ABSOLUTE JUNK
I want my money back. I don't know how they sell this for $250 on the product website. This thing is WORTHLESS. Let me count the ways.
It locked up during every device configuration. After waiting for ten minutes or so I could go back and it might or not have taken the configuration.
The browser is a joke, especially on ESPN's website. Even with the text set to MEGA HUGE it was too small to read. And this is a site that I use regularly on a KRZR cellphone with about the same size screen.
Hooking it up to the DirecTV DVR was a pain. None of the color (red, blue, green) buttons (used to page through listings, access options, etc) function or are available. Accidentally hitting the volume button while in DVR would cause a screen to popup that would require the orignal remote to get closed, and would come back every time.
COMPLETELY unable to program a command (where you push the button you want, then push the button on the source remote and point it at this guy) I tried for hours without one single success.

I gave this item to my husband for Christmas this past year, and the first one broke within the first two months. It was difficult to program (the "progam activities never worked) and I was up for hours on Christmas Eve getting it ready. Immediately it began to freeze - sometimes I would have to remove the battery 1-2 times a day to get it to reboot which was ridiculous. It often had difficulty finding my network (none of our other electronics have this problem). I called customer service after two months of this nonsense and they did send me a new remote.
The "new" remote isn't much better at all. It is no longer charging properly and makes an awful whining noise when in the charger. I have to reboot it about 2x per week (better than the first one but still not acceptable).
I don't recommend this product - it has lots of bells and whistles, but if the screen is frozen or it is not charging right - doesn't really matter. Perhaps the next update will fix some of the bugs but for now, we don't use it at all. |

| I'm not a teenager or newbie, I'm the owner of many all-in-one type remotes (including several harmonies). I just love this thing, it's intuitive and supereasy to setup and use. |

Okay, I received the ESPN Ultimate Remote yesterday and set it up last night. For those of you who fear the remote may be a little too "ESPN-centric", fear not.
There are quite a few people who compare this remote to one of the Harmony remotes. Well, I have a Harmony remote and although you can set it up using the PC, it isn't always easy and it doesn't always work the way you'd expect it to.
Setting up the ESPN remote can go two ways. If you're not technically inclined, follow the onscreen prompts and it will walk you through the setup. If you have a rather complicated home theater setup, use the learning feature on the remote.
"Why would anyone want to use the learning function to program a remote?"
Well, I'll tell you:
1. It's fast! In learning mode, you press the button on the new remote (beep), you press the button on the old remote (ding) repeat, repeat, repeat. Once you are in learning mode, you can program buttons one right after another. You don't have to scroll through a menu and select "learn" for each button. You can actually learn a complete device faster with this remote than setting up a Harmony remote using their software. 2. YOU decide what the buttons on the remote do.
Okay, on to the good stuff.
Guide:The onscreen guide is great. You can scan through it and see what's on tv without having to change the channel or disturbing someone else who's watching tv. If you see something that is coming on later, you can actually set a reminder and the remote will beep when the show is starting.
Weather: It will give you the current weather as well as an extended forcast.
ESPN: Direct access to ESPN.
Click365: Internet access to some news, entertainment, amazon.com, yahoo and even Facebook Mobile.
Messaging: Why would you want to send a text message to someone from your remote when you can use your phone? Because you can! Sometimes you just don't feel like getting up to get you phone to text. Well, you can send and receive text messages from your remote control. You can even send someone info about a tv show while looking through the guide directly from the guide. Do you need it? No. Is it kinda cool? Well...yeah
Search: There's a search function on the remote. Let's say you're watching a show and refer to something you've never heard of, you can do a search...and presto instant info on that subject.
I'm liking this remote more and more as I'm typing this review. For a little over $100 dollars, you can't go wrong with this remote. No, it's not a Harmony. It's better. |

"Better than expected" | 2009-03-09 |

| I wasn't expecting a lot from this remote but it definitely impressed. The extra features worked well and the standard remote functions are decent. It is an ideal remote for sports heavy viewing but isn't as mature as other remotes in its class and feels like a first-gen product that could use more polishing. If you mainly watch sports then this is the top choice but home theater types may find better options elsewhere. |

I think that this remote is great. It was easy to set up and had no problems with finding the codes for all my items. I have a Sony HDTV, Onkyo Receiver, Dish network box, XBOX 360, and DVD player. I am able to control all of these with no problem. It took a little trouble shooting to be able to control the XBOX 360 but after trying some different codes I was able to get it to work.
The WiFi support is great, my wife really enjoys the weather forecast.
The buttons do take some getting used to and it does have somewhat of a cheap plastic feel to the buttons.
The activity and Device buttons are nice to be able to change and access what you want quickly, though the home screen defiantly leaves something to be desired. It's more like a cell phone menu, I would rather have had the activities menu as the home screen.
Overall I am very pleased with this remote and happy with the remote experience and would recommend it |
