Product DescriptionComing off the success of the Lumix TZ3, Panasonic has unleashed the DMC-TZ5 with higher resolution, sensitivity, and manual controls. From the outside, the TZ3 and the TZ5 look nearly identical -- both have the exact same dimensions but the TZ5 is 35 grams lighter at 245g. Internally, there are several key elements that have improved between the DMCTZ3 and the DMCTZ5. Face detection has been added to the DMCTZ5 which will help to keep the important things in focus, especially when you need to take quick candid shots and don't have time to double check that your subjects are in focus. Additionally, the maximum shutter time has been increased to 60 seconds, enabling long-exposure shots such as capturing lightning bolts or busy nighttime street scenes. For storage, Panasonic increased the internal memory on the TZ5 to 50Mb (vs just 13Mb with the TZ3) for emergency situations when you max out your memory card. Transfer speeds have also improved with the aid of USB 2.0 compatibility. Although the Lumix DMC-TZ5 still boasts a 3" LCD screen (like the TZ3) but the resolution of the screen has doubled, allowing for a even crisper image that gives a better feel for the photo you are about to take. Unchanged is the famous Lumix T-series MEGA Wide Zoom that covers a range of 28mm for wide angle shots and 280mm for zooming in on distant details. For video, the DMC-TZ5s records at 30 fps at a whopping 1280x720 high definition resolution. Overall, the TZ5 brings several "big camera" features to its small compact body. |

Here is what people are saying about the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5S 9MP Digital Camera with 10x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom
"Now I use it all the time." | 2009-12-20 |

I was so disappointed with the picture quality of this camera during the first few months of use and I did not use it much at all. Then it dawned on me to look for a firmware update. I applied v1.2 update to the TZ5 and that made all the difference. Now I carry this camera with me everyday and use it all the time even though I have several DSLRs. Wow, I also missed a gem.
Panasonic needs to get with the program and get the firmware right in the first place. This is my only grip with Panasonic camera products. It is my understanding that they are not supporting many of their products with firmware updates (about one for the FZ30). Any company should write several firmware updates for every model. Do they think that we are going to throw money at them every year or so just because they have poor support. |

Not a great camera but produces rich, but soft contrasting photos. Zoom lens is sensitive but have to work patiently with it. Very easy camera to use, solidly built. Downloads photos to computer very quickly without installing another worthless program. Flash is kind of weak and i have to recharge the battery often.
I like to experiment but anything over ISO 400 & there's a noise factor, however,
overall I am very pleased with this camera.

"I have no regrets" | 2009-11-20 |

I hate feeling buyer's remorse and typically read through a lot of reviews before making purchases. I spotted this camera at Best Buy and fell in love with its wide angle lens, large crisp display, and powerful zoom. The other similarly priced cameras on display couldn't hold a match to it.
I came home and looked it up on Amazon, and was knocked over by how many people loved this camera. So I bought it, and have to add my own positive review. I took it with me on a 3 month trip to Ukraine, and love the shots it took, especially of the architecture. It was nice to get a whole building in the frame without having to back up extremely far.
People love the blue color too...really stands out against all the silver models out there.
It's great to buy something and not feel like you made a mistake. Everyone that's tried my camera has been impressed with the quality and has asked me where I bought it. |

"Absolutely love this camera!" | 2009-11-17 |

I have a dSLR and wanted a point and shoot to carry with me at all times and one that would be easy and fun to use for my husband - one that wouldn't have too many intimidating settings but that would produce good results. I LOVE this little camera. He can set it on IA (Intelligent Auto) and get good pictures 95% of the time. (Panasonic has since come out with an updated version with very similar features and I imagine I would love that one too.)
What I particularly like about this camera:
True wide angle:
What does that mean? It means you can get a full group of people in a shot without having to back up so far that they look like ants or you can't really see their faces. It also means that you can get closer to buildings, if you like to take architectural shots, and get more of the building in from closer = better view of the building and its details. Basically you can get closer to whatever you are shooting, get more of the item in the photo and still see it. Very nice for sweeping landscapes on vacation too!
Great zoom
Combine the fabulous zoom with the awesome wide-angle and you get a fantastic range in one small camera body
Zoom with video!!
No one talks about this but most small cameras don't give you the ability to zoom while you are using the video. (check it out) This one does a great job and I really, really like/need this feature. It's much smoother to zoom from the camera than to walk closer once the video is running. So, let me repeat - ZOOM WITH VIDEO :))
Very nice image quality.
It's not a dSLR but I didn't expect that. I can get very nice images straight out of the camera and I can give it to my mom, my husband, a complete stranger, set it to IA or whatever setting I want and get a nice picture.
Tons of settings
The menu gives you the ability to choose from tons of pre-sets like landscape, macro, pets, snow, fast burst, etc. It has two menu selections to you can set them to the two you use most frequently and it makes it even faster and more convenient to change if you want to.
Great IA
Use the Intelligent Auto setting and the camera will even change to macro mode for you! It works fabulously.
Relatively fast first click and next click
Very acceptable (meaning low) delay from start up to first click and from one click to the next. Plus, you can set it to the fast burst setting if you want to shoot several pictures in a row very quickly.
Other:
Leica lens with a Panasonic affordable price!
Image stabilization!
I love this little camera and would buy it (or the newer version) again! |

I bought this camera for a couple a months and i loved it. Took it to a coldplay concert and took few shots. really great zoom and nice quality. The battery life is good and the lcd screen in the back is big and clear.
The camera is great but i have one feature that i didn't like. The microphone is right on top of the camera, so when you take videos or sound you have to make sure you're not covering it up.I keep forgeting that microphone is up top i to stabilize the camera for videos i usually use to hands an most everytime i cover the microphone.Besides that the camera is really good i was suprised. |
