CatGeni in front of my toilet, but I finally realized I had a cut
in my hose. I also have trouble with the connection where the CatGeni connects with
my toilet to the water source, it always leaks.
Some of my cats got to where they wouldn't use the CatGeni if it had been used a few
times, admittedly I think it was my older girls, so I had to put the litter box back
in the bathroom. I now have my toilet, the kitty toilet, and the litter box, not to mention
my tub/shower and 2 sinks! Oh, I finally solved the the clogging problem. I JUST SCOOP THE
POO OUT OF MY CATGENI AND FLUSH IT!! Oh Yeah, it also would clog if your cats had
My cats prefer the litter box, but they like to have the CatGeni for an alternative
