I did serious research on window ac's vs. portables. Here is what we found out...
this model was a bit complicated to put the drainage hose inside the venting hose. While we put one hose in place, the other popped off. From research, apparently it touts its misting abilities but the drainage pipe that comes with it has to be drained, not a pleasant process.
Mainly we hooked it up and set it to the coldest setting, sixty two degrees. It was 78 degrees outside so we expected big things! But after six hours, the temp in our 12x15 bedroom dropped one degree. The air exiting the machine felt cool and terrific, but the venting pipe (which is flimsy plastic like the one on your dryer) got hot....really hot. I think if you do not extend the venting tube at all, the heat will be contained within it. However, if you extend the venting tube (as is required for most people since that is the objective after all, an ac that does not reside right in front of the window, right?) you will find the heat comes into the room and blocks any cooling.
Once the evening set in, the temp outside was around 72 degrees but our room temperature never got below 71 although it ran on high all night long. It was not worth it, we sent it back. We purchased a window air conditioner with more btus for half the price and right now my whole room is igloo comfortable.
I'm not sure why other people rated this product so high, it really was not efficient at all and is not worth the price. I guess I can see using it in rare instances but do not buy it to save money on cooling because it is NOT energy efficient at all. If I have to say something nice, it is a nice looking product. |

| I have a bonus room over our garage that continually stays about 5 degrees or more warmer than downstairs. If I turn on the computer up here, or our HD projector and PS3, Wii or whatever, it really starts to warm up. Since summer is coming, the wife and I decided to pick one of these units up on sale locally for $150+tax. Took about 15 minutes to hook up, and is on right now working great. I may update this review later in the summer when it really gets hot if I'm not satisfied, but it seems to be working pretty well right now. Ahhhhh.... :) |

Highly Recommended!! Inexpensive and powerful. Simple to setup. just 4 pieces to put together. As with ANY air conditioner, the hot air must vent so the window connection was simple and i can easily move it from room to room since all windows are same size. This unit works better than the 10,000 unit. Only issue - squirrels, came in through window vent (unit was NOT on). had to get mesh screening to cover window connection. |

This unit was easy to install(and I have zero handyman skills) and does exactly what was promised. During heatwaves with temperatures of 85 degrees and higher, this unit kept my 250 square foot bedroom at a comfortable 74 degrees.(I could have set it lower but I found this temperature to be comfortable) Have used it heavily for over a month and have not had to drain it once.
I am very very satisfied with this product |
