I was very excited about this game. I had heard a lot of great things about this title, and I loved the other Call of Duty games. I was a little disappointed in the campaign though. It was short, and while it looked great the story was a little less than I wanted. The graphics look amazing, and the game play has some great FPS mechanics. It does have one of the most memorable online experiences. Even though I normally don't like online it did keep me addicted for a while. Overall a good game, but I have no intention to beat the campaign again. The sequel does look pretty epic.
Presentation- The game looks pretty good. The menus are average; the music is uplifting and epic. There are no cut scenes which hurt the overall feel of the campaign. 4/5
Graphics- The graphics are the high spot of this game. They look amazing for a FPS. The sniper level looks amazing. It has great photo realistic graphics that impress at every turn. 5/5
Story- The story was not that in depth, and the lack of cut scenes made it hard to get the whole story. The nuke sequence was a pretty good idea though. I hope Modern Warfare 2 doesn't continue the story of this game because I can't even remember it. 4/5
Game play- A well developed shooter, and there are few things to gripe about. The game play is smooth. I wish they would add a cover system, other than that no complaints. I wish the campaign was longer though. 4.5/5
Lasting Appeal- This game does have surprising lasting appeal. The online has kept me involved in the game even if the campaign did not. I hope in the sequel that there is a decent campaign to keep me hooked as well. 4.5/5
The Verdict: This game I believe is a little over hyped. It was a decent shooter with amazing graphics and interesting online modes, but the campaign suffered. Still I recommend you pick this up before Modern Warfare 2 comes out. 4.4/5

I personally love first person shooters (FPS), even if I get shot down... I get right back in and try again. My brother got this game for me for my birthday a couple years ago because he asked what a few games were I was interested in, well... I'm glad I said COD4.
Right from the start I felt like I was playing a movie or something. It was very dramatic and intense. Lots of guns going off, big explosions, people yelling, planes going over your head. I don't know why but I got very wrapped up in the story mode... by the end I had a few tears welling up... yea, wow. I'm not sure what it was that brought me to that point, but, I do know that I had a sense of accomplishment after that. I didn't want it to be over honestly.
As for the online multi-player, besides getting shot down a lot by those who do not sleep, it's very enjoyable. If you can get a good team together then you'll be set, but, if you're all alone, like others said it ends up being a camp fest to win... not me though.. and I pay for it every time. I just can't sit still for too long, I feel like I'm cheating myself if I do. That's for snipers. I'm a decent level, got quite a few of the unlocks. Not really complaining about anything, everyone should be able to appreciate a good challenge. I always desire that co-op offline, but it's a great game to play and the detail is wonderful. Sure there may be a couple of bugs out there, but what game doesn't have some kind of bug, huh? People are always finding them then exploiting them... it's annoying... Give this game a try if you even slightly think you like FPSs. +_+ |

The Good: - Graphics: I thought Ghost Recon was the best looking game on PS3, then Call of Duty 4 came out. WOW! This game looks incredible. Every detail is painstakingly thought out; from the blades of grass to the bricks on the building, the way this game looks totally immerses you. Crank the sound up and it's like you're there.
- Sound: Stunning surround sound via Dolby Digital. Sit tight, and you'll hear the enemy approaching with pinpoint accuracy. Great music/score too; fits perfectly with the game. Music intensifies as the mission progresses... perfect.
- Gameplay: Perfect. This gameplay should be a model for every first person shooter. Single player game is far too short, but the online modes more than make up for this.
- Weapon Selection: lots of choices from a variety of firearm categories. It's all here.
- Online Layout/Concept: tons of game styles, and an excellent point/reward system. It's simple and easy to use. The points system gets you hooked fast, as your performance get you perks, such as new weapons or "power ups" such as improved bullet damage or invisibility on the radar. Overall, this online mode rivals Resistance: Fall of Man as the best on PS3.
The Bad: - Online Mode connection issues. First I'll note that typically my online connection is great. Resistance: Fall of Man works perfectly. Call of Duty on the other hand... sometimes it takes 10 minutes to connect to a game. It's seems the Free-for-All mode takes the longest. You try connect, wait a few minutes, nothing... then exit and try again. It's very frustrating!!! Whatever system they're using for the online mode doesn't work so well. If it wasn't for this problem and the short single player mode, the game would be a perfect 10 in my book. |
