Here is what people are saying about the Half Life: Orange Box
5 Star Rating  "What's stopping you?"2009-11-05

I've enjoyed this title since it came out on the PC years ago and now that they have so many Half Life 2 games on one disc, how can you NOT buy it? If you enjoy FPS games, this is a must for you. It's inventive, great story telling, great pacing and a threat that makes the Flood in Halo look like a trickle. It's amazing. 'Nuff said,

Many people have extensively discussed the details of The Orange Box here, but I'm still going to toss in my two cents...because I think this compilation is a must-buy for every fan of well made video games.

*The Orange Box is an incredible value. You get three games in the Half-Life 2 series, an online multi-player game, and an incredibly innovative puzzle/adventure game, for a total of *five* games at a bargain price. This is a VERY attractive deal given that most new games go for around sixty clams these days.

*Half-Life 2 and its two Episodes are chock full o' good, old fashioned first-person-shooter action. No, the graphics aren't the greatest and the story elements are a little on the light side (although anybody who plays Metal Gear Solid 4 before starting H-L probably will be looking for something with minimal cut scenes, plot, and character interactions!) but overall, they are all solid FPS games. Valve truly is a quality game developer. Nothing feels unfinished or poorly designed in any of the games in The Orange Box.

*The highlight of The Orange Box is Portal. I'm usually not much of a puzzle gamer but I was quickly sucked in by Portal. All the superlatives you've heard about Portal are true; it really is incredibly innovative, witty, immersive, challenging, and, most important, fun.

Bottom line: if it was possible to do so, I would give The Orange Box 4.5 stars because there are a few minor glitches in the software port, done by Electronic Arts, to PS3. Sometimes the frame rate slows way down, sometimes the controls do something odd (like shooting even though you didn't hit the trigger button), and there are frequent pauses for data loading. These are all minor issues, though, and do little to detract from the overall awesomeness of The Orange Box. So, I'm rounding my rating up to 5 stars, due to the extremely favorable fun/price ratio and for the inclusion of Portal.

The Orange Box is a great money saver. It includes Half Life 2, Half Life 2 Episode 1, Half Life 2 Episode 2, Team Fortress 2, and Portal. Although many people like it a lot, I personally have little interest in the Half Life 2 games because I haven't played the first one so it doesn't make any sense and overall it's just not fun. Team Fortress 2 and Portal, however, more than make up for it. Portal is a puzzle game with an FPS perspective. It may be short, but the 3-4 hours it packs in are awesome. Team Fortress 2 is an online multiplayer class-based first person shooter gore fest (what a mouthful). It's only online, so you need an internet connection. There are 9 classes, each one with his own unique abilities and weapons. If you shoot someone with an explosive, they literally get blown into bits, and there are little bloody chunks of them scattered around everywhere. It's extremely addicting, and worth the price of the entire package. I highly recommend The Orange Box for anyone who enjoys fun.

3 Star Rating  "PS3 version is gimped"2009-08-31

Important note: This game causes motion sickness if you aren't a seasoned FPS player. The parts where you use the airboat and the jeep are going to make you want to vomit.

Now that I've played both versions, I'm going to say the PS3 is gimped and broken. The Half Life epidsoes suffer framerate issues and glitches compared to the 360 version. The load times aren't much better, either.

As for Team Fortress 2, I don't see enough people playing and it's always the same few maps. The fun aspect isn't there, either, compared to other multiplayer games. The Half Life episodes are good solitary fun, it's a lot of single-player story crammed into one disc. Portal is a unique game, great evil computer commentary, and truly unique gameplay.

Bought the Orange Box for PS3 because it was so cheap and everyone ranted and raved about it. I didn't really expect that much. A few months later I couldn't believe I had finished all the episodes and am hoping for more. Half Life is incredible. The story line is wonderful, the graphics are stunning, you really get immersed into this game. The game isn't easy, but it's never so hard that you want to give up or get bored. It's really the perfect mix. I think, overall, this may be the best game I have ever played. Now I am eagerly awaiting Episode 3...
