This little device has been a life saver, just wish I knew about it before my hard drive crashed. It is very easy to use to back up all data with a few clicks of a mouse. Small size is easy to store.
"Cable is NOT too short"

I love this device, In it's defence, Everyone comments on the cable being too Short. What part of mobile do you not understand. It's short for a reason. True it does not come with a case so I went out and got one. There...Now its protected. and the cable fits in the case without making it to bulky. I use this for exactly for what its intended for. I hook up the cable with the drive right next to the Laptop, Why do I need a long cable, When I back up the desktop I set the drive on top of the tower. When Im done it gets put away back in the case. Now why do you need a long cable or care how easy it is to scratch. It's a great MOBILE device that does what I paid for.

"too much space taken by operating system?"

Even after reformating this drive there are 73gb (with a G) of space used/unavaliable to me. That is almost 25% of the advertised space. I have been unsuccessful in finding out how to shrink this down to a reasonable size. Other than that, its a great device.
"Pay a little extra for the 500GB version"

I'm using this drive for my Apple Mac Time Machine backups and I only have about 75GB spare right now. If you've got a little spare cash, I'd really recommend paying the extra for the 500GB version of this product - see Western Digital My Passport Essential 500 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive WDME5000TN (Midnight Black)
