I like my Garmin nuvi 255W 4.3 inch widescreen portable GPS Navigator - however, your quick start manual is insufficient. You need to supply more instructions for use, i.e., how to charge battery other than when using in car, how to program settings, need buy a car charger. I had to go online for the instruction manual to learn how to use the system. A simple user manual should be included in the original purchase. I'm computer literate, but certainly not a "techie"! I like to avoid highways, but there's no option to delete "county roads" such as a beltway.

I have used this Garmin for most of a year and I like it very much. It loads quickly, have pretty accurate directions, and can recalculate quickly when I miss a turn. The main reasons I did not give it five stars are these:
- Not good for searching for businesses such as food. The data is sometimes out of date, particularly in my part of the country, so I use my iphone to find addresses, then plug them into the gps. This works fine, but it would be nice if the unit could find a restaurant more easily.
- Slow touchscreen. If you are used to a modern phone or other touchscreen, you might find these slow going. They are easy to type on, but you have to slow yourself town as it really can only read one press at a time, and slowly.
- Difficult to choose routes. If you set out to head on a roadtrip, the gps will give you one route and no options. You can easily set new through points, but they are tedious and might take you on a little detours.

Despite these issues, I really like this GPS. It is convenient and quick to map. If you like to get lost out in the country, exploring around, but want to get home efficiently, the "get me home" feature sure works well. I also like the trip monitor, which tracks all sorts of averages and total timing for your roadtrip.

Easy to use right out of the box. Updating the software and maps was simple (just make sure your battery is charged before you do the updates). We had the 200W nuvi and that was good but the new features with the 255W make it worth buying, the 255W says the street names and it also shows the speed limits for the road you are traveling. It is a great purhase and we think the Garmin Nuvi series is easy to use and has better features for the price.

I wanted a GPS to take on vacation, and chose this one. I am very happy with my decision. The first thing I did was check for updates, and there was one. The speaking voice is very plain and easy to understand. I had borrowed a friend's to try it, and his Nuvi had a very muddy, indistinct quality to the voice. This one has no such problems. I downloaded a lot of vehicle icons, and the grandkids chose a plane for our vehicle. The maps were very accurate, and the only mistake was an exit ramp that had recently been closed for construction was listed as open, but the construction had only been going a couple of weeks. The wide 4.3" screen was very easy to see, and the on-screen controls are easy to use and set. Overall I would rate this GPS very high, and would recommend it to anyone else.

This review will be short since I have only had my unit for two weeks. You can spend hours reading reviews ( and you should )but the bottom line is, it's a" Garmin " you can not go wrong with this choice. The problem is...which one? Pick out the features you want and discard the ones you don't need.Then buy it! If you don't like it Amazon will take it back and you can start all over again.
I bought the 255W and I love it! I was concerned about all the bad reviews on the text to speech feature and they are correct, it is not perfect but I can live with it and if you turn off that feature the normal voice is nice and clear but of coarse does not give street names. So far the only negative point I have found in the 255W is that in both the text to speech mode and normal speech mode the voice tells me to "Turn here" when I still have one quarter mile to go.But the "turn arrow" will be correct ( "turn in one quarter mile")I hope this helps a little. One other thing! I bought the "been bag" to use instead of that suction cup thing and that was another good choice.
