"Perfect PHONE for People Who Make Phone Calls" | 2008-08-05 |

This is my first phone purchase, ever. Every other phone that I had for the last 15 years has been provided by my employer. I wanted a simple, easy to use phone, and the Super Slice has been great.
1. Phone reception and voice quality have been great.
2. Very small and light - easy to carry in your pocket.
3. Basic features including voice memos (missing from the iPhone).
4. Phone service plan is very inexpensive.
Yes, this phone does have limitations, but you have to consider that you're only spending $50. I've had my share of Blackberries and other phones with various problems described in other reviews (phone locks up, poor reception, limited battery life). However, the Super Slice has been great. Most importantly, Virgin Mobile offers an unlimited voice plan for $79 per month. That's cheaper than other phones that require a 2-year contract. Why do people sign 2-year contracts for more money than it costs without a contract? |

This is an awsome phone. It has a camera, the service is cheap (I pay 20 buck every three monthes for 200 minutes, I don't talk much). I love everything about this phone, cheap service, games, quick recharging, long battery life, cool ring tones, and it's only 60 bucks (at target)! This phone is a very good phone and I highly suggest it for someody who is shoping for a phone.
The only complaint I have about this phone is that every once in a while the battery comes loose and I have to take it out and stick it back in.
By the way, I am not angry mom, that's my mom, don't ask me why she chose that name, I don't know. |

"Super Slice phone keeps FREEZING UP" | 2008-06-07 |

Had new Super Slice phone for just three weeks, and it's time to get rid of it. Phone looks good but has buggy software. It keeps freezing up for no reason. Have to take battery out and put it back in to get phone to work. After having to do this about ten times, I did a google search using the keywords super slice freezes, and found that this is a common problem for this phone.
If you want a cell phone that doesn't freeze up every day then stay far far away from the super-slice phone. |

| Bought this phone as an upgrade to my old one. I have had it for three days and it just started vibrating and now wont stop. I turned off the phone and it vibrates. The only way to get it to stop is to take out the battery. I have been reading bad reviews about technical issues with this phone. I did call Virgin Mobile and they are replacing it with a new phone (getting the Cyclops instead) that I will recieve in 2 business days. |

"Terrible phone and service to match!" | 2008-05-13 |

| Had a Virgin Mobile phone for years, decided to upgrade to a Super Slice so I could use Bluetooth. Bad choice! After two weeks it flashed on a "Voice Mail" screen and froze there. Totally dead! First customer service guy said it was defective, and this has been a problem with Super Slices. They would send me a "new phone." In a week I received, not a new phone, but a "replacement phone," (translation: someone else's defective phone a tech guy has looked at and sent out to the next unsuspecting customer). The battery would not charge. When I put my good battery from the first phone in and tried to use it, it froze on the Voice Mail screen like the original phone. Virgin Mobile customer service will not send a NEW Super Slice, or other model, but will only send another "replacement phone." Would give zero stars if that was an option. |

"Virgin Mobile customer service NOT GOOD." | 2008-05-12 |

I've now owned an Audiovox, Oyster, and Marbl. Ringtones are designed for 13-year olds. You can't get a ringtone that you wouldn't be embarrassed listening to in a professional environment. When I asked about a simple, classic "phone ring" I was told, by email, "Ringtones are, like, expensive, you know?" Apparently, they have 13 year-olds working there, too. Phones are absolutely crippled, as other posters have indicated. Even the website is uninformative. For instance, try looking up the megapixel rating on the SuperSlice. You won't find it anywhere- not even in the technical documentation. Instead what you get is a lot of "Whoa, dude, you got yerself a bitchen phone!"
While the phone service is relatively inexpensive, you get what you pay for. My wife and I were on vacation (she has a VirginMobile phone as well) in New Hampshire last year and were unable to use the phones anywhere, as there is a huge black hole in coverage in one of the more popular vacation states in the US. Luckily, we had no accidents while hiking or cycling. But we're adults, we use the phones only when we really need to, and we can do without about 99% of the juvenile content on the Virgin Mobile site.
You have to top up every 90 days, whether you've burned through your minutes or not. I've got $140+ in credits built up- I just don't use a phone that often. I'm calling my dad long distance every weekend and talking for an hour, and I haven't put a dent in it, so I'm trapped using crappy phones (really cheaply, poorly built- hinges are flimsy) and crappy service. I wish that Virgin Mobile would put just 1% of Branson's financial wherewithal into developing a branch of this service that would appeal to those customers who want a decent phone "for big people." |

"No Keyguard; dials calls...loses battery charge" | 2008-04-29 |

| Bad phone. I bought this for my daughter and she is not able to use it. There is no keyguard to stop unwanted dialing in her purse or pocket. The phone is constantly lighting up the screen using up the battery. She has to turn it off when it's in her purse so she doesn't lose the charge! What good is that?! Useless phone. Don't buy it! |

I am a light phone user, in fact the reason I got this Virgin Mobile phone was I thought it would save me money compared to my VerizonWireless plan at $45 or so a month...not so, not by a long shot. I am spending close to $70 for the first month on their 18 cents per minute plan. The Apple Phone is looking better and better.
I also have been having problems with buttons being pushed while the phone is in my pocket, so far it hasn't actually called anyone (thank God) but it's still irritating as heck. Haven't been able to lock the keypad to stop that from happening. |

"A Great Phone Crippled By Virgin" | 2008-02-07 |
| - Reviewed By User: A32FQVKM6U9329 |
This is a great phone, slim and sleek, robust and all, but gets a 1 star rating from me. Here's why:
The phone has hardware capabilities to communicate to a personal computer via USB and BlueTooth. However both are disabled by Virgin Mobile. Neither UTStarcom or Virgin Mobile will provide the necessary driver software to connect your phone to your PC.
These are the list of things that you *could* have done with this phone if it was not soft-locked by the service provider:
- Load ringtones onto your phone - Install java applications of your choice, like Google Maps, Calendar or free Games - Transfer, backup and retrieve data, adressbooks, and pictures in between your phone and your computer - Use your phone as a mobile internet connection for your PC
As I said, all these are possible by the hardware you actually paid for but taken away from you thanks to Virgin's petty marketing policy.
Stay away from this phone until Virgin releases the necessary USB and Bluetooth drivers. |

"High quality phone with a surprisingly nice camera!" | 2008-02-06 |

It's not just the advertised photos, this phone really does look and feel sleek and could easily pass for a more expensive phone. The screen is fairly large, bright, and clear. The date and clock is easy to see and well placed. The menus are designed well and easy to navigate. While I've seen some reviews on the web that complain of lockups I've not experienced any myself.
I'm pleasantly surprised at the quality of the camera; most net reviews I read complained about the quality of the pictures but I found them to be quite clear considering it's a VGA camera. The camera includes four resolution settings, three quality settings, five zoom settings, and four light settings, giving you quite a bit of room to adjust.
Unlike some phones, this Super Slice does allow you to change the ringtone for new text messages, voicemail messages, and pictures messages separately. The text messaging features are well made with a pre-programmed main key to easily start typing a new text message. The T9 for text messaging works very well, but the "Auto text" feature is a nice way to pre-program words, phrases, or sentences that you find yourself typing often in a text message to easily send them in other messages. There's also emoticons as a colorful added touch.
I'd recommend this phone if you're looking for a small, thin, lightweight phone with a camera, that is very reasonably priced.
Note that the Amazon product information as of 02/06/08 is incorrect.. this phone is made by UTStarcom not Kyocera. |
