"Great product, don't let incorrect information in other reviews influence decision" | 2008-10-24 |

I saw many reviews claiming the remote does not have a on/off button - this is incorrect. The PS3 button at the center of the remote performs this function - just press and the menu to switch off the PS3 comes up.
Also noticed some other reviews mention is that you have to navigate many menus to switch off the PS3 - well there is only 1 menu to navigate, and it is very simple to do, even in the dark. You can feel for the PS3 button on the remote to bring up the menu, without needing to look at it, the menu comes up, then just click on "Turn off system" - very easy.
Setup/sync with the PS3 is very simple - in fact, it was so simple that I cannot even remember how I did it. I think it's just going to the Settings menu and clicking on "Add Bluetooth Remote" or something of the sort. Whatever it is, the 2 or 3 steps necessary are detailed in the remote packaging, and takes less than 1 minute to do. Couldn't ask for a simpler design.
All other functions on the remote are covered - no problems with any. Remote works very well, and I personally consider it a must-have for anyone who plans to use the blu-ray player a lot on the system, as I do.
What is correct in the reviews is that the only connectivity option is bluetooth. The bluetooth is great for use with the PS3, better than any other option in my opinion (IR, radio, cord) - but no IR to facilitate connecting up to a universal remote.
Physical design is good - long and slender, easy to hold and find, buttons well sized and nice solid feel to the build.
Also saw someone mention the remote eats batteries. Well I've only had mine for about 2-1/2 months thus far, but haven't had any problems with batteries yet.
4 stars, 1 star lost mainly for lack of options to incorporate into a universal remote. |

| Too bad you have to purchase a Blu-Tooth remote to be able to use your Play Station Blu-Ray player but it works great. You can use the game controller to do the same thing but the remote is more user friendly. |

There are serious problems with this remote:
* Keys are placed in non intuitive locations; even the most important ones (play, stop, pause) are located in a completely illogical order (not to mention back/forward chapter and fast/slow scan). As a result, it is nearly impossible to use the remote in the dark, unless you memorize the position of several buttons. Consider that I also often use the "languages", the "subtitles" and the "display" buttons. I don't understand how Sony can have achieved to engineer something like this, with several good examples of remotes on the market (even by Sony itself!) they could have easily copied.
* The batteries last very short. My first batteries lasted just 4-5 months. The batteries on my TV IR remotes, always by Sony, normally last 3-4 years or more.
That said, it is much better to control the blu ray discs with this toy than with the Sixaxis. |

| There isn't a lot I can add to what others have said in either the pro or con line. But despite it being a yet another remote on my coffee table, I have come to consider it my favorite. I long for the day when all remotes become bluetooth devices and the flawless, no line of sight needed, I'm in another room and it still works -performance that I enjoy with this remote extends to everything else. I'm not sure I get other people's complaints about the number of buttons - I've owned a few DVD players before and the number is pretty much the same as any other. Certainly is better than navigating a DVD/Blu-Ray movie with the PS3 controller! This wasn't my first purchase for a movie/remote solution on my PS3, but I'm very glad it is my last. |

I just purchased an HDTV a month ago and thought this would be a great way to watch Blu-Ray movies rather than buy a separate player. Using this remote to watch DVDs is much easier than using one of the game controlers. Setup is very simple and it's not expensive at all, definitely worth the money.

Bought my PS3 to watch movies, before games. Not many kid-friendly games (yet) and I don't like playing FPS with my 6yo watching over my shoulder.
For the spousal (in-law/baby-sitter) factor, this remote is excellent. It allows control of the PS3 to function exactly like our older DVD player. No having to figure out if triangle, circle or X stops, plays or pauses the movie.
Bluetooth functionality is a perk. I can play streaming music from the TV, via the PS3, and use the BT remote to pause and resume playback without sitting in front of the TV. |

| I did not think I needed yet another remote control because I thought the six-axis had everything it needed for movie playing on the PS3 and, yet, I bought one. There were 2 initial reasons:br /br /- my wife was missing a 'magic wand' shaped remote for playing moviesbr /- Amazon had it at a great price in one of them lightning dealsbr /br /I ended up using it myself and, in fact, using it for more than just movie playing - see below.br /br /But, let's do a quick inventory of features:br /br /= It's blue-tooth enabled and, therefore, it's not taking any ports on your PS3. This is probably important for anyone who has a "2-USB ports console".br /= It's wand-shaped, allowing the non-gamers to control their movie-watching activities while holding a familiar-shaped device in their hand.br /= It maps ALL the six-axis buttons and performs everything a six-axis would do, except for the joystick features of R1 and L1 (but you do have the push-down or 'click' abilities for them).br /= Includes additional buttons that the movie-only users would expect on a remote such as:br / + a number padbr / + ejectbr / + red, green, blue, yellow buttonsbr / + play, stop, pausebr / + slow(step), scan(left/right), prev/nextbr / + display, top menu, pop up menu, returnbr / + subtitles, angle, audiobr /= 2 AA battery powered (still with the original Sony batteries after 4 months of use)br /br /What is interesting about this remote, is that you can use it for much more than movie-playing. Given that it all the six-axis buttons are there, guess what? You can use it, and I do use it to:br /br /- surf the webbr /- play musicbr /- shop at the PSN storebr /- play certain games such as Sudokubr /- turn the PS3 on/off when your six-axis controllers are in the charger and I am playing GT5 that is using a racing wheelbr /br /And, yes, you CAN turn the PS3 on and off with this remote. Turning it on is easy - you simply press the PlayStation button and the PS3 turns one. To turn it off, you either go as far to the left on the X-bar and all the way up and press Enter (the turn-off PlayStation icon will be highlighted) or you simply hold the PlayStation button pressed for a few seconds and then select 'yes' and press the X button on the 'turn off the PlayStation' dialog.br /br /Overall: I am happy with this peripheral. Yes, it is one remote control but it's a pretty good one, for the reasons I stated above. |
