"Ignore most of the bad reviews -- this player is perfectly fine" | 2008-10-05 |

I am surprised at the negative reviews of the BDP-S350. I purchased mine just last week and have had no problems: quick start times, quiet operation, excellent picture quality.
I've determined that most of the negatives are coming from users who are not properly setting up the player before use. NOTE: The default setting on this unit is "auto," meaning that it will set the picture quality to match the disc. So, if you put in a standard DVD it is going to play it at 480p. Change the picture setting to 1080p for all playback and you are guaranteed automatic upscaling for SD DVDs and 1080p for Blu-Ray discs. And the upscaling on this unit is terrific -- your standard def dics wil look great.
Also, several negatives are coming from people who aren't playing the unit through a 1080p HDTV. Of course the picture isn't going to look better than your SD DVD in that situation. Therefore, don't buy this unit it you don't have a 1080p HDTV -- you are wasting your money. And take the time to properly set up the unit for playback. All will be fine.
I'm giving this player 4 stars because the remote isn't designed as well as it could be. It's not bad, but it's not designed for use in the dark unless you have the layout memorized. |

"This is a great new model" | 2008-10-05 |

| The Sony 350 has been a great product so far. I had a Toshiba HD Player before and the Sony is smaller is size and loads up a disc more quickly. Setup was easy and the controls are easy to navigate. The only complaint I have is that I purchased too soon. This model retailed at $399. Sony recently lowered the retail to $299. I paid $334. I have seen it as low as $268 on Amazon. |

Easy setup, pretty quick startup and loading. Excellent video and audio via HDMI.
The player is smaller than most blu-ray players and looks great on my entertainment center.
The player needs a firmware update if you want to use the BD Live feature. Sony just released the update, and you can download it directly to the player or to your computer (you'll have to burn an update disk. Note: You can't use the disk update method if you use a Mac).

| I bought this product to accompany a Samsung LN40A550 TV, and I have been pleased by the results. I have not even rented a BluRay disc yet, merely using the player to upconvert my collection of DVDs. The player performs this task flawlessly and I get to re-enjoy my old films once again. Easy to set up and use. Delivered by Amazon on time and in good condition. |

| I purchased this Sony BDP-S350 with a new Sony HDTV. It is amazing to watch Blu-ray disc on but more amazing is watching my old regular disc. They look almost as good as the blu-ray disc do. I was amazed. Now my entire collection looks like HD DVD. I am still learning to use the features but so far it is great. |

| We are not exactly cutting edge people when it comes to electronics. In fact, we probably couldn't tell a giga from a hertz. However, we can recognize an exceptional picture on our TV. This blu-ray really makes a difference. Our old dvds are sharper than ever and it makes me wonder if getting blu ray discs is really worth the money. I mean a picture can only be so good. We've had this thing a couple of months and it has worked fine. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a blu ray player. |

After purchasing my HD TV I was unhappy with the picture quality while playing my standard DVDs. After much research, I discovered the need to upgrade my DVD player to a Blu-Ray Player, to increase the resolution. I narrowed my choice to this BD Player and have been thoroughly pleased with the picture quality and clarity for standard DVDs, play back of Blu-Rays is amazing, and it generates no fan noise that comes with PS3's. I had been forewarned of the lag time to play but this is nominal and well worth the wait.

"Great blu-ray player at a good price!" | 2008-09-17 |

Sony gets it right -- at last!!! This Blu-ray player finally realizes the potential that was only hinted at in earlier models: it starts up quickly, loads DVDs like a standard DVD player, and does a much better job of loading blu-ray disks than anything but the Sony Playstation. Menus are simple to navigate and setup is easy. Since my Onkyo pre/pro decodes every codec out there (including DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD), I don't need or want a blu-ray player with 7.1 analog outputs or internal decoding capability. If you need these capabilities, I would opt for the higher-priced Sony BDP-S550 coming out soon at $200 more list. The Sony BDP-S350 will output DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD (as well as all the other audio codecs) over HDMI, so if you have a receiver or pre/pro that can handle all the codecs, you won't need the higher priced player.
The upscaling capability of any blu-ray player is important to anyone who has a substantial DVD collection and no plans to upgrade most of their movies to blu-ray copies (a major cost at today's prices). I use my Onkyo pre/pro to upscale the DVD movies I play in the Sony BDP-S350, but the player does a good job on its own in this regard. After watching several DVD movies using the upscale chip built into the Sony player, I was very impressed with its abilities to generate 1080p output from standard DVDs. While the Reon chip in the Onkyo pre/pro was a little sharper and had fewer artifacts, the Sony player held up quite well by comparison.
All the recent blu-ray players do a good job displaying 1080p images from blu-ray disks, and the Sony BDP-S350 excels in this area (as you would expect from the developers of blu-ray). Check out the professional on-line reviews for in-depth details on this player. I think that if you buy it, you won't be disappointed. |

I have a 52" XBR Bravia. I was disapointed with the limited interaction of the BluRay player and the TV using HDMI. Also the image is very good but it does not pop out at you. I once say my TV connected to the old 300 Bluray by sony and the demo of Pirates was almost 3D. My friend and I watched in ahh. I have not been able to replicate that at home with the same TV but the newer BluRay. |
