I haven't used this too much for things other than printing. It's pretty straight forward to set up. I got a little confused about how to use the scanning function and the scanning computer application. So, I think there is a learning curve the first time scanning. Scanning takes a few minutes and I haven't figured out a way to scan multiple pages quickly without having to manually insert and remove pages.
I gave high ratings for tech support and customer service, but honestly I haven't had to contact them yet.
The printer is 43 pounds. It is noisy. Paper easily gets jammed. It requires 5 ink cartridges that are pricy. The concept is great. Customer service is poor and they don't back their product. For the overall investment, I wish I had made another choice.
my reseach had me choose this printer. It is very noisy. After I replaced the black ink cartridge with an original HP cartridge I can't get it to print consistantly. There are no "no ink" or "low ink" warnings but when I print test pages, no black. The automatic feeder and duplex feeder are great features that make this slightly better than average in my opinion. Certainly nothing like the hype I read in my research.
I'll make this short. No long technical review. I have read the reviews about the print quality of this machine, and they are right on. It does great work and does it quickly.
The problem is, after 14 months, the scanner has stopped working. I have gone through 3 "customer service" chats with HP, and the same thing has happened every time. Uninstall the software using the CD and then install it new from the HP site. Three tries, three failures.
If you look it up on the Internet, you will find numerous complaints of this happening after a relatively short time. So, even though this printer produces great work, you should only buy it if you are willing to spend another $200+ in a year or so.
I've been using this machine for nearly a year and am fairly satisfied with it. It's hooked to a seven-year-old Dell desktop PC running Windows XP Professional.
Pros: It's fast and the print quality is very good. I bought the auxiliary input tray, so I can print onto either letter-size or legal-size paper without swapping out paper. Ink cartridges are easy to install. Ink levels are dispayed by default. It has many convenient whistles and bells. The onboard menus are intuitive and relatively well-organized. The copy, print, and fax functions work just fine.
Cons: It guzzles ink at an alarming rate -- far more than its ratings suggest. I have been unable to get it to scan properly. The PC software is unnecessarily complicated and non-intuitive. Specifying the settings for printing is cumbersome and poorly organized. (I suspect this is due partly to the limitations of the operating system, but still could be improved substantially.) For example, it takes many keystrokes to switch from letter size to legal size. The flatbed cannot copy or scan legal-size originals.
I haven't used the photo-printing features such as printing directly from the memory chip in my camera.

Product arrived promptly and was easy to install. Works perfectly. Had a little trouble getting warranty registered with HP but eventually succeeded: I needed to provide an invoice which is obtainable on web site but not received by e-mail or delivery.
