I bought a refurbished Dyson Ball Model DC24 for $300-Referb it has a 6 month Factory Warranty - it was on a whim without doing the research -I was an expensive experiment - So before my wife opened the box we went on Amazon my favorite site for customer reviews - I read the 5 Stars and the 1 stars as well as the 3 stars reviews- Today we decided to keep the unit and I opened the box and set up the Vacuum - It is plastic which is light weight and easy to use - looked a little cheep compared to our 25 year old Kirby.
It is very quite and it does a great job cleaning - The cord is a little short (20 ft) a common complaint our house is 1800 sq ft every room has an outlet so when we vacuumed a room it had to move the cord - Easily solved with a 10ft extension cord - The canister filled quickly - bad thing to have to change after very room - but it showed just how much dust, dirt, and dog hair the old Kirby was missing - our carpets are much cleaner which is a good thing! I am very pleased with it - our family room is small 15 x 18 ft I could watch TV when the new Dyson vacuum was on - this is a first, for the old Kirby is just a little bit quieter than a 747 at take off - I am glad we got it - I give it 4.5 stars - The cord thing keeps it from a full 5 star but glad we bough it. - Amazon only has a whole star system so that's why I gave it a four but it is really 4.5!

"won't buy it"

I just borrowed this vacuum from a friend to see how it worked before buying one. I won't buy it. First of all, the cord is very short, and in my older house with few outlets I had trouble reaching everything. Also, it did not pick up anything beyond small dust and dirt. It failed to pick up some quarter-sized dried flower buds (just pushed them around) and did not pick up guinea pig hay at all, even after the sweeping mechanism had ground it up somewhat. Good on general hardwood floor dust and dirt, though, and easy to empty. It is certainly not worth what it costs.
"Great on style, poor on value."

I bought this vacuum for my mother last year (2008) for Christmas. I lived out of town and was told that she liked it. however when I recently moved closer I noticed she was using an old Hoover that sounded like a broken jet engine instead of the sleek Dyson I bought her. When I inquired, she was reluctant to say anything poor about the vacuum in fear of offending me.
It wasn't until I started using the vacuum that everything became apparent. Stylistically I give this vacuum and A+, functionally I give it a D-. Although Dyson's claims on suction are pretty accurate, the rest of the vacuum is so appalling that I can't believe there are so many people giving these a high rating.
Pro's
-----
-Picks up pet hair and fine particles. I know this because I have to empty it after using it in every room.
-Easy to maneuver around objects.
-There are no other pro's...
Con's
-----
-Flimsy plastic
-No height adjustment on the head. Instead of picking up a cheerio, it just pushes it around.
-Friction fit of the hose running from the head to the body, gets dislodged and gouged when running along kitchen cabinets.
-Short cord and no automatic reel.
-Small dust bin and very messy to empty. I mentioned the pet hear earlier, it gets clogged full after each room and I have to reach in and pull the hair out. ( I vacuum every other day.)
-Cannot vacuum under a bed or low furniture.
-Vacuuming small area rugs is an exercise in frustration.
-Have to reset the roller head far to often.
-Super-high price tag for all these problems.
Personally, I own a Sears Kenmore 2 piece vacuum and had it for 5 years now and no complaints. I will continue to use the Sears for myself and search for something better for my mother. The Dyson will be on Craigslist before too long.
Side note
----------
If you're single, live a clean life without kids or pets and vacuum daily than this vacuum *may* suite you just fine.
"Good Product"

Good product, works great even for small size. Although it should work well for the price.
The vacuum works great but is it worth it? NO!!! It's incredibly heavy. I'm exhausted after using it. Give me a good old vacuum bag anytime rather than inhaling the dust that flies all over when you empty the canister. And, worst of all, I can never get the pieces back together again after dismantling the handle to use the extension attachment. If I had it to do over again, I'd keep my money and live with less suction power.
"Great vacuum and perfect for all floors"

I love this lightweight vacuum! I have several different floor types in my home and love how this vacuum easily transitions from carpet to hardwood and performs equally well. The suction is phenomenal and noticed an immediate difference in cleaning quality compared to my last vacuum brand. Very lightweight, easy to manuever, and excellent performance makes this a 5 star product!
