As a child of the 80's I grew up watching Stallone as Rambo. I wanted a knife with a compass so bad after seeing "First Blood" I could hardly see straight!! But I have to admit when I first heard that Stallone was going to milk the Rambo teet for another film, I had serious reservations. But I guess having Rambo help create the Taliban in Part III isn't the best way for one of America's heroes to go down in cinematic history.
I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed "Rambo", it's a violent gore-fest which tries to cram in message about fighting for "something" in it's 80 minute run time. The basic story is you get some bible-thumpers who want to spread medecine and "the word" to the poor folks in war-torn Burma, and they want Rambo to guide them upriver into this stinking hell-hole. Well you know whats going to happen from the first moment Rambo leaves these do-gooders alone, but how it happens is a whole other matter. When the bad guys make an entrance.....they make an entrance. People getting blown up left and right, ripped to pieces by machine gun fire..and it's not like the old "Rambo" flicks where somebody would get shot and fall down, when someone gets shot here you see limbs come flying off, guts come pouring out, heads explode...it's some of the greatest gore effects this side of the "Saw" films. Seriously it's like "Rambo" meets "Cannibal Holocaust".
Of course the main reason to see a Rambo film is to watch Rambo get his revenge. And this he does, and in true gruesome fashion. More limbs go flying and more noggins erupt in blood spouts, and of course Rambo puts his hunting knife and bow to great use.
So, is "Rambo" a good film? I enjoyed it. But then, I love horror films so splatter doesn't really bother me too much. (If anything I kept thinking that whoever did these special effects really needs to be hired for the next "Friday the 13th" flick!). If you are squeamish, then this probably isn't the flick for you. If you are looking for the rah-rah go America Rambo of the 80's, you'll probably be disappointed as well, as Rambo himself makes it clear he isn't fighting for country or god..he's just fighting for himself. Also, if you are looking for Rambo to be a one-man extermination squad, you'll probably be disappointed as well. This film is more like "Team Rambo" with several mercenaries thrown in to help Rambo out. But if you don't mind the blood, and just want to watch Rambo kick some butt, then you will enjoy this flick. |

"Great movie, but hid the most important point on Burma" | 2009-09-05 |

| For pure entertainment, he movie was fantastic. I'd rate it as as good as the first Rambo. I did notice that all mention of China's involvement in Burma was ignored. The current government in Burma is a Chinese puppet government. China needed a direct rout to the Persian gulf, and now has one through Burma. In Rambo II, the Russian presence in Vietnam was made clear. Why were the Chinese not mentioned in this Rambo? Likely because the US is deep in debt to China, and Washington pressured the studio to keep the American people from knowing what evil bastards they really are. We might stop buying all the poisoned crap they are shipping to our country. I will rate it 3 stars. Five for entertainment, and 1 star for letting the Chinese off the hook. |

"AMAZING" | 2009-09-01 |

when i first heard a few years ago that sly was writing new installments to both the ROCKY and RAMBO series, i was excited at the ideas and what was coming down the line as we havent heard from these beloved characters in almost 20 years, and the last installments of both series fell flat. but still, i was excited to hear the news.
flash forward a few months to me seeing ROCKY BALBOA. fantastic movie and the best in the series since pt 2. (though pt 4 is still one of my favorites)ok then, after seeing the greatness that was rocky 6, i was definately pumped to see the new rambo.
now on to the movie....
in a word.....its AMAZING. i love this movie. i saw it in theatres when it was released and i just now watched it again on showtime and wow......it's awesome.
this time we see old J.J.R. in the jungles of burma fighting to save a religious group who is there to render aid to the burmese people. since burma is one of the most violent places on earth (in reality, not just the movie) the army doesn't take well to intruders on their land and kidnaps our group of do-gooders. enter rambo in rescue mode. along with a group of mercenaries he hunts down and rescues our friends while at the same time eviscerating the entire army in one bloody battle after another.
the violence in this movie is over the top. so much so at times that you literally have to turn away. but still it doesnt seem that it's violence for the sake of violence. it's all relateable to whats really happening in burma at present time. but if you're not a fan of violence or gore then this isn't for you. the death scenes in this film range from people being shot in the most brutal ways to disemboweling to babies being thrown into fires and having their heads crushed underfoot (no. im not joking) so stallone has definately upped the ante on the violence level and i have to say, it fits the movie perfectly and i loved it. i often found myself exclaming "jesus"! after one or more of the death scenes.
i can see why sly chose to go with LIONSGATE for the release of this film. really they're the only studio that would allow this level of violence in their films. i mean, they did release the SAW and CRANK films so they have no objection to bloody violence in their movies. i think any other studio would have balked at the idea.
but overall it's a great film and the best in the series since FIRST BLOOD. i reccommend it to any and all rambo fans and for fans of great action movies.
oh and BTW: rambo 5 has already been greenlit and will be going into production after sly finishes THE EXPENDABLES and whatever movie he has coming up after that. so i'd say R5 will be out around 2011. |

A movie about the war crimes in Burma where a group of peace advocates travel there but get caught by the brutal army.
John Rambo tries to rescue them, and of course is able to defeat the whole army.
Great Action. Really well direct. However very violent.
The violence looks so real and is so graphic that will disgust you. You might need to watch the movie in 3 phases since watching it one shot could make you throw up.

in my earlier rambo part reviews i made a strong argument for a rambo movie set in nam.a no holds barred, down and dirty, taking blood and guts to a whole new level nam movie.well,THIS IS IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this movie does not contain any measurable boundries.there are rapes and even multiple child murders.it is down and dirty as it blows anything in the first 3 parts out of the water.it does take blood and guts to a whole new level.i think they put in slower parts just so this movie wasnt a 90 minute gore reel.
they are in burma which i guess is like viet nam.they said the civil war there is the longest in history despite the fact that the one in ireland has spanned like 600 years.
so this movie contains everything viet nam and is merciless.even "full metal jacket" would have trouble standing up against this one.so,what im really getting at is this.i said i wanted a viet nam movie that was brutal and merciless but now im wondering if that was such a great idea.so,i originaly gave this movie a 4 star rating but due to the mass child murders shown in full graphic form,i dropped it to a 3 star rating.now i know there are some gore finatics and horror nuts who get off on all of this.well, sickos of the world, this movie is for you!but,if you couldnt the first three parts, this one will traumatize you! |

"THE BEST RAMBO SINCE FIRST BLOOD!" | 2009-07-25 |

I have always liked the original 'First Blood' film, but I hated both Rambo 2 and 3, so I had little desire to see this new film. After seeing Rocky Balboa when it was released and thinking it was the best Rocky since the original I had some curiosity about this new entry in the Rambo series.
While this film is short on brains, it's not short of adrenaline pumping action and stylish gore! Sure, Rambo is up to his old tricks, but this time it's a well paced film with some fun poked at the character.
This should have been the only sequel to the original film and as far as I'm concerned....it is!
